Yah know, if you'd asked me like ten years ago which series would do better DA or ME I would've looked at you funny if you said DA but here we are. It pains me to even read that, but you're right. Until now the Mass Effect series had always been the better of Bioware's two intellectual properties yet by a twist of fate ME could end up having a much shorter lifespan than DA. If that is how this all plays out, the tombstone for the series should read "Killed by the new IP." Mass Effect will have died by being handed off to an untested studio to give Edmonton, which had produced the last three games, the new IP.

I find it bizarre that it has a lower metacritic score than DA2. I played the demo and it is a much better game than DA2 was when it launched.

The MEA multiplayer doesn't rely upon facial animations or a CC. If that catches, there's a significant cash cow there. seems like its trying to emulate a smash success from nowhere. I can't remember anyone going into ME3 thinking, yeah the MP will probably end up being the most universally praised part of this game. I'm skeptical that they can pull it off again

Its one hell of a shit storm out there. The part I'm not liking here is the almost universal opinion from every reviewer that it has nothing on MET.
Just saw a review say the OT was more like star wars and this is star trek.
I hate Star Trek.
Seeing the pathfinder described as captain Janeway is not cool.
Its just fucking not.
*Sigh*
*Pays for it anyway*

I find it bizarre that it has a lower metacritic score than DA2. I played the demo and it is a much better game than DA2 was when it launched. It will probably turn out to be a better game overall than ME1 as well. That doesn't necessarily mean it should have a better review score. Games should be rated based upon how they compare to similar games from the same era. ME:A will be viewed as a good or bad game by how much it stacks up to The Witcher 3, Zelda, and Horizon:Zero Dawn rather than older games like ME1 or DA2. It would likewise be unfair to rake older games over the coals for flaws that weren't as bad or noticeable during the years they released. You'd have to judge ME1 and DA2 by the standards of 2007 or 2011 respectively.

So quick question.
If ME:A was made by B-Team. What is the A-Team doing for 5 years ?

Everything's possible. I hope not.
Then again, the new IP made by their "A-Team" (Bioware still has one apparently) could be amazing so there would be no point in crying over Mass Effect.

All the haters probably do want to engage in a pre-mature "gloat" over their attempts to kill this game... but I'm not one who believes in counting the chickens before they've hatched. Sales figures will come in in due course. I think all the hate and sensationalism that has permeated the overall gaming community in the past several years will eventually kill the industry. Once their done with Bioware and driven that company out of business, they'll just transfer all their venom to some other developer... and the cycle will continue.

It's not over. But they deserve to be punished hard for this.
I'm an uber-fan of the series and feel betrayed by a lot of the decisions they have made. And, yes, the lack of attractive women and men is one of my disappointments. The 2 Ryders are fine (they fixed FemRyder after all the fuss), but aesthetically, the other characters are a serious let-down.
I'm also upset they've abandoned the power wheel. Probably fun as a straight-up shooter, but tactical combat defined ME for me.
Ultimately, though, it's the "My face is tired" sloppiness that I find unforgivable.
I'm waiting for the $30 compete edition. I'll surely enjoy it, and maybe they'll DLC a decent looking romance option for the straight male.

Let's wait and see. I want ME series to continue. Perhaps a shake up at BW/EA is in order, and out of that destruction something greater will emerge.

Incase anyone forgot.. DA2 received less than stellar reviews, yet the dragon age series endured nonetheless. Reviews for the game seen "decent" to "good"... nobody calling it great.. that is hardly a death knell for the series.. far from it. They will, theoretically, learn from this and move on to make a better game next time. I don't imagine sales will be bad for the game.. perhaps not great, but I suspect decent sales.. thus the franchise will endure fine. The problem is this game was made by a rookie studio... Bioware Montreal's resume includes the ME3 Omega DLC (bug ridden and worst written of all the dlc) and the multiplayer for ME3 (which was excellent.. likely why andromeda's combat is so good)... this is their first actual game... and the first game in the series not under the wing of Casey Hudson (producer, no longer at bioware). Hudson to my understanding was a taskmaster, but he was passionate and protective of the series when he helped make it... I suspect the series simply needs another passionate producer that is more demanding of his team than what this rookie studio has had. Hopefully Bioware Montreal is just going through growing pains here and will get better next time around (assuming the next game doesn't go back to the original series team in bioware edmonton.. who are supposedly working on a new IP) Don't forget that BioWare have been working on a mysterious IP since 2012. So I'm wondering if the task of ME:A was more of a back burner project and handed off to Montreal because most everyone else was on this secret project? And possibly the funding for ME:A was lower than it might have been. It's all speculation, since BioWare have kept this well under wraps, there's no way to really tell. Given how little info we got on ME:A over the last few months, we're not likely to get much on the new IP either over the next year. www.gamespot.com/articles/biowares-new-ip-is-story-based-not-being-announced/1100-6445789/

Edmonton is working on the new IP and DA4. Most of the remaining members of the development team that worked on the first three Mass Effect games is working on the new IP. plus pretty big name departures from the studio I'd love to read an article on what went on behind the scenes during this game's development. There were a lot of warning signs that this game was having a troubled development leading up to it's release. It now makes me wonder now whether those departures were part of the normal turnover in the industry or if a rocky development just burned some people out.

At worst people who read these will enter with a negative bias. You overestimate how much people care about scores lol, at least as a deciding factor. Unfortunately publishers care about scores, or at least that stupid fucking Metacritic average that is way past its expiration date as a thing that should matter. Despite their reputation, EA is generally very accommodating to Bioware, and pretty forgiving of IPs they believe in (ex. greenlighting the Mirror's Edge sequel despite disappointing sales, and trying to nurture Titanfall as a property), so hopefully they'll take it in stride.

They let JE IP die, and that never made JE any worse.
Even if the Andromeda reboot (and it's a big if) does not work out, the ME setting was excellent and they have produced outstanding games in it. I'd rather they conclude the stories, than turn the setting into a Wheel of Time sort of fiasco. At some point familiarity can't carry you on, you get disgruntled by "more of the same" and you need a temptation of the novelty.
In all honesty, if they discontinued both ME and DA IPs after 3-4 games, that would have been plenty for each setting. Saying that DA remained in the same setting is laughable, because it did not get expanded, it literally got re-written with every game. ME verse stayed a bit more consistent, but ME:A is doing the same reboot that Inquisition did for DA:O/DA2.
As for A-Team, B-team.... I believe in the under-dogs. The Consular's writer in SWTOR was a new person, and she delivered a story I personally loved far, far better than the A-lister that did the Jedi Knight that was based of their famed KOTOR. And, yes, I was in a minority, but hey, I like having those pleasant surprises sometimes, when something gets in that would not appeal to the majority, but will appeal to an odd-ball like me. B-teams and underdogs excel at that. :)

I remain hopeful that maybe all this bad advertisement about animations and such actually makes the game more popular since bad publicity is still publicity.
Plus many of the bad animation memes are fucking hilarious, i think it might go well because the game is interesting and fun, only a loud minority is overly critical of every little element of the game.
And after all it is mass effect, there arent any games like it.
