though seeing as I play more female Hawke then male, Fenris is my absolute favorite

I headcanon it anyway . same here 
'sides, I like the idea of them having a very private relationship (my Warden + Nate I mean) so not a lot of people know about it, except for my Warden's inner circle
(and a few other select people, like Leliana...'cause let's face it, she's the type who'd know a lot about people's private affairs, especially since becoming the Left Hand and Inquisition's spymaster)
cue the "Finding Nathaniel" DA2 quest with Anders along and Nate accidentally slipping up with saying something like "my wife is going to kill me"  and then Anders would be all "wait...wife? Since when are you married? For that matter...who are you married too?!"  and since I always head canon that the Hero is along for the quest as well I like to pretend Anders being shocked and/or confused to learn his old commander is married to Nathaniel 
it also makes the letter the Warden writes to the Inquisitor better for me in that regard, since if you romanced someone they mention that romance in the letter but my Warden being the private person she is, wouldn't write about her love life to a complete stranger (however reputable that stranger might be)

Also, as a bit of an older and more experienced leader, he'd be wary of the impropriety of the relationship and be more cognizant of how it can affect his decision-making. Honestly? I like her. I would also think it would be extremely amusing to see her struggling with that.  She does quite a bit already, given how Nathaniel hits on her at times. Besides, she's one of the two Dalish elves we had as party members and I like how she gets better. Yeah, some people would argue that she goes better to fast for someone whose core trait those people claim is her racism, but at least, she does improve (Unlike Sera  I got the impression that Sera always rotates back to her "icky elfyness" schtick).

I wouldn't have minded romancing her either on one of my male Wardens  I think my Dalish Warden would've liked her...since I would've shipped him with Velanna if Morrigan hadn't seduced him (he was with Leliana at first)
as for why she gets better so fast...time frame after all, Fenris gets better in a span of 7 years regarding his hate of magic and mages (yes yes some would argue he keeps "harping" one how he hates magic and mages, not the case) if Awakening spanned a longer time period she'd gotten better at a different pace

Time limits? Yes, the best explanation for DAA, as, LadyofNemesis, has also mentioned. Though for such person as Velanna to eradicate such core "racism" from her mind, no need so much time and no need to arure about time at all. Yes, "racism" topic is difficult, though have never thought that there is something odd about her "fast" changes. People are different and Velanna is not stupid to understand such things (with out help as usual). Good to know there are even argures about it. Rather vague answer. According to your posr you like her "racism" changes. What about other things? That she differs from others in many things is obvious. I mean not her appearance (do not care about that crap), but manner of speaking, traits of character, behavior in general, her explanations about"what to do in this or thar quest", her reactions? It matters nothing in comparison with "racism changes"? Or just "too much writing"? Aye. Thank you. |

Isabela. the banter between her and the others are the best. Merrill. I like that this one can be different depending on if you go friendly or rival. Fenris. I don't like his anti-mage and constantly whining and brooding. Anders. He's more trouble than he's worth. Sebastian. Boring, he might've been a great romance if he wasn't a DLC character like Shale, (as well Kasumi, Zaeed, and Javik from the MET). Tallis is fun to flirt with and maybe she's a good one night stand or very brief fling.
To answer the question: for me it's a tie between Isabela and Merrill.

My favorite is Merrill's; she's adorable, and a lot more capable and clever than people give her credit for. The friendship romance, anyway. While I agree that having significant differences between the two is pretty neat writing-wise, the main things with the rivalry version feel unpleasantly patronizing at best and I can't really bring myself to actually do that. I did like Isabela's as well, but I guess I tend to go for a more soft and sweet kind of romance most of the time. The others just don't work for me because I'm too gay for them. I did try Anders' once out of plot interest, and it is an interesting one plot-wise, but doing that is one of the things that told me that I just don't really have any interest in fictional romance involving men. One other remark, which also has spoilers for a completely different game (Fire Emblem: Three Houses): Looking at a couple of Bioware romances like Anders' made me think that I thought going into that kind of thing where the LI has a big possible-betrayal plot twist would be interesting to experience and I wished that it happened with a bi or lesbian woman LI sometime so that I'd actually do it on a first playthrough. I certainly didn't expect a first-party Nintendo game to deliver on that one. |
