I go for a walk 4-5 times a week for about 5-6 kilometers each time - but today the weather was particularly beautiful - so I walked for 16.5 kilometers in 4 hours. It was so relaxing plus it feels reassuring to know I can cover a lot of ground quickly and completely on my own with no help, no food nor water, while not being particularly lightweight with my 106kg.

About my longest this summer was probably 7 or 8. 5-7 kilometers is about my max relaxing walk distance, its the perfect length for a walk after work, any more and it gets too time consuming and I have to hurry up which defeats the purpose of it being a tool for relaxation and clearing my mind.- But ~15 kilometers is a great distance for weekends when walking for 3 hours is easily doable time-wise and I'm not trashed from work. Also, I don't walk the day I do deadlifts for obvious reasons.

So this morning I was walking to 2 ytear old Golden Retriever (who loves everybody and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He does not know what it is or how to fight back and defend himself) and he ran towards a dog that we have met three times before......And 2 seconds later that other dog-- there was some growling, but it wasn't just the 'stay away from me, I'm warning you' kinda of growl.....This other dog bit my golden around the neck and dragged him to the ground. My Golden immediately starts yelping and desperately trying to pull himself away, but this other dog just pinned him to the ground and pulled him by the neck in the opposite direction using his weight advantage. (He had to weigh at least 160....as much as I do! And my golden is only 75 pounds at best.) Immediately I screamed my headoff like Obi-wan after witnessing Maul kill Qui-Gon and I get down on the ground and I'm pulling the other dog off mine....I'm frantically pushing/pulling, even kicking the other dog in the chest to get him off. The other guy is just standing there holding the leash!
Finally, I'm able to put myself between this a$$hole dog and my golden cowered against me, shaking and wimpering.... Actually let me hug him, which normally he doesn't like. I was concerned about his neck so I'm frantically checking his neck all over through really super thick fur, and I turn back to the guy and I say "what the #&^*%% is wrong with you?! Just standing there holding the leash while your asshole dog tries to kill mine! And what the fuck is wrong with your dog? He's met my dog three times before and they know each other. Even you know me, we've met here on several occasions-- and you just stand there doing nothing! I'll be taking my dog the vet's as soon as I am able and when I get the bill, you're damn sure gonna pay for it. In fact, give me your contact information. I want your information so I can send you the bill, and I may even report your dog to Animal COntrol, because this was an unprovoked attack and you did nothing to stop it."
But I didn't have my cellphone on me at the time so he wouldn't give me his info, only the promise to be here in the park every day at this sime time and should I have a vet bill, to give it to him and he would gladly pay it. But his only other response was "I don't know why he did that, he's never done that before. I don't know what the hell got into him that he would attack like that."
Being a holiday my Vet is closed so it will be a week or so before I can take him in....But I'm gonna give that guy the bill when next I see him as well as a piece of my mind. I'm still upset and it was three hours ago. My dog seems fine though I'm concerned about some minor scrapes on his upper lips.
Seriously though, my golden retriever is so extremely social and loving, he wants to see everybody (people and dogs-- and he loves little kids!) He truly doesn't know how to fight back or how to defend himself and he's so friendly that he doesn't understand why other dogs attack him. That old saying he's "a lover, not a fighter" is so true.
I was so angry, upset, shocked and worried....I was sure this giant thing was going to kill my dog the way he would grip his neck and drag him keeping him pinned to the ground.....I instantly got down on my hands and knees and starting puling/pushing, even kicking this beastly thing in the chest....But I was so upset and worried I actually started to cry....Then I just got angry and started yelling at the owner.

When I had dogs I got to the point of not going to dog parks anymore.

If the attacking dog has a collar, put your hand inside, lift him hard enough, that his front paws would be in the air (if his bite doesn't hold on to something heavy) and then twist your hand. Keep in mind that if you do this longer than a few seconds, or too hard, that dog might die. The dog should be pacified pretty much immediately. If not, something is wrong, probably there is something odd about the collar. If it's life and death, like a Rottweiler and a small child, keep trying, never mind if the dog dies. If not, abandon the twisting attempt (but of course hold on to the collar and keep lifting, both hands if you need to). Whatever you try, always try lifting or partially lifting the dog. Like if you try pulling the dog away from behind, grab its hind legs and lift as you pull. If it tries to get at you, step sideways while keep lifting. If it doesn't calm down, try get someone else to lift him also by the neck. If it's a Pitbull it will take time before it releases its bite. Lift it by the neck as much as possible and get at least its front paws in the air. If there's no collar, grab the skin around the neck. Someone else may have to help and lift the other dog that its jaws have locked on. The front paws must be off the ground. It's essential that it doesn't get any traction for its front paws. But by all means, lift it entirely if it's possible. Lift. Then just hold and wait patiently until the Pitbull releases its bite. Put the dog down on the ground, lying, not on its feet, and hold it down by its neck until it calms down. Naturally, if the dog is big, and you are not, it might be difficult for you, but you have the advantage of height. Never do any afraid screaming. If you must say anything, calm angry commands, including at the other dog owner.

Thanks for the input Hieronymous, I guess there's a million things I could have done or should have done....but it was such a shock, I've never had any of my Goldens be attacked by another dog like that, and it was so shocking to me and my dog that we (he and I, my dog) just reacted. I didn't think about it, I just reacted.
Thankfully, though shaken...my dog wasn't physically hurt from what I could see. Still, I'm going to give that guy my next vet bill as well as some really dirty looks when next I see him.

I sorted through old documents and magazines, with the purpose of clearing up shelf space.
I found some interesting things. I found drafts to old efforts of writing of mine. And I was kinda surprised, because they were much better than I thought/remembered them to be. In the haste of it, I still fed one short SF story too many to the shredder. I regret it a bit, because I think it contained a number of good ideas. I kept another, a poetic prologue to a Fantasy story about a soldier who becomes the sole survivor of the losing army after the final battle of a great war. Needs some polishing, but I might use that one day.
I also found some esteemed, old Photography magazines from the age of film and darkrooms. They surprised me in a couple of ways. One was that I thought most of the pictures were pretty bad. Of course many things were much more difficult to shoot with film and manual cameras. They might have been impressed by things which are no longer impressive. Also, I'm not sure all the content would be PC today. It seems in those old days, amateur photographers often photographed children, hopefully mostly their own, when they were naked, like playing on the beach, and then sent in the images to photo magazines to be published. If that was done to me when I was a kid, I would definitely have been upset. I thrashed them and can no longer be accused of possessing "child pornography". (I actually trashed all the old photo magazines, because there was not really anything of interest any longer. I'll never go back to chemicals.)
And they also didn't hesitate to publish old Nazi propaganda photography. I don't think there is anything wrong with that, but I also know that such images has been censored by social media (governed by SJW-fascists) in our twisted days, and uploaders/publishers banned.

Today I rode my bicycle for the first time in 4+ years, due to health issues I focused on weight lifting only. I had to basically resurrect my old racing bike, it was standing in a barn for all those years, had to clean and lubricate it, tightened all the bolts and screws, pumped up the tires, recalibrated the brakes, checked all the bearings. Not good as new, some minor damage here and there, but definitely usable. Also the bike has like 7500km mileage already. I was afraid that I'd be horribly out of shape but turns out I'm only a little out of shape, I'm like 80% right now. Made the mistake to choose a 20km long course full of very challenging uphill sections (basically a mountain course) as my first ride, which I mastered with only a couple 1-2 minute breaks, only once I felt like puking - but now I'm utterly spent. Oh well, still a successful day for me.

I finally enrolled in a driving school to get my driver's license. Later than most folks . And. tbh, I don't think I would get my driver's license if I didn't have to drive my dad around, as, due to illness, he can't drive anymore, and he has many doc appointments. I am adamant I am going to be a bad driver lmao. And I am going to be your typical grandma (even if I am much younger) who drives very, veery slow, gripping the stir wheel very firmly. I am kind of excited about getting my driver's license, tho. Hope I don't screw it up!

I'm not sure I want my license. I've gone so many years without it, and there are so many insane and poor driver on the road-- I don't want to risk adding to or being involved in an accident. Plus, public transit is sooo much cheaper! A pain in the ass, yes, especially in pouring rain or freezing temperatures spent waiting on a bus that may never show up.....Or may be late, or even have been early....But at this stage after 25 years without a license, I've gotten accustomed to not having one.
That, and with my Meniere's and my fluctating hearing loss, not to mention a depth-perception and visual processsing/spatial awareness deficit...I never know when an episode is going to hit me. I would hate to be driving and have one happen.... because I could get into or cause an accident....and if that happened I would feel truly horrible. So I think I'm better off without my license.

I'm starting to get paranoid. Couple days ago I felled a tree in my garden and today I finally had the time to start splitting the wood with my axe. After an hour or so I made a break and checked my phone....and I instantly got tons of video suggestions about how to split wood, videos about people cutting wood with chainsaws etc. Dozens of super specific videos.
I didn't google that shit ever, I don't have that Alexa spy toy, I didn't even have that phone in my pocket when I was splitting logs and I didn't call anyone and mentioned splitting logs.
I believe in coincidences but come on now....
And no, this is not the first time something like this happened to me.

I used to have "Google is Satan" in my signature. Dunno why I removed it. Certainly didn't change my mind. Maybe I wanted a more affable image? Anyway, I carry a Windows phone that is like 10 years old or something like that.

Did you check the spark plug? Mine gets really sooty quickly, especially when the saw runs at low RPM when the blade gets near-stuck. Just scrub it with a bronze brush and then its good to go. But I can also recommend felling a tree with an axe. I did so a couple years ago because my chainsaw needed a new blade. It feels pretty cool to cut down a big tree with pure muscle power and a simple tool.

Didn't get anything satisfying done today. Got involved in discussions and debate for most hours. And ate too much, without getting wine or beer to drink. And I should have gone back to my old job one day this week. I had promised them that. Have to do it next week instead. Should be fun, but interferes with other plans. Have to sleep now, if I can with all this food in my stomach.

Yeah, I always check the spark plug first. Didn't look too bad and plenty of spark. 2-strokes always get sooty, and it's a good thing, because you want it to run tad rich. I checked the carb and it was dry, so it's a fuel issue. Needle seemed to be moving, so the metering diaphragm is the likely culprit. But I can also recommend felling a tree with an axe. Easy for you to say. I don't have the physique for that; I need engines, motors and machines. My father had a massive Canadian double-bit axe. That was the manliest axe I've ever seen, sadly it was stolen years back.

It's been a bad day. Interminable waiting at the doctor's office and I just do not like the nurse-practitioner. She's bossy in a passive-aggressive way. She'd be great as a kindergarten teacher. I Lost my parking ticket, but the parking attendant was just lovely, so it all got sorted. Went to pick up lunch at a drive-through and got rear ended by 'Karen's old brother. Not all little old men are nice or have manners. On a lighter note, I've been expecting three packages from Europe. The Royal Mail one was ordered first and is showing only as being 'in transit'. The DHL package is running late, but every stop it has taken is meticulously shown on the tracking website. Lastly the FedEx one is shown as being undeliverable, but was in fact delivered an hour ago. #nosuprises

Much better day today. A very nice young man stopped by to raise money and support for a political cause. His script assumed that I was angry about something. When I assured him I wasn't, he asked 'Not even a little peeved?' I told him I wasn't even miffed. He laughed. And then asked why I wasn't. I told him I knew a song. He asked "What song?" I started singing " Always Look On the Bright Side of Life". He chuckled and joined in. We had a moment. He walked away happy, but without my money or my signature.

Taking a long walk today, one of my shoes broke when I was an hour from home. I had to shuffle my right foot for a couple of miles, which was quite annoying and even a bit painful towards the end..
Otherwise, the day was great I suppose.
