Since @dragonracerposted posted such an excellent rundown of what it's like living in Florida I thought it might be interesting to see others posting similar things about their state/country/town or area. I figured I could go first and try to summarize my neck of the woods! So. Sweden! We don't actually have polar bears walking around our streets (or anywhere else). We do have plenty of moose, some wolves and bears though. Those wolves and bears are basically our only "dangerous" animals. They don't really pose a problem either. Last time I heard of someone ending up in a precarious situation was when a hunter managed to step through the roof of a sleeping bear's den. There are some snakes, the only one that's actually poisonous is the common European adder and that one's not that bad. There's only been a few deaths as far as I know, probably due to anaphylactic chock. Get to a hospital and you'll be fine unless you've got allergies. Our biggest offender? The mosquitoes. They're a plight. Truly. Some areas are terrible during the summer. You can hardly go outside unless you want to be enveloped in a buzzing cloud of nasty insects. Get some insect spray ("Mygga" is a decent one for instance) and you might get a slight protection. And we do actually have summers. It's not just snow and ice even though that tend to be a common opinion. We do have a pretty wide range of temperatures over here. From 25-30 celsius (77-86 F) during a warm summer down to negative 25-30 C (-13 to -22 F) during really cold winters. Depending on where you live the winters are handled with varying success. Snow tend to create some chaos in the south while the northerners are usually used to it and prepared. You have to be really when you end up with enough snow to bury parked cars. Maybe due to our rather varying climate Swedes tend to constantly complain about the weather. The summers are too hot and the winters are too cold. Be prepared for bright summers and dark winters as well. If you go a bit up north the sun won't set during the summer and won't actually rise during the winters either. Yay cold darkness! Having sunlight 24/7 during the summer is pretty great though! On the topic of summers. If you ever feel a nasty smell coming from (probably quite a few) houses during August, don't be overly alarmed! People have probably just opened their can of Surströmming (fermented herring) and that's quite a big deal. It does smell though. Very much so. According to a Japanese study, a newly opened can of surströmming has one of the most putrid food smells in the world. You basically have to eat it outside and even more importantly, open the cans outside since they have a tendency stink up the place for quite a while otherwise. There are quite a few amusing Youtube clips of foreigners trying to eat it with varying degrees of success. You don't usually eat them straight from the can though but rather on a piece of bread with chopped up onions and potatoes. And washed down with a shot of snaps (Basically a spiced vodka. That probably helps and is something that tends to pop up during basically any and every big holiday. I guess we do like our alcohol) It's considered a delicacy and something of a festive occasion. I personally don't touch the stuff however. Here's an example of peoples first reaction: There's another oddity as well, and that's Lutfisk that's eaten around Christmas. That's a fish that's been air dried and aged with lye. You have to soak it in water for some time before cooking it (carefully) before you can even consider eating it. Though it might sound strange, it's actually not all that bad. I like it myself! You end up with something that's basically just fish, even though the consistency is a bit.. wobblier than usual. Beside strange foodstuffs we comsume insane amounts of candy and coffee! I seem to recall we've been one of the countries that eat the most candy and drink the most coffee in the world. We might not be number one right now but we're up there. This is a common sight in pretty much any grocery store: And it's good stuff too! We do know our candy. My guess is that we've developed a need for different means to get us through our long dark winters. Coffee, candy and alcohol, the cornerstones of a healthy lifestyle? Oh, and if you want to fit in? Make fun of Norway. Just make them out to sound stupid and you're golden. We've got tons of jokes that basically just point out that they're, well.. not quite the sharpest tools in the shed. Don't worry though. They do it to us as well so it's all good. We really do love our Norwegian neighbors though, it's more like two siblings bickering than anything else. And if you're a sports fan? Hockey and football (soccer as you yanks would call it) are the two big ones around here. You get plenty of other sports as well but football and hockey dominate the others. We're a pretty connected country as well. If you move in to an apartment for instance and find that you can't get a connection around 500 mbit for a decent price it would be rather surprising. Hell, even gigabit connections have started popping up. I know of a few places where you get a 1000/1000 connection included in the rent. Something else that's pretty typical of Sweden is snus. It's basically a moist tobacco powder that you put under your lip. Kind of like dipping tobacco in the US but without the spitting. It's illegal to sell in the EU except in a few countries like Sweden. They tried to outlaw it here as well but we don't like to let go of our bad habits. What else.. If you see a bunch of Swedes donning flowery wreaths dancing around what basically a big flowery penis (that actually is what it originated as), don't be alarmed, they're just celebrating midsummer! One of the biggest holidays around here. The big four are midsummer, Christmas, new years and Easter. That's basically Sweden I suppose! Oh yeah. Gas is expensive and we pay a ton of taxes but at least we get a decent welfare system out of the latter. Oh, and don't trust our trains during winter. Go by bus, car och plane. There tends to be a lot of delays and other issues due to the cold and snow. There we go! Looking forward to hearing odds and ends about other place around the globe! [edit] Looks like I messed up the formatting.. fixing..

California is roughly the same size as Sweden.. but with about four times as many people. It's not particularly crowded over here.

Rocky Mountains. Dry, yet snowy in the winter, plenty of places to ski (if you're into that....I'm not!)Tons of canyons to hike and camp in. Very high elevation. If you're not used to it and you come to visit, prepare to have a dry throat and headache for the first few days. Simply gorgeous all the time. This is my city. How it looks right now: How it looks in the summer:

Interesting. Let's see: Argentina, currently living in the biggest city of the province of Misiones. Cons: *Shit country *Shit economy *Decades after decades of absolutely dreadful administration and corruption left the country so fucked you wont even believe it. *Country going down hill since before I was even born. Pros: *Pretty much all types of weather and locations, going from hot as hell desert to cold ass snowy areas (never been in a place with snow though). *Cool and beautiful places (and that's coming from a guy who traveled a lot here, so I'd say I know my country somewhat decent). *Good healthcare. In fact It seems to be so good that people from border foreign countries come here and use ours... *Good gun control (this is probably a con for you americans ). I wont say this is the safest place ever, but at least it is extremely uncommon to get robbed on the streets by a guy with a shotgun or some shit. Bad side is that if you ever decide to acquire yourself a gun, the amount of paperwork to be done could fill a Normandy size ship. *Metric system (yes, that's a pro). *Beautiful women (although good luck trying to get a date, or maybe I suck I dunno). *Could be worse I guess. Alright in the city I'm currently living the weather is the worst part. The average temperature is 30º celsius (86 ºF). Pretty much all year is hot, no much rain either. Humidity is as high as a muttafucka all the god mother effing time, which makes heat even worse. I always joke and say that we got 3 summers and one pseudo-autumn here because the "winter" is literally 2 weeks of cold (about 10º celsius / 50º F) and that's it. Whoever says that global warming is "propaganda" deserves to die in a fire. Here's a few pictures of the city itself, sorry if they're crap I had to steal them from wikipedia or google them since I don't have pictures myself. And here's an old ass picture of the bridge that connects with the country of Paraguay: Either people from Argentina or Paraguay can go in and out as they please, providing they're willing to wait an average of 1 and a half hours to pass (because of the line and papers to be filled). Now we have a train line that connects my city and theirs, apparently is faster that way since there's less bullshit involved. Due to this, is very common to see paraguayans in my city and argentinians in their city. Also bonus from my province: Known commonly as the "Triple Frontera" or "Tríplice Fronteira" in portuguese ("triple border" is the literal translation to english), each one of those landmasses are one of the three countries separated by a river. Aaand lastly the Iguazu Falls shared with Brazil, and I'm proud to say that Argentina has the best view and the best installations since we own the 80% of them If you come to this country and don't visit this, you literally wasted your fly ticket. I've been there at least 15 times since I was a child, it never gets old. Wow, I literally said more good things than bad things? I'm dead surprised.

Austria! Pros: * Working health care system, good hygiene standards * Very little environmental pollution * Largely non-religious population * Beautiful landscapes * Fit and healthy people, we do lots of sports compared to other western countries * Mountains!!!! * Private gun ownership * Excellent bakeries * Low crime rate (rising though) Cons: * Ever dwindling economy due to incompetence * Taxes taxing taxes * No national identity or patriotism * Extreme naivety towards immigration and related problems * Bad underfunded neglected military * THE stronghold of militant left wingers and social justice warriors in Europe * Extremely bad/weird jurisdiction, often punishing victims and giving lots of rights to attackers * Part of the European Union and all the bullshit that comes with it * Short people * Women are generally not good looking yet extremely arrogant * Steep food prices * Sometimes a little backwater-ish * TONS of laws and regulations Mountains: The world famous Stephansdom church in Vienna Beautiful forests Second largest city, industrial area, Danube river

I don't want to have to go all the way to south America and crash with a plane on the Andes in order to enjoy them.

My country of origin in one word: KURWA! Ok but seriously i lived in a small Polish town Zgorzelec for half of my lifetime which is a nice place on border with German city of Gorlitz, it used to be a single German city before end of world war 2 but well borders changed, my family from both sides moved there from city of Lwow. Overall the life is pretty simple there, a fair amount of commercial businesses are available(near my house i used to live in there are about 5 big shopping centers) and there are only 30k people living there. A lot of renovation is currently underway to repair the city and make it look like this: www.museo.pl/images/stories/muzea/m_reg_zgorzelec_p1.jpgAlso its fairly close to the triple border between Poland, Czech republic and Germany (30 min drive) hmm and there sued to be the biggest population of Greeks in Poland until end of soviet era and every year there are still greek concerts played in the local amphitheater here is more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zgorzelec#Notable_residentsRight now i live in Trowbridge a small town in UK nothing too fancy really, has quite a lot of industrial areas around it. Close to a white horse (pretty much a limestone horse on side of a mountain) and even had a nice view on it form my school. The town has about 5000 polish residents where as the total population of the town is about 38000. www.greenhillbootsale.com/newwhitehorsejpg.jpg-for-web-normal-1250717498.jpgAnd i study in city of Bath which is 30min away from Trowbridge and now that is a good place, there are Roman Baths present, two universities (obviously i got to the better one ) and actually my personal tutor is leading a project on the plasters that change color when infection occurs rather interesting stuff! Brunnels railway was build through the city, a lovely medieval cathedral and a lot of architecture form Georgian times. Queen Victoria never visited the city since when she was a child she overheard someone talking about ''her fat ankles'' yet there is a park in her name and a big statue inbuilt on side of a market. www.bath.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/img_4073.jpgwww.bathchristmasmarket.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Roman-Baths.jpgen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath,_Somerset I hope no one will stalk me irl now >.> And living bit, well just survive till the weekend
