It wasn't the "fetch" quests, or the fact that the Elder One was a villain more like one of an 80s cartoon show. It was the real time element for the War Table operations, I don't mind the ones that were 10 minutes or the ones that even that took an hour because I could do a quest or chat with the companions. I'm talking about the ones that took over 3 hours. I mean what the fuck?! Like contacting the HoF which takes about 12-16 hours and all you get is a belt and a letter. No Blood Dragon Armor, no Starfang, no cutscene. Just a worthless belt and a letter? I hope that BioWare doesn't do that again in ME:A. Because I'm running out of long movies that I like.

The first time I played DAI, I didn't know about the computer clock hack. I straight up just didn't do all the War Table Missions. I was so impatient for the end of the game, I started the mission to break Samson's magic armor...then said screw it, and went to the Arbor Wilds without it. Second time I played, computer clock hack all the way. But now there is even a mod to auto complete them. I don't plan on playing ME:A, but I think timed War Table Missions were frustrating, and now a mild annoyance due to hack/mods. They should have let you use the ridiculous abundance of "Power" in the game to complete them. Then one would have a reason to close all the rifts outside of a need for completionism.

When I first found out that these missions were timed for hours. I thought that this was Bioware's attempt to force me to take a break from gaming and go outside.

Me either. I prioritized what I wanted to do and set the long ones up when I was done for the night and going to sleep. I never found them to be a particularly big inconvenience. I will say though, I did download the No War Table Waiting mod for my recent playthrough, because I figure after 500+ hours, I've paid my dues and can excuse a few quality of life tweaks.

LMAO! 80s cartoon. Oh man, that is good."Venatori, Roll Out!"
Be nice if they allowed us to actually DO some of those War Table missions. There are quite a few that sound far more interesting then those you can do in the game. Instead of doing this....
"Oh BTW your elf clan is in trouble. Sorry you cannot go there to help." (an hour later....)
"Oh your clan is all dead, but here have this shitty belt as a reward. Have a nice day."
Shakes head)
But on the bright side you can go to the Hinterlands to take a druffalo back to her pen (since the farmer left the gate open. And don't worry later you'll see a piss poor excuse of an Elf clan in the DA universe who needs you to escort a Halla back to their "camp."
Good Times.

I actually didn't mind it much. But if I had to complain about it, I would complain about how forgettable and unacknowledged the operations are. No one actually acknowledge anything those operations do, even if it's something dire like Clan Lavellan dying out or a relations between nobles erupting into violent conflict.
It could be remedied easily enough with brief voice over detailing the mission, or at least ambient Skyhold dialogue based on the outcome, but as it is it's just....there.

Bioware: Hmm, how can we make this game longer without doing to much work. Lets see, we made plenty of pointless fetch quests. We made 2 collect this item quest here. We forced the player to have to pick up elfroot. Oh, I know lets make descriptions of interesting quests that the player can't do, but send one of their advisers to do. Also, we'll make it to where you have to wait hours for it completed. Not only will make the game feel longer, but it'll drive the completionist mad! *Cackles evilly*

It was mildly annoying, but my solution was to activate long war table operations at the end of a gaming session, so that they would be done (most of the time) when I started the next session. So I didn't miss any operations even though the sum total of required time was clearly designed to fit a longer game. The annoying part was that I had to use real-world considerations to time my war table missions.

It was also a real drag if, like me, you tend to use the same advisor for a lot of the missions. I normally prefer to use Josephine for the nobility things. When there are several active at once I have to wait for quite a while since she will be locked down with a single mission for those 1-3 hours or however long it is.

As Nightscrawl said it's a pain if you use the same advisor most of the time. But I do like how it spaces out the missions and makes it feel as if the IQ is slowly gaining power. It'd be odd if you could do them all at once when you got to Skyhold, so the waiting has some roleplay value don't you think?

However, the war table is slower than the rest of the game, which does not have real passage of time in the game world. Trekking off to the Western Approach should take a couple of weeks just to get there on horseback, then you factor in the camping and doing stuff while there, and then a couple of weeks to get back, and before you know it you've been gone over a month. Whatever chatting up of the nobility Josephine had to do in that time should be over by then, but it isn't because my trip only took me a couple of hours of real-world time, and the operation lasts four hours.

Perhaps the best answer would have been to link their completion with hours played, so that once in a while a whole new set of missions open up as the old ones complete...

Yeah, that's just cruel. All in all, War Table Missions look like a project which was abandoned half-way through - some could actually remain the way they are, but other, such as the infamous "helping" Clan Lavellan, just beg for more development and Inky's personal involvement.

And even then, it was never the battles I watched for, it was the philosophical debates of how our culture interacts with other cultures. I do plan to try again by skipping to 3and playing backwards. Someday, when I'm not playing a Dragon Age Game as I have been for the last 7 months straight.
