I never had any intention of jumping into a MP game designed to compete with Destiny. Nothing against anyone who wants to do that, but it never appealed to me.
But I wanted this game to come out strong critically, if only for the hope BioWare won't end up on the scrapheap before producing a few more games I'll enjoy. When it gets mediocre reviews, even worse than the disappointing Andromeda, it's the most disheartening "I told you so" ever.
I really hope this inspires Dragon Age IV to break the rut and EA to stop being EA for a bit, but I'm not holding my breath.

Okay, earlier I made a claim that reading Metacritic user rants are worth more than a picosecond of attention, and here's a case in point. This made me LOL. I don't care who you are, this shit is funny! "This is hilariously bad. BioWare is just a bunch of nuMale hacks who take their marching orders from lunatics and degenerates like Anita Sarqueefian. I hope EA shutters BioWare and everyone working there goes broke." EDIT: another one "Not worth your money, time, etc. loading too many bugs that can't even count loading consist crashing loading" Well when you can't keep your attention towards playing Anthem instead then surely the game failed at something.

To be honest, I'm glad it's being a failure. This way they'll know what they must NOT do on the next Mass Effect and Dragon Age. They managed to get reviews lower than Andromeda, which is a terrible game, so this game must really suck

I think Anthem's failure is at least as likely to make EA decide that Bioware is no longer a studio they're interested in devoting significant resources into.

Well, I haven't played Anthem, but by reading the reviews the mistakes seem to be the same of Fallout 76: Too much focus on the "open world" and online and too little focus on story, making the open world feel more alive and quests/missions, not to mention tons of bugs and server issues. Andromeda made the very same mistakes, except it wasn't really focused on the online part.

Gosh, were you born like that, is EA paying you, or you had an accident or something?

"Committed" to another ME is a bit exaggerated, don't you think? "Certainly not dead," isn't what I would call commitment. I wouldn't hold my breath. And even if they did attempt another ME, what's the chance it will be any good, given everything that's happened since ME3 pre-Extended Cut? You can't have it both ways. If all you see is the decline of Bioware, holding out for a good new ME is pretty Quixotic.

Even with all the ending controversy, the ending DLC gave a little satisfaction. They should do at least another try, even if it is only to close the story or even better, dismiss Andromeda completely and start from scratch.

Bioware made chocolate bars with Anthem's Metacritic score on the wrapper.
It's possible to find the humour in all ... most some situations.

I start to wonder if the people that complained last week claiming it's too early for reviews actually were right, but for the wrong reason. The first reviews were 70ies. But the later ones, presumably by reviewers who spent more time with the game and found out how broken the endgame is (not just lack of it, but how technically broken it is and infuriating to battle through), gave it even lower scores.
I myself start to change my opinion. I was ok with the game while going through the story and having (mostly) working missions. I thought a 7 or 7.5 score was about right. Now, after battling with the endgame for almost a week, I think the 5 and the 6 scores were more on the money. A game that is supposed to be about endgame grind is 35 % time to grind and 75 % of the time trying to find an unbroken activity to start the grind. I can tolerate Freeplay (the only mostly stable endgame activity) for just so long.

Agree completely. The more you dig into it the more flawed it is. Just compare the professional critic reviews to the youtube reviewers. The youtubers that have gone deep into the endgame are sounding much, much more critical than someone who only played it 10 hours.

Andromeda made the very same mistakes, except it wasn't really focused on the online part. And inquisition also had these mistakes. Plus DA4 is already rumored to be a live service itself. BW will learn nothing. DA4 will most likely be more of the same we seen from Inquisition, Andromeda, and Anthem. They're stuck using frostbite engine, their writers don't know how to write a serious story anymore, and the live service model will be the foundation. I don't see the next DA game doing so well. Though this is assuming we get another DA. I don't have high hopes for BW next game, but I'll keep my eye on it just like I did with Anthem. All my hype is geared towards actual RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077 and Outer Worlds.

I can't wait for the climactic confrontation with Solas in DA4 where our character tells him to go suck an egg and then he gets killed by skyhold crashing into him

Only salvation I see for Bioware is do complete 180 and make DA4 full blown rpg, like with Origins. Bring back everything: stats, skills, backgrounds, ton of c&c and dialogue options, etc. No Frostbite and fucking large maps/open world: you suck at it. Like the classics, with good writing. People would love that, run it on "Bioware returning to it's roots" marketing campaign. Respawn/Apex Legends is already more successful than anything Bioware did, straying more and more from what they did in the past. What keeps them alive at this point, is being EA's only "rpg studio".

Some characters really surprised me, they were very well developed, especially Solas. But indeed, DA:I also gave hints of a shallow open world and a lot of fetch quests. But the story wasn't terribly written and the characters were mostly good. Interaction with them in the fortress was also fun. Also, Inquisition didn't have many bugs as Andromeda or Anthem. It even won goty.

The only problem is, as others have said already, will EA let them? Because this model is mostly what gives EA money. Not from sales, but from microtransactions. EA just doesn't care about money from sales anymore.
