You got my hopes up revived thread! I thought something had been announced. I'm still completely unsure if they are in or not. It's difficult because I know that if they aren't in ME:A they are very likely to be in MEA2... and I know that if they were added in a sequel a squadmate would be likely. Part of me thinks it may be best to accept they are probably not in, enjoy Andromeda for what it is and wait until we get a full squadmate in a future game... But It's already been a five year wait for Andromeda. I'm not patient enough to console myself by thinking about future games.

Ultimately Andromeda is a game, and having a large cabin makes more sense from a gameplay perspective (more room to display collectables, fit customisation benches and the like). It also makes far more sense from a cinematic perspective, not just for romances but friendships as well. Honestly those things are far more important to me than whether it makes sense or not. Unrealistic? I couldn't care less.

Inquisition and ME:A took longer because they were working with a new engine. I doubt MEA:2 and DA:4 will take as long to produce, because of all the assets they can take from the previous game. I'd guess around 3.5 years for each, maximum.

I know it's not necessarily news, but I feel it's appropriate given the circumstances: I was slightly disappointed when the Tempest and Nomad briefing didn't have any blurred humanoid figures for people to speculate over. It feels like it's become something of a running joke at this point.

Why is Bioware suddenly obsessed with making half the male humans on our crew latin American?

It's possible Jaal is a quarian, but I'm not sure. Also, when asked can't Quarians colonize a new planet, Tali says it'll take centuries for all Quarian to adapt to their new world. It'll take all races centuries regardless, but that and their immunity would be an obstacle more so than the M.W. I think it's the "He?" Kett. I think if it was a quarian, it would be listed as Jaal'something vas Somethingelse I think Tali and Garrus' pop figurines just use their first names. But a name is so little to go on, I think people are getting a bit too excited. I wish they'd just tell us if they are in or not already, because if they aren't there's no reason to drag it out and let people get their hopes up.

What I'm 99% sure they are: An Andromedan squaddie. Probably one of those ugly blue play-dough thingies. What I want them to be: A male Quarian of course!

Well, "The Kett" are apparently prominent enough to warrant a pop so it's difficult to say. I really want a male Quarian, but I'm not going to get all excited or get my hopes up over a name. I am 90% sure it is just the name of an Andromedan Squadmate, who it appears isn't a Kett, like I initially assumed. Could it be a principal antagonist? Possibly, though I assume the Kett, remnant and renegade Milkay Way species will mostly fill the role of antagonist. Our final squadmate seems most likely. "Hoophead" seems to be a female Kett so I doubt it's them, as we already have Kett figurines. Though if they are the principal antagonist, or final squaddie for that matter, it's possible.

Hmm, I wonder what race Jaal could be. Maybe it is a member of a friendly new race, or a Kett who is on our side. If it is a member of a Milky Way race, my guess is Quarian. If so, I hope that means Geth are coming too. If they are important enough to be a funko pop, then I'm betting he/she is likely a squadmate. We know at least one of our squad is a member of one of the new races so..... Well, "The Kett" are apparently prominent enough to warrant a pop so it's difficult to say. I really want a male Quarian, but I'm not going to get all excited or get my hopes up over a name. I am 90% sure it is just the name of an Andromedan Squadmate. Given they already have a figurine I'm assuming it's not a Kett.

The final decision of ME3 ruins any chance of having anything from the Milky Way reappear without establishing some form of canon. Control and Destroy you could maybe get away with. Maybe. But Synthesis and Refusal? The second one of the milky way aliens comes through we'll know Refusal isn't canon in ME:A. Well, if they incorporate something like the Dragon Age Keep for Mass Effect which they may and probably will do then if Refuse was chosen they could just say it doesn't work due to an issue on the Milky Way end and whatever content that connection would have given is inaccessible. As for Synthesis, that's even easier since all they have to do is either just add an effect overlay on the characters who come through so they have the Synthesis lines or have it explained that as time went by those faded until they weren't seen anymore. If the Milky Way connection is only used as a footnote at the very end of the series then what is the point of including it at all? They may as well just say that the connection can't be established because of the damage inflicted and leave it at that. It's not worth letting players import/state which ending they picked for a five minute scene at the very end. If it's at the end of, say, ME:A and is intended to follow on to the next game, that will be impossible to work with. Having half the characters in game possibly not be there isn't workable, and the story differences of having all these half-synthetic people appear verses people who've grown up with the Reapers as a force for good vs those who grew up in destroy... and in Synthesis death due to natural causes may not even exist... You could make it work cosmetically, but character and plot wise it would be unrealistic to make it a major plot element without establishing a canon.

Doesn't this muddy the waters and bring back a whole bunch of narrative structural can of worms that the change in setting with pre ME3 world state was supposed to resolve? Not really. Having it reconnect allows Bioware to control what from the Milky Way comes to Andromeda, which that plus the 600 year difference eliminates most of the different choices and leaves the few that are left a lot easier to handle while respecting player choice. The final decision of ME3 ruins any chance of having anything from the Milky Way reappear without establishing some form of canon. Control and Destroy you could maybe get away with. Maybe. But Synthesis and Refusal? Impossible without some form of time travel.

I read an interesting article on Forbes that speculated that Mass Effect Andromeda is being marketed carefully and trying not to build too much hype after both Mass Effect 3 and No Mans Sky were hit with insane amounts of (in my opinion, justified) criticism for building up hype with developer comments that were not true or misleading. Personally I think they are playing it slightly too safe. There are a lot of things that I want answers to and to see more of before release, and that is only two months away now. But I can't say I blame them. Can you provide link please? www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2017/01/06/mass-effect-andromeda-is-almost-dodging-hype-as-the-anti-no-mans-sky/#342eecb37c98It focuses mostly on the games comparisons to No Mans Sky, but I believe that the hype backlash towards Mass Effect 3 is just as, if not more relevant as to why Andromeda is being marketed the way it is.

The honest truth is that we probably haven't even been introduced to half the romance options yet. It's not surprising to see Reyes and Kallo on most peoples male romances list, as they along with Liam and Drack are the only male characters we've actually been introduced to besides Ryders dad. In fact, I think Drack is the only prominent male character whose face we've actually seen.
I'd like to have a better idea of what the characters in our crew and squad are. Or at least the number of squad mates we'll have. Then maybe we can actually get a grasp of what the romance prospects are.
As for the gender ratios, I'm fine with the majority of the squad being female, but we certainly don't need more female romance options than male ones. The Mass effect games have always had more female romances.

Andromeda was a good chance to let us play other species in single player. Personally I would have liked the option, and would like to see them do it eventually. I think that limiting the options to Human, Asari and Turian would be the best approach, since those seem to be the species people would be most interested in playing.

I personally find it unlikely that all 3 female squadmates are full LIs. Cora is almost certainly 1 of them, but I think Vetra and Peebee are up in the air. I suspect that 1 will be available and the other will not. I'm hoping its Vetra, mainly because I think turians are just great. That being said, maybe Peebee could have a Samara like "light romance"? She doesn't strike me as the type who's looking to settle down. It's possible that Dr. Lexi, the ships doctor, is our asari romance and PeeBee isn't interested. It's also unlikely but still possible that we have another female companion, especially if there are two more. A single male Andromedan seems the most likely, though. I guess I could see them all being full LI's if one of them is a lesbian, but I can't see them going that route with any of them.

Back when ME3 ended I was so angry I said I would never play the next game if it was a prequel, knowing that it would all lead towards that trainwreck of an ending regardless lore-wise.
But they made the smart move and separated Andromeda so much from ME3 that I can put all of that mess behind me, so I'm going to be playing it. They way I see it I already made my dissatisfaction clear by buying none of ME3's DLC, and I trust the new team to avoid making the same mistake with regards to Andromeda's ending, and future closure.

What's more, the sheer idea of an organisation visiting a different galaxy of which they have no clue what it actually contains, and simply have them assume their ships will be able to outrun or hide from any potential foe is laughable. Not more so than people investing impossible amounts of money in a project with extreme risk and no return. Doesn't that describe most real-life space exploration?

The Tempest looks cool, and our pilot looks like a fun character. I'll probably enjoy interacting with him.
Would have liked to see some of the other crew members, but I can understand why they wouldn't want to reveal so much of the primary cast at this stage.

It's tempting, but there are some things I really want to know going in, like which species won't be present. Disappointments like that are best dealt with before playing the game itself, or they can sully the experience.
God knows how badly I'd have reacted to Mass Effect 3's ending if I hadn't known beforehand how awful they were.

(Sigh) I don't have Citadel. I bought the Trilogy as a Trilogy on steam sale, and between the DLCs pricing and really crazy amount of inconvenience for purchasing them... it's just silly. I don't think they fell into a rut, because they put in mechanisms to kill your female companions that displeased you in fairly recent games, and not just as a suicide mission (Tali vs Legion is there as well, and Samantha that can be killed during her Loyalty mission). I think you can also kill Neeshka, just like Bishop if she betrays you in NWN2. You can continuously torture Vette in SWTOR, by using her slave shock-collar. it's just sometimes they do want to protect plot points, even though females on the whole appear to be more loyal by whatever reason. It is a game after all. Though gods only knows why we can't kill Morrigan.... Heh, which brings me back to: "That's why I want to romance interesting out-of-party characters" since there is more freedom of working with it. A bit off-topic, but NWN2 was made by Obsidian, not Bioware.
