I decided to get one of the ryders already made in the mass effect archives and decided to keep it as it was and not change anything from what they did. The one I chose had the really high ponytail and I realized that the ponyail default sara ryder has makes most characters less expressive. Anyone else notice this?

Yes, she's much worse. I've made two great custom-versions of Sara that emoted very well, excepting the "Alec is dead?" scene. The first Sara was pretty generic, but looked good in-game. The second I'm really happy with, and I have yet to see clones of her online.
Custom Scott doesn't seem to have all of the strange facial tics, jumpy eyebrows, etc... that Brewis-Ryder has.

I misunderstood, I guess. She's just flat out less expressive than customized protags; and Custom Scott is plagued with fewer tics. I have no idea why this is so, but I don't think it's the hair. |

I meant when you use a cuztomized character and give her the pony tail that the default ryder has that she has a less expressive face. |

I guess it's a good thing I have a strict policy against using defaults except for "failthroughs" where I try to have the worst outcomes for things, which is what I reserved Sheploo for in ME2 (poor bastard never made it out of the Omega 4 relay alive).
Edit: Maybe the ponytail is cursed.
