I have to go through torture testing today....They purposefully induce vertigo ![](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/VhbbJOxdgapOwskrOaaE.png) I am not looking forward to this. Edit: Well, I made it through my torture test without yacking...But it still was hell to go through. The worst part (if you can imagine, try to imagine) they strap you to a chair with VR goggles on...then the make you stare at a TV with several types of moving or flashing images (but you can't move your eyes or head to follow the scolling of the images, you have to stare STRAIGHT ahead for the first few segments. When you're told to, only then you can track the image (a dot or smiley face) as it darts or flashes to various sections or corners of the TV (still keeping your head perfectly still). The scrolling images of a child's flower painting, scrolling from side to side really fast threw me for a bit of a loop, but that wasn't the worse part. Next, they black-out the goggles so you're in complete blackness- I lost all sense of direction, spatial relation etc; very disconcerting. They incline the chair and flush water in your ears one at a time. First Right, then left......First Cold water in each ear, separately, then again with warm water......They do each ear for 2 minutes, and while still inclined and in pitch black (Vertigo has now begun to set-in) you are supposed to go through the alphabet A to Z, then Z to A...reciting all the words you can think of for each letter. Then they make you watch the TV again while trying to do basic mental math (5+5+2+8-4) *All the while, vertigo is throwing me every which way but loose* (and she wants to do go back to Elementary School and do mental math, when Math was never my strongest subject). They do this 2x separately for each ear. And let me tell you.....While effectively blinded in pitch black and experiencing intense vertigo....It is damn near impossible to think of even simple words like "Apple" or "Bat", let alone having to remember the alpha sequence forwards....Forget about doing it backwards! And the math?! My brain was like "F*** That!" That process repeated for 75 minutes. The other two tests that took up the remaining time of the total 2 hours weren't as bad, but I still didn't like any of it. Having your ears flushed with too warm and too cold water is pure hell. I utterly hate that. I have only vomited once, but dam, the vertigo and nausea. (No I don't have Meniere's, but I once had a nerve virus. Rumors say it's basically uncurable. Some people want to tell me that if I've had it once, it will re-emerge. But it was many years ago and scarily ridiculous quantities of cortisone remove symptoms.) The rest sounds like stuff they sell tickets to. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/RebJidSPcxyF0U0Rr0uW.png) (No offense intended, I sympathize with your suffering.) (... actually, just writing this post and remembering, have me feeling nausea... ![](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/VhbbJOxdgapOwskrOaaE.png) )

In 2023 I saved nearly $121 in groceries when buying the store brand. Today I went to the grocery store. If things continue the way they are, I will surpass 2023 numbers by at least $25. excellent.

Some things it makes no difference at all and you get great value, the odd thing or other however is just awful compared to some brand names.
Some things I will learn to always buy the generic store brand and save a lot and others I regret doing so.
(One example from years past was that I used to like V8 juice and i tried a large generic 'vegetable cocktail' juice that was supposed to be the same and it was utterly horrible.)

In Australia we have to be careful of generic brands as they are either really cheap foreign brands whose items are "dumped" here or heavily discounted domestic brands that are sending our farmers to the wall. We only have two very dominant Domestic supermarkets that are happy to screw anyone than they can over and are being found out to have been price gouging to the max. during a cost-of-living crisis. Suddenly prices have been falling, wonder why????
So sometimes we buy the "named" brands to keep stuff made here.

Q-tips.
The non-brand cotton swabs are terrible, they're flimsy and bend too much. Q-tips are stiff and do their job.

My son who often has to spend weeks on Army Ration packs has said he'd prefer those over generic dry pasta. We also only buy deli type stuff from the Delicatessen near us as we have had some absolutely terrible stuff from the supermarkets and have over the years observed some very poor hygiene habits. And only the best Ice Cream as our daughter will settle for nothing else to the point she often buys her own and she's a scrooge. One other rule is not to buy meat from Aldi, it may just be the store near us, but we have had so many issues with it.

I hear you though about your feelings/thoughts on Vertigo, nausea.... Cause that's how I feel. The worst, the absolute worst is when I'm on the golf course trying to hit a ball! And purely by luck (and muscle memory)....I have managed to hit the ball long and straight (over 250), but I think it was more luck because I was often seeing six of everything and I could barely stand. While no offense was taken...."the rest" you refer to is done because eye-tracking is a key part of the equilbruim/balannce system (which is in your ears)....When you have Vertigo, your eyes have a difficult time focusing straight....they will bounce, drift or shift sharply to one side or the other (no intent of the Person, it just happens)....so the bit about watching TV stuff was all about eye-tracking as an indication for balance orogan issues. But I am very up-front with anyone I play with that if *this* should happen....please, run me over with the golf cart and put me out of my misery. Now that you mention it, they spent some time with my eyes too, but I don't think I did badly at it. They only only watched it from the outside though, because I now remember that the headpiece didn't work. Instead, since I couldn't stand up, they did a CAT-scan to see if I had a brain tumor. When that too was negative they decided they would guess at a nerve virus and fed me colossal amounts of cortisone. I was scared. 10 pills at once. But two hours later I subjectively felt better than I could remember I ever had, so they decided that was it. Mystery solved. 10 pills 4 times a day, 40 per day, the first days, and then gradually reduced. I do hope it never comes back though. They did warn me it could, but it's many, many years now, so I hope it won't. The circumstances was I had participated in a relief operation, and had worn wet clothes for most of a day. Dirty water. I apparently had a small prick or chafe on my stomach, and that got infected. A nurse did some ineffective treatment and bandage, and a day later I woke with a foot wide, red, infected swelling. Emergency penicillin ordered by a rather nervous doctor who feared I might go into sepsis at any moment. I survived the first day and got better, but the penicillin messed up my stomach big time. About five or six days later this nerve virus struck. At first I though it might be some reaction against the penicillin, but no one believed that. So either I was infected by the virus at the same time as the bacteria infection, or because my stomach immune system was out of order.

Had new carpet installed a frenzied day yesterday moving stuff out of the rooms being done and the carpet installed this morning and a frenzy of getting everything back in place.
Of course, had to move my PC and desk etc. and all worked except the damn LMB would not work on my mouse????? Using a crappy old dinosaur mouse but it works.
Ordered a new Razer Deathadder same as the one that malfunctioned, coming tomorrow. Pray it doesn't have an issue because it is the same one. Hoping it recognises it as a completely new device.

I stopped buying Razer as I noticed the LMB wore out on them frequently. Conspicuously so, in fact.
I liked the one with 12 thumb buttons, but it lasted something like four months. And the previous ones I'd had only lasted 6-8 months-ish. (I was playing a lot of WoW pvp/raids back then.)
Now I buy significantly cheaper mice with fewer buttons but they last a couple years at minimum. I like smaller mice now too. As light as possible.

This one lasted years it was just the disconnection of the pc etc. to install the new carpet that seemed to do it. Not sure if cleaning it moving it etc did it.

Well my original Xbox died a dews days ago (at least I have an Xbox 360 to play the original Xbox copies of Halo CE & Halo 2).
And now I have a fever of 101.6. I'll have to sleep, see if that fixes anything.😞

Well my original Xbox died a dews days ago (at least I have an Xbox 360 to play the original Xbox copies of Halo CE & Halo 2). And now I have a fever of 101.6. I'll have to sleep, see if that fixes anything.😞 I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you are feeling better. I got a second hand DVD set of Star Trek Enterprise (complete), which a friend gave to me. However, not all disks worked. So I bought a new Blu Ray player/writer combo and a new Blu Ray version of the complete Enterprise. And now I am addicted and bought the complete The Next Generation and Voyager. I couldn't get these on Blu Ray at my local e-store, so Voyager is still on DVD and I found a Blu Ray version of TNG on the Dutch Amazon. Amazon is not popular here, so it is the first time ever that I bought something from them. It's probably the last time too, because the service of my local e-store is great. VLC always worked great with DVDs, but it is a pain to find out how to make it work with Blu Ray. I finally got it to work by downloading two files from two different sites and copy them by hand to two different folders. Why on earth is it so hard to play optical disks in Windows 11 is a mystery to me. I also bought external disk drive cases to house the HDDs and SSDs from my old desktop. The SSDs are in RAID 0 and the case supports that, but I doubt it will work, because the drives used Intel software and my current machine is AMD based. It's not important, though, because the SSDs only contained the OS and software, but no data. The cases arrive next week.

Have fun with ENT, watched it as it was airing. I found s1-2 alright but nothing special. Then I loved the very divisive third season, really fun. Less episodic in nature. Season 4 has some interesting plotlines. I'll be curious to hear what you think of the very last episode. Lots of good worldbuilding throughout that series. Looooots of ups and downs. Definitely Berman Era in there too; Decon gel T'Poledancer made me feel naughty things.
Don't forget DS9! My personal favourite Star Trek. (Albeit Strange New Worlds is giving it a run for its money.) Your life won't be complete until you've experienced Garak the simple tailor.

(Albeit Strange New Worlds is giving it a run for its money.) Your life won't be complete until you've experienced Garak the simple tailor. I enjoyed Enterprise for the most part. It's a fun series. I had to get used to the characters, but Archer grew on me. I liked the subtle humor of T'Pol. On the other hand I am not a fan of Trip and Reed annoyed me more than once. The blue skins remind me of Star Wars too much, though. Brrr. The Vulcans trying to hold back humanity was an annoying theme. It's fun for a couple of episodes, but there were too many of those. The last episode, which was a hybrid between two series, was fun as well. I could not find a good version of DS9, but first I am going to watch TNG and Voyager. Note that I am familiar with Star Trek already, but I quit watching TV in the 90s or so. That is why I like having the series on disk. I couldn't stand commercials. I don't even have a TV and I don't want one. I have a nice monitor and I don't use a desk for my computer. Instead I have a low table and I sit on a cozy carpet on the floor. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/uYQYVMAupPAfTXFFwWlB.png)

The Number of The One is 22. And a wise man will know her Name.
(and if she doesn't get into the Olympics, the story will become interesting)

So you are saying I am not wise? I am insulted. You are banned! Oops. Sorry. Wrong thread. ![](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/qUctXNjCPgwPaLsZeKry.png)

Cold windy and ugly outside and my home town football team just 100% gagged away a game they were in total control of in the 4th quarter. I am enraged.

She's a generational talent. If you watch her play, you get a feeling that what you see is supernatural. When Iowa won over Michigan, in NCAA, she was responsible for 75 points (49p + 13A) of the 106 - 89 final score. She has higher personal stats than any other basketball player ever, man or woman. Not in the WNBA mind you, but she has only played 12 games in WNBA. Even so, she has already wiped all the rookie records, and she has better stats than 14 of the 16 women on the Olympic candidates list she is not on. It doesn't matter that she's a rookie in WNBA, she's still a dominating figure. This while playing for some of what would be the worst teams (without her), and being knocked around more than I think any other player have been. WNBA have always failed to draw a crowd, ...until now. Her team Indiana Fever sells out the arena, despite being the second worst team in the league. The other teams still don't.

Oh I know who Caitlin Clark is my daughter is a huge fan (and we are Baseball not Basketball players/fans) and whenever we can find a game on the TV in Australia she watches. I love the video, we also have some really poor administration of Womens sports in Australia in particular Womens Basketball and Netball which has meant they have no sponsors and are broke as they have wasted so much money but not on the players. This when the money was specifically given with a written caveat it was for the players pay, travel etc. Why do you think it was done?
