This might be a death knell for the Mass Effect series.

Yah know, if you'd asked me like ten years ago which series would do better DA or ME I would've looked at you funny if you said DA but here we are.

All the haters said DA:I would bomb and it didn't, they still say it did because EA doesn't release sales figures so we only know it's place in charts for physical console versions and that EA said it was their best release or something.

Anyway we don't know how this will do. Let's wait and see.

Oh my god, OP, why do you have such a weak nerve? For fuck's sake, just play the game and see how you like it instead of having a meltdown over other's people opinions. We get it, you're terrified. You did countless threads about it already. Despite how excited you were.

I do think these reviews are low for a ME game, regardless - 75 ain't a bad score, if it stays that way, even then, I think I will love this game. But I need to complete this shit first before pulling the trigger, and so far - it's a blast.

So, hell fuckin' yes - try to control yourself. If you can't deal with the reviews, stay away from places that are talking about them.

It's just that, reviews. You might disagree with them, or not. This game's fate lies with its sales, and it will probably do well, it's Mass Effect, unless there's another twist in this story, but that's something we have to wait and see. And meanwhile, I will be playing it, thankful for a new ME game when it wasn't needed in the bigger picture, but here it is.

Doubt it, though EA's expectations with sales will be deciding factor. ME has no close competitors in industry ( yet), but they may end up putting the sequel on hold( like SE did with last Deus Ex).
Something positive may come out of this..new writers, better animation tech and someone more qualified in the lead.

I'm not concerned about my personal enjoyment of the game since I enjoyed the demo, but I am concerned about the sales figures and whether or not we will see a sequel.

What a lot of the issues really boil down to is a lack of finesse. It was the studios first full release, and the first Mass Effect game in the frostbite engine, and it shows. The right pieces are all there, but there's a lack of refinement and consistency.

Now that they have MEA under their belt and all of the existing assets are in place it should be easy to build off of that, fix the flaws and create a sequel that improves on all of the weaker elements. If they don't get a chance to do that because of a lack of sales or a higher-up decision it will be a massive disappointment and a wasted opportunity.

Knew from a long time ago that it wasn't being made by the A team and so what. People still buy COD and that's being made from the A team, B team, etc. Doesn't make them any better or worse but people still buy the games because they enjoy the games. I don't understand why worry about what other people think or if they will buy the game when it's your money to buy the game and your time to play it.

Because gamers are freakin' brats that think everything is either Hitler or better than sex. Also, read my response again, oh wait - let me highlight it for you.

Incase anyone forgot.. DA2 received less than stellar reviews, yet the dragon age series endured nonetheless. Reviews for the game seen "decent" to "good"... nobody calling it great.. that is hardly a death knell for the series.. far from it.

They will, theoretically, learn from this and move on to make a better game next time. I don't imagine sales will be bad for the game.. perhaps not great, but I suspect decent sales.. thus the franchise will endure fine.

The problem is this game was made by a rookie studio... Bioware Montreal's resume includes the ME3 Omega DLC (bug ridden and worst written of all the dlc) and the multiplayer for ME3 (which was excellent.. likely why andromeda's combat is so good)... this is their first actual game... and the first game in the series not under the wing of Casey Hudson (producer, no longer at bioware). Hudson to my understanding was a taskmaster, but he was passionate and protective of the series when he helped make it... I suspect the series simply needs another passionate producer that is more demanding of his team than what this rookie studio has had.

Hopefully Bioware Montreal is just going through growing pains here and will get better next time around (assuming the next game doesn't go back to the original series team in bioware edmonton.. who are supposedly working on a new IP)

Oh, what a world we live in where a game that is being widely praised as GOOD should be considered a failure and the death of its series. People have been yelling about the death of Final Fantasy for years, and yet FFXV was the fastest selling in the FF series. The name holds a lot of power. ME will always sell simply because it is ME. Beyond that, perhaps this new approach will attract new fans as well. Regardless, the game's financial success can only be measured when sales numbers come to light in the coming months.

At worst people who read these will enter with a negative bias. You overestimate how much people care about scores lol, at least as a deciding factor.

Yeah that's what I'm getting at.  Although we can also bring up other issues such as IGN having the monopoly on pre-release material outside of BioWare itself, I don't trust them to be wholly objective after that
