With tomorrow seeing the lifting of the embargo on hands-on previews, hopefully people here are willing to temper themselves on what general sentiments turn out to be (good or bad).
Everyone knows that people who give out positive reviews are obviously paid shills.
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah Yeah I'm not sure where "DAI was a commercial failure" came from... Its over 12 million at this point. MASIVELY oversold the internal EA projections ... Oh yeah and was GotY in 2014.
Amazing how people actually downplay the impact DA:I had for Bioware.
Hyper realism is so boring now and days, what's wrong with exaggerating things a little? It's fiction, there's nothing wrong with having a little fun. Personally, I'm getting a little tired of the Sony style hyperrealstic aesthetic.
WB seems to confirm that a sequel is in the works in this quote from a conference:
“Obviously, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road. So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here.”
BioWare is in a really weird place perception wise.
There's a lot of fans who want to see a conclusion to the Solas/Inquisitor arc, and others who want their Dragon Age fix. Then you have others, like helios969 , who just want the game out so the studio can move onto the next Mass Effect project.
Underlying all of this is the current climate of cynical gaming channels that, for a lot of online gaming viewers, will probably do a lot of negativity farming off of the game. That's not to say some of it isn't warranted (BioWare is coming off of two maligned games), and there are plenty of subject takeaways a person can have about not liking some of the gameplay/visual changes.
One thing is for sure though: You better believe a good number of people will take the smallest infraction of the game, and turn it into the biggest scandal in gaming. We already saw this with Andromeda, and I don't see it stopping with Veilgaurd. I tend to think there's some fostered sentiments in some parts of the gaming community that BioWare owes its audience nothing less than perfection in nearly all of its faculties. Clearly, that wont be the case, but for many who take on the opinions of the content creators they watch, that will probably shape their expectations to some degree.
Of course, that won't be everyone, and major review sites will likely do a lot in shaping the rhetoric around whether the 10 year wait was worth it. I think there's some chance the game will do well enough. But, as others have stated here, its hard to know what sales estimates EA will impose on the game.
Someone can correct me on this, as I might be misremembering. I think in Jason Schreier's Dragon Age article (on the pivot from Live Service to Singleplayer), Jason made mention of how EA was "zeroing the budget" for BioWare. So, effectively, they started from scratch with EA in terms of the sales expectations vs actual development time. I could be wrong though.
The Problem Bioware have is 1 mediocre game and 1 bad game (that they cut instaed on reparing it).
MEA isn't Biowares problem DA2 was understand and the next game was better.
But with Anthem, players have lost their faith in Bioware. If they would have make a CP2077 or no mans sky, than we would sit in a better spot.
And i agree today the haters are really strong. Even if i can't understand why you would put so much enery hating something instaed of finding something you would love to support.
If Bioware made a Cyberpunk or No Man's Sky on their release days, that would've killed the company.

I know it's probably going to be controversial to say but let's address the Darkspawn in the room. There are those in the online gaming sphere who see Dragon Age as a woke mess created by woke writers and developers who want the game to appeal to the "modern audience" that they are insistent does not exist or are in so few in number. They'll use any perceived flaw that the game has in order to bludgeon Dragon Age as evidence that there is a woke rot in Bioware and that the only way to crush it is to see it fail. "Go woke, go broke" as they say never mind there has been plenty of "woke" games that are very successful in the past.
Anne-Marie - Collector of Words and Pinecones @lemon_Cookie Please if you know the animator for the shot, can you tell them I love love love what they did. It looks crisp and the hits are super impactful. One of the best looking shot I've seen for the game so far. #bioware #veilguardspoilers
Michael Gamble @gamblemike Scenes are usually crafted by many animators. All the way from conception to finish & polish. All handing off different iterations and many focusing on different things.
I have no idea what good is tbh...and frankly ACS is probably not a good benchmark at this point given the hate it's received and the lack of respect Ubisoft has shown toward Japanese history and culture. But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I want DAV to succeed if for no other reason to get the next ME game.
Online communities have disliked most of the recent AC games, they still sell very well. (I’ve always been indifferent to the series and have no opinion.) Same with COD. Most people aren’t all that vocal about their tastes.
But you’re right, who knows. Even if it sells well it might not be enough compared to juggernauts like FIFA.
People forget that online communities are a vocal minority. Remember the whole Hogwarts' Legacy boycott where people were harassing streamers and telling people not to buy the game. Only for the game to outsell COD last year? Don't know if DA:V will sell well (though I think it will), but I think it's important to put some of the online pushback against games like Dragon Age and Assassin's Creed into context.
I like the Lord of Fortune. It feels nice to be a random adventurer who just happened to be smack dabbed in the middle of a major conflict. It'll also be an excuse for Rook to be quippy like Sarcastic Hawke given the nature of the organization. XD
Yes. I used the same face preset as "Tav" the basic human male that both fans and devs make fun of all the time lmao. Ya know. The one who looks like Rugan.
The more I play BG3, I can't help but notice all the characters who share a face with some other NPCs. It's a Forgotten Realms version of Uncanny Valley. From what I've gathered, Veilguard seems to be avoiding that issue.
Impossible, only Bioware has bad facial expressions.
