So was SWTOR. Still most people played the campaign from the start to the ending solo and only grouped for content that required grouping (flashpoints and operations).
The ability to solo SWTOR was greatly enhanced by update 4.0. This single-player ability was lauded by most people because before it was released developers said this would be KOTOR 3,4,5 etc rolled into one. KOTOR was a solo single player game so that update brought the game more in line with that vision. Nothing about what we've heard from Anthem shows it will follow this same path, and instead they are increasingly turning their back on single player. You are presenting a false equivalence.

The story is straight up single player, and they did design the game to be played either alone or with friends. You can go on missions solo, even freeplay solo. All Bioware is saying is that they want to encourage players to try playing with friends, so playing alone will be possible but a bit harder. No, you can play it single player but it was designed for co-op. Really, a lot of the experience was designed around a more casual grouping experience. In that case, you’re coming together and breaking apart more and it’s a mixture. -Darrah Which is what people were begging that BioWare make a game around for years. "I wanna play with my friends", "it would be easy to make", etc, etc, etc. They always said designing a game around co-op is different then single player.

Now that is not true. 4.0 was Knights of the Fallen Empire early acess. What they did was speed up leveling up so that people would be able to acess the elder game content Bioware was releasing faster and making some of the older FP acessible to two players team or player + companion (probably because player population of tanks and healers characters were already reducing). It was completely possible to easily finish the whole story campaign alone long before that update was released. I know because i did finsih both Jedi and Sith stories long before that.
All the talk about experience the game with friends/other people while still being possible to play it alone (they already mentioned difficulty scale to the group size), and elder game content is pretty much what Bioware did with Star Wars TOR.

I did for the Mass Effect games there were plenty of people claiming how much they would love if a friend could play one of the other characters in our party. The response I saw was that the game would have to be designed around a co-op experience just like how BioWare once said they have to design everything around a voiced versus silenced protagonist.

So the previously bitter/skeptical remain bitter/skeptical...shocker
I'm looking forward to the game...my son and I and some friends are ready to play this thing when it comes out.
Others should just read reviewz, check out a twitch stream or two, and decide from there...
This is not hard

If you look at the general advice when people ask whether TOR is possible to play solo, you'll find the general answer is that "yes, it's very possible since 4.0." What I'm saying is that before 4.0, most people did not solo.

I played since the time of the Rise of the Hutt Cartel (2.0) and i can say people did not make a habit of grouping to complete the campaign, they would do it solo.
The only time players would form groups was to complete flashpoints and operations and those were't required to complete the main story.

But soloing content after the main story finished was made easier after 4.0 And all of this is beside the point because once again Anthem doesn't have a single player campaign for you to play through. You get quests at the hub, you play through them ideally in a group.

You get quests at the hub, you play through them ideally in a group. You can play by yourself (single) or up to for players. Being online won't stop the game from having a campaign, just like it didn't stopped SWTOR.
Also enters Anthem ELDER GAME, which from what Bioware is saying works similar to SWTOR. For instance, after defeating the Sith Emperor with the Jedi Knight you would need to group with other players to fight against Darth Malgus in a Flashpoint. And so on with other operations and flashpoints. On Anthem it was implied post campaign goes through Strongholds, which holds the same 4 players form as FP.

I've read that difficulty scales depending how many people are in your group, but even if this is the case all the enemies will be aiming for you. So if you're a squishy class/javelin you need to be good at evading. Also you don't get the benefit of combos. So it'll still be harder to solo, though some people will probably be able to do it. Not me though, I'm not that good with shooters. I wonder if running away is an option ...

Almost sure Mark said it is still possible to do combos alone. I think he even used the Ranger cryo grenade as a example.

I'm optimistic though...I enjoyed ME:A combat and movement and this appears to upgrade that system

So was SWTOR. Still most people played the campaign from the start to the ending solo and only grouped for content that required grouping (flashpoints and operations). See the patern?
That is true, I'm surprised people forget about Old Republic. I think the big difference though is that Old Republic is an MMO while Anthem is a shared-world game not unlike Destiny, so that's probably what's throwing people off. Not to mention, all the advertising is putting major emphasis on playing multiplayer, so some people are feeling the game can't be played unless it's multiplayer.

Yeah, they are so sneaky with allowing people to play the demo three weeks before release to assess whether they like it or not. Fiendishly clever... You have to pre-order the game first though. Which means people who are on the fence about the game won't be playing the demo ... unless they pre-order just to cancel, but I have ethical issues with doing that. That is probably the only information released i disliked so far. A paid demo. Just call it early acess...
