The problem with strong female protagonists arises when "strong" and "female" become their only noticeable character traits, so the result is boring. That, or when someone is so intent on making their female character strong they forget to give them any weaknesses and all sense of depth obliterated. I think some of it is the way we measure. Female strong does not equate to male strong. The measure for male strong has had a long time to mature and evolve, but female strong is fairly new and no one can really define what that means yet. 3 that I would call strong and interesting are: Ripley is one. Alice is one. Elizibeth is one and she is one in: Lisbeth is one. But this is by my measure and women ourselves my not even agree on what strong means. Of course these examples are limited in the depth, but I would think a measure for a man would be; to overcome, where for a woman it might be; to endure.

Here is a message from every classical RE fan on that sentiment.

My rage at inconsequential bullshit keeps me alive I think. *Ignores my joke* Me: Well, I thought it was great. My favorite thing in this thread besides that sweet maple syrup. And more on topic, Ryder looks pretty cool. Looking forward to playing as her. Really liked my Shepards, Inquisitors, and Hawkes as well. I think a certain level of player-defined responsiveness always helps, but no matter how I play those characters, I enjoy them.

I have been pondering this a bit. I'm not so much interested in strength as resilience and mental toughness. You can always recruit muscle, but to have the ability to decide what needs to be done and then employ the means to do it to me is what you need in a good protagonist. That's true whether you're talking about Elizabeth Bennett or Ripley.

Both real history and mythology? If you'd like, I can compile a list of great and "strong" women from both of these categories.

My personal favorite "strong" woman is Agent Dana Scully.
She had depth for days.

The strongest, most adorable axe-wielding maniac and totally non-sexualized female character is Ys Origin's Yunica Tovah bar none. Don't let her cutesy appearance fool you though, she means business, in this game she hacks her enemies into tiny bits and splatters their blood all over the floors and walls, and creates bloody footprints from walking through them. puu.sh/tPLGg/7a48737dc3.jpgNot only that, but when the game's villainess starts throwing her some sass and attitude her way? She tells her off in her cute way. puu.sh/tPLET/adddf1879a.jpgpuu.sh/tPLF5/33531af767.jpg

Bayonetta is my idea of a strong Woman character. I mean in tune with her sexuality and she flaunts it well, badass chick and overall confident personality. I do not like the idea that just because a woman is portrayed with sexual overtones that means she was created for the sole purpose of satisfying men. Anita Sarkesian's brand of feminism is generally anti-sex
