I loved the DAI crafting system, especially with how it let me design awesome looking armor for my mage.
That being said I think there were very few pieces I thought were awesome. I feel like generally Dragon Age customization has a few good choices and then the rest don't look as appealing. Applies to the character creation too.

I genuinely don't remember how DAO originally played because I only ever played it with mods after my 1st playthrough. I think I used one for Nightmare+, one that added more tactic options, Dragon Age Redesigned I think, some cosmetic upgrades like the warden armor... etc. Oh and one that let me kiss Alistair or something cause 1st RPG character crush tbh.
God I was obsessed with Andrew Ryan's art...

I'm still curious why people feel compelled to compare a game released in 2024 to one released a decade ago.
Not interested in participating much myself but I will say that I replayed Dragon Age games far more than I did BG3. I'm still not over Act 3 being terrible.
Edit: Do note I still think BG3 is a 10/10 game.

One advantage of having not played Dragon Age for so long is that I'm going in with almost no expectations other than having a good time which means I'll probably enjoy it no matter what. I also promised myself I'd avoid any discussions about it because I don't want my initial impression to influenced by others, like with what happened with Mass Effect Andromeda.
Though I'll probably fail at some point because goddamn I miss this series.

The incessant grumbling gets grating after a while, but the sunshine and rainbows mini-brigade is not much better. To be fair, when operating on a context of almost no information, it's far healthier to hope things go well rather than despair about how they won't. It's been over a decade since Dragon Age Inquisition. At this point we don't have much to operate on. All people can do is hope. If DAD fails, that's probably the end of the series. If it succeeds, we'll be happy. Either way, we'll get closure.

But yes, people who pick default Sheploo, with the soldier class, are probably not that interesting to talk to... 9 times out of 10. Soldier is a pretty fun class, especially in ME3. Don't care for default Shepard though. They looked good in ME3 but not that great in the others tbh... My custom characters always looked better.

I mean... I'll be honest...even from a vain, superficial point of view I don't like how Elves look like in this game (though I can appreciate the unique style and think it's cool), don't care for Qunari aesthetics, and generally don't like playing Dwarves cause gear looks squished on them.
Human males look so good in Dragon Age, especially in armor.

You can have your opinion but I dont see how it's boring. They look good, gear looks great on them, they have ties to all the plot points, and have really fun outcomes. I enjoyed manevering my way to becoming king or queen for one. Sorry but picking a human in a RPG with several non human options is just lame. And even worse if those players also using the human standard face. Atleast more people playing as a female human so that´s something And yes this is just my opinion but if too many players are ignoring those options its only legit for the devs (no just Bioware) if non human stuff is worth the extra effort. This has always been a lame take tbh. The point of playing a normal, regular human in a fantasy setting is precisely the point. You're navigating a world without any special racial powers or crazy fantasy takes and you do your best to survive.

The human noble in DAO should have had even greater significance to their story if Return to Ostagar had been included in the main game rather than as a DLC and they had followed up on the odd throw away line that you could have missed, such as Howe accusing your father of being a traitor when you confront him in Denerim. Even with Return to Ostagar and Awakening mostly Nathaniel Howe it doesn´t change my opinion that human protagonists are a boring pick. If i had to choose one origins which defined DAO and it´s darker tone well nothing beats female Tabris.

I played many origins but my favorite was Human Noble and Circle Mage. I have so many playthroughs of these. I was *obsessed* with DAO cause it was my first RPG experience.

Does there need to be a dedicated thread for this? YES. Every prison needs a confinement wing for their lunatics.
But for real, if not for this thread, there would be thread after thread of people saying how much Dreadwolf is going to bomb and how little faith they have in BioWare and that would get annoying for everyone.
That's the joke. It isn't confined.

Just hope there's actual DA/ME news soon because it's clear that in the absence of content to consume, people are digging through some real rabbit holes. Edit: no pun intended quizzy OR ... just play other games. This is a wonderful time for the RPG genre so why wait around for ... 6 years praying that next month we get some exciting news hinting at a future potential teaser that will hint at a future potential trailer that might suggest a release date that will inevitably be pushed back? EDIT: Yes, I have donned my edge hat today. It is currently shredding all my hair it's that edgy. Yes exactly that's what I have been doing. I haven't been waiting for 10 years. I only come back here for relevant DA/ME news once in a while, and all I ever see is rage and drama. Probably because people are sitting here and percolating in their own frustrations that they can't play the game yet and then projecting it into everything that is also negative. At least that's what it feels like. Not trying to tell people what to do with their lives, but my initial post was just a commentary on how it feels like some people who are outright hostile probably should just move on, for their own sake if anything.

Feels like some of you have become somewhat hostile towards BioWare so it's very weird that you still frequent these forums. It is possible to be upset with the way a company has treated its employees and still be interested in what will come of those employees and the game(s) they were working on. This forum has a bunch of people who follow BioWare news closely and share it with others here, so it's a good "one-stop shop" for what's happening wrt BioWare. Yeah sure this wasn't directed at people who are disappointed and/or upset with BioWare (I am definitely disappointed).

I am not sure why this guy shat on ME2 and Skyrim, and he sure was over the top clickbait, cuz this is the internet. However, I do agree that Bioware peaked with DAO, before ditching the more "complicated" RPG elements, in favor of homogenization, action and fetch quests. BioWare peaked with Mass Effect 3. The hilariously overblown drama over the ending aside, that was their best game since. Also DAO had a lot of issues that were only resolved with mods. ME3 didnt need any.

Try the CoD fanbase though if you're a woman and oh boy does that fanbase go from "kinda okay" to "one of the most toxic places on earth" in a heartbeat. Jesus, what's wrong with that fanbase :S It's gotten much worse recently too. I’m aware of that and saw some of that in game lol.but they never claimed to be diverse and accepting. If you’re gonna be toxic at least be honest lol. Thats something I can kind of respect from COD lol. This discussion reminds me of the CoD clip from Matteo Lane on youtube lol

I really enjoyed BG3, but I have to admit it was really, really funny to see people be very forgiving of BG3's terrible Act 3 performance and story inconsistencies. ME3 was an almost perfect game throughout except for its ending (on launch) and people raked them over the coals over it and even after they addressed it it didn't matter.
There's probably some wisdom you can glean from this, but I'll chalk it down to gamers being fickle and dumb when it comes to expectations.
Anyway BG3 is the closest we've been to Dragon Age in a long, long time. Just need them to copy paste the "Choose your party" implementation on camp exit.
I will say I hated the tadpole mechanic. I feel like unless you metagame or play a batshit crazy "ends justify the means" type, messing around with it in any shape or form is beyond stupid. Worst part is there were no side effects to using it, so I basically played blind tactician on hardcore mode.

Found out on Twitter that there's some new drama. Saw someone post something about "what do you love about Dragon Age" only to have people bombard them accusations of "toxic positivity". A post about what people like about BioWare games... that happened... before all this happened. As a human being, I'm obviously empathetic to their cause. The whole situation is quite terrible and I hope they win the lawsuit. On the other hand, this just shows how much gamers have a hilariously parasocial relationship with the people who create the products they consume. Imagine expecting someone who reads a book to care about what some editor did. I'll be honest. I don't know any of these devs, and I never have in anything other than name except for David Gaider when I first came out. I'm not invested. I'm only here to play Dragon Age, not concern myself with what goes on within the company. My expectations are already pretty low. I just want a fun game in Thedas. Don't care who makes it. Can't believe it's been a decade. Might listen to the Solas Trespasser speech again wistfully. True enough points, but this is a Bioware forum. It would be strange if there wasn't some discussion on this. Heck, without discussion about this the forum essentially dies because we haven't a shred of info about the game side of things for a long time. Oh I'm not telling people not to talk about it. I wasn't going to say anything about it at all. No use adding to the fire, but if people wanna go ham about it go ahead. I only got irritated (late) last night because I saw a couple hundred people on Twitter dogpile a user for posting something not inherently critical about BioWare. These terminally online people have declared that people cannot say positive things about BioWare because of some employee drama as if consumers are obliged to care. If some random wants to talk about how much like they Morrigan then that's their prerogative. I'll also admit to being a little sensitive about it because both of my favorite childhood companies (Blizzard and BioWare) get embroiled in one drama after another. I just want good news damnit lol.
