Another thread got me thinking... does it bother anyone else that pretty much all the female LI's in Mass Effect are white? Other than Samantha, who's only an option for women.
We have more Asari LI's in Mass Effect than non-white females, and that's kinda shocking.
Especially since the only white male LI I can think of is Gil.

Vivienne was a very well written character with great voice acting, but she had controversial opinions. The majority of BSN users have always been pro-mage so it's not difficult to see why she was a controversial character. I really liked her personally, even if I disagreed with her views she always made good arguments for her opinions. She also had some great banter. Jacob and Liam are both badly written, it's as simple as that. I do think Bioware could do with broadening their horizons a bit. In every Mass Effect and Dragon Age game the lead female LI has been white. In fact, we've had considerably more non-human LI's than non-white LI's, which is a bit questionable. It just comes down to character types, really. My favourite companion in Pillars of Eternity was Pallegina, and I was very happy to hear she'll be returning in the sequel. I'd certainly like to see Bioware take some notes on how they handled her and the Vailian Republics as a whole.

gaycaravaggio Um, because it has to make sense? Beats the fuck out of me. I just know I'm done with it. I wish I had played more of the game before I wrote my letter. It's exhausting. We (bisexuals) can rarely be normal people. Kaidan was the first, and now Vetra. We have to be "discovering true love for the first time" or "I'm actually a shady guy" or "gimmie all that sex." I'm not trying to rip into the men and women that made these decisions. With members of my own family working for huge corporations, I try not to see any one group or company as a faceless monolith. I am having a good time overall and have already socked in about 40 hours into the game. However, I am going call their decisions when it comes to most of the bisexual characters utter and complete pjack shit. I also think that Vetra is very well done and my pick for the romance on my next character. She doesn't act like she's a stuttering virgin nor a horndog. She's focused, driven and very kind-hearted. She's a well rounded character that doesn't hide her bisexuality, but doesn't put it on display 24/7. Plus, put her and either Drack or Peebee in a part and kiss much of the difficulty good bye as an Operative/Adept. I agree, though I think Leliana is also an example. Kind of sucks we've only had three middle ground characters there, but we work with what we got. Fenris was handled pretty well as well. I mean, Id hardly call him normal, but he never came across as promiscuous or overly innocent and virginal.

Peebee's zero g scene was very odd in my game. I was already locked into a romance with Vetra, so she invited me into the pod in a flirty tone, we floated around a bit and... that was it, near-immediate cut to black.
It made a lot more sense after I saw a video of the scene with the proposition.

There's a lot to be salty about, for sure. For me, the fact that you can lock in both Gil and Reyes and complete both of their romances without either one acknowledging each other is the most insulting one. I can handle short romances (if they are good). I can handle non-squad romances (if they have equal content). I can handle two humans (if we get our damned gaylien in the next game). But I can't handle them treating with such disregard that they don't even bother thinking through the case if someone romances both of them. And I'm confident that it wasn't a purposeful decision. It was yet another oversight. They just didn't have anyone even think of it so it never got addressed. But gays are sluts didnt y'know that? Gays are promiscuous and indecent sluts. It's not just gay men. Apparently all men are complete sluts, given that none of the male LI's in the game are exclusive only, while at least half of the female ones are.

If your inclined to play this type of game, I'd say just buy it.
Waiting is pointless in my opinion, since they almost certainly aren't going to create any new content in the m/m romances, just alter the existing content. All I'd say is go in with low expectations from the romances. Bear in mind that's coming from someone who dislikes Gil and Reyes to the point I'd rather have no romance than do theirs.

Mass Effect 2 was the biggest offender in this regard, it's not something that started in ME3.
Andromeda not only toned it down but also retroactively fixed some of the issues presented in 2, so I think it handled the issue fine.

Did anyone actually expect them to bring the voice actors in and record new lines just for patches? I though it was pretty clear from the start that the improvements to the m/m romances would be improving the romance scenes and fixing Reyes banter bugs. Maybe a tweak to the achievement as well. For people are acting so jaded and pessimistic those are some pretty unrealistic expectations. I never expected anything like that, and I never will. Would be a miracle if they would do something like that. There might be something in a paid DLC, but I don't have high hopes for even that. Then, there is a possibility that there would be some unused recorded dialogue that they could patch in IF they want, but that is just speculation. The most I'm expecting is a few flirts with DLC characters that don't go very far in the DLC itself, but may result in more in a sequel or something if the character is popular. Like what they did with Lana and Theron in SWTOR.

I'm relatively neutral about this at the moment. The way I see it there are a lot of pro's and cons to bringing Ryder back.
On the one hand I quite like Ryder and would be happy to continue their story, but on the other hand I don't see how they would handle the crew. Having an ME2-style plot device to force the crew apart and give us a mostly new one would come across as cheap and contrived. But bringing everybody back would mean very little room for new characters.
If it was a new protagonist they could also try letting us play different species in single player. Given how Andromeda as a setting would work a lot better with playable aliens than the trilogy it's a great opportunity.
We could also potentially get a time skip to a few years down the line when the initiative is a decade or so established, allowing them to do more with the setting. But then there are a lot of hanging plot threads in Ryders story that would be left unaddressed.
I think it will depend on what DLC we get. Maybe I'll feel that Ryders story is complete, or maybe it will open up an entirely new story and we'll meet new characters who I'll long to become full-fledged squadmates for Ryder in a sequel.

You can always do most of Reyes and then dump him before committing to Gil. That's the way to get the most content for your time if you don't want to complete both via the bug. This is exactly what I did. Flirted with Gil as much as possible. Went to Kadara and flirted with Reyes as much as possible. Including the storage room make out scene. Saved Sloane because I didn't think it was right to murder her in cold blood (there's that morally dubious decision that Reyes is gated behind --- I really have an issue with his romance being locked behind the decision to murder a woman, albeit a pretty nasty woman, but still). Chose not to shoot at Reyes and he gave a little wink as he flew away. Received a 'for what it's worth, I wasn't lying about you' email from Reyes. Then moved on to flirting with Gil as much as possible before locking in that romance, having gaybies, and facing the final boss (Jill). It's certainly not as good as having Gil fleshed out more, but it's actually a pretty enjoyable little story this way. Still doesn't make up for the fact that we have to cobble two romances together to get the same experience, though. Yeah, I like Reyes as a romance option in theory, since he is one of the few morally dubious characters in the game and at least he has a lot of plot-relevant content and an (albeit obvious) twist to his story. I like him a lot more as a character than Gil, who I dislike on a personal level and on a meta level. But locking one of the two NPC m/m options behind an important story decision that involves murdering someone? Eh. I know that it fits his character and story and all that, but I do find it questionable that none of the female LI's have important moral decisions that can lock you out of their romance but half the m/m ones do.

The Mass Effect Trilogy essentially let you pick between two personalities, and whichever one you picked dictated 90% of your conversation choices and 100% of the interrupts you would choose for all three games. At least Andromeda lets you act different around different people and mix up your dialogue options a bit. And interrupts are handled so much better this time. They aren't just an instant click, you have to actually think about each one- and not using the interrupt results in just as unique an outcome as pressing it. Not really since being paragade or renegon gives you way more options in the game than being simply paragon or renegade. By making it almost impossible to keep the loyalty of all your squadmates, make peace between the quarians and the geth, and so on? Besides, the paragon and renegade checks have the exact same outcome every time. Wow, now I can make peace peace between the quarians and geth with an angry rant or I can broker the exact same peace with an inspiring speech! So many more options have opened up! /s And going "paragade" or "renegon" still requires you to metagame and deliberately pick a certain number of paragon or renegade choices. If you just pick whatever feels right, chances are you aren't going to end up with enough points to meet most of the checks of one or the other. And that's not getting into interrupts, which were basically "click this and something more interesting happens".

I don't think Cerberus is involved surely they'd want an influential and competent human to be head of the initiative?
Despite her suspicious activity at the start of the novel I don't see it being Addison either. There are chapters from Addisons point of view where she laments Jiens death.

There are plenty of great arguments against making Jaal bisexual. The fact that he was spurned by an ex-girlfriend is not one of them.

LBG representation is just about having some gay/bi characters and relationships somewhere in the world, and only became a thing because so few TV shows, movies or games had any at all. It's not about having an exact copy of yourself, or any person, in game. So you're not going to invalidate it with some false comparison to fat people. It doesn't work for a number of reasons. Most obviously of all, adding dialogue or story elements to indicate a character is gay/bi is easy. Adding a different body model for every single body type is not. Your post doesn't prove a point and it isn't clever.

Is there any update on the invasive dialogue wheel labels on PC? is there an option to remove them? Yes, please make this optional! I like the new patch, but I don't like the changes to the dialogue wheel on PC. It makes the actual text very hard to read. As I usually use the mouse to click on my answers, I don't need the keys I can push displayed at all. This annoys me and I would like to turn this off in the game options. I'm sure it's not intentional that they are on by default. At least, I hope not. As soon as I saw them my immediate thought was "whoops! looks like some internal testing stuff made it live by mistake"

I never realized this "top, bottom, vers" thing was such a big matter of discussion in the gay/bi community until recently. In fact, I only learnt about "vers" as a term a few months ago.
I always just assumed most people took it in turns for fairness sake.

Representation != romance options. They are two completely separate things, so I don't understand why people always conflate the two. Representation just means having gay/bi/trans/black/asian/alien/whatever characters somewhere in the game. The number of women you get to bang has nothing to do with "straight representation". Or how about "who you get to bang has nothing to do with representation"? If there were no specific gay or lesbian romances but a prominent gay or lesbian NPC crucial to the plot, would that not count as "representation"? I really don't get the representation argument when levied against a bi hypothetical either. I mean what defines a homosexual character more: attraction, romance and sexual relations with a member of the same sex? Or an aversion to the opposite sex? I would think the latter, being a actual action would be more representative than the latter which at best is the absence of an action. Of course that only holds in playersexual cases (or if the romance is treated as such), not for explicitly in-universe bisexual characters as obviously those are very different definitions. Whether you should change an existing character, one way or another is I think, a separate issue. Of course it applies to gay, lesbian and bi characters as well, I only used that example because the person I was replying to was specifically talking about how they felt straight guys had bad representation because he didn't like Scotts female romance options. I've always said that representation and equal romance options are at odds with each other, as having all of the LI's be bi or playersexual would give everyone the same number of options, but would also be absolutely awful for representation because it would only represent bisexual people. It's one of the reasons why why the conversation surround Andromeda's LGB content is difficult. The game is great at LBG representation, with a large number of well handled gay and bisexual NPC's, but the actual m/m romance situation is awful. That's why it's important to acknowledge that they are two separate issues, and that just because one is handled well doesn't automatically mean the other is. And vice-versa of course.

I haven't romanced Suvi so I don't know what it is like, but if her romance is unsatisfying then making her, in particular, bi won't help that all it will do is remove representation from the game. Making her bi doesn't make her romance more compelling. This isn't like DA2, which was designed around all 4 romance options being bi and so each were compelling. (Isabela is one of my favourite romances) It isn't Suvi's sexuality that doesn't make her romance compelling but how it was designed. If Bioware decides to make everyone bi, then I'd be ok with that, all players would get more options, all players would have access to the more developed romance options, but making only Suvi bi removes a gay main character and just gives straight male characters access to one more romance, when they already have access to 2 of the 3 romances people say are well-developed. I do think it's possible for a game to have characters with their own sexuality and to have all the romances well-developed. One of the things DA:I did very well were the romances, none of them felt like less development time was spent on them and they all seemed very appropriate to the character the player was romancing. It just requires time, commitment and funding. If representation is being such huge and first and foremost concern in storydriven videogame making (which makes me faceplam really hard) then just make a cryopods that are full of gays, lesbians transgenders and whatever (that player can choose to activate or not), hell give them an entire ark and optional quest to search for it in DLC, and be done with it. I gladly accept that in exchange for not being gated from interesting characters combinations simply because "inclusion" and "representation" sjw crap. Right now I feel that in terms of "representation" straight males got shafted, despite the supposed quantity of options. While gays and lesbians get hot and interesting Suvi and Gil, straight males get what? SheVanguard woman, and a creepy Angara that look like a gender-change surgery that went wrong. Now there are also "one size fits all": foolish Asari that for all things and purposes feels and sounds like she is not old enough to be romanced, boring Asaru journalist that tries hard to be Diana Allers but will never be even remotely as interesting and attractive as Allers was, and Turian that sounds like your mom and looks like your granny, but those I will not count since they available to everyone and we talking about strict straight/gay/lesbian romance options here. So in that perspective it is pretty much clear who got better romance options. It feels almost as intentional insult to straight players to get "represented" in a way it is ingame, which I guess should be no big surprise considering ppl like Manveer Heir were developing Andromeda. Representation != romance options. They are two completely separate things, so I don't understand why people always conflate the two. Representation just means having gay/bi/trans/black/asian/alien/whatever characters somewhere in the game. The number of women you get to bang has nothing to do with "straight representation". And I can't help but laugh at the hypocrisy. Having lots of gay/bi characters is supposedly "unrealistic" according to the "anti-sjw" types, and you say that they should have just left all of the LBG characters on a DLC ark. But then you say that all the female characters should be bi so you can have more women to bang. And that's why this whole thing is so mind numbingly stupid. People say that making all the characters bi is "SJW crap", but now apparently having characters who aren't bi is also "SJW crap". So basically everything is SJW crap? I bet they are also responsible for 9/11, faking the moon landing and the events at area 51 as well. Personally, I don't think Suvi should be bi, because she was written as a lesbian. That's who her character is. Same thing with Jaal. If you don't like any of the five female romance options for Scott, tough shit.

I think many seem to be forgetting that the Heleus Cluster appears to have been a dead cluster before the Jardaan arrived. What I mean by a "dead cluster" is the Jardaan allegedly went to the cluster to terraform planets and restore (or create) them. Even the Angara were created by the Jardaan, implying there were no other species in the Heleus Cluster. It's silly to compare the Heleus Cluster to others because it has been built by artificial means, rather than natural evolution. It should also be noted that the Kett have performed exaltation on over 1000 species in the Andromeda galaxy. Even if there were other species to see, it's likely the Kett would have wiped many of them out due to their never ending quest for perfection and dominance. Was it? Early on it's stated that the remnant structures weren't on their scans and must have been built after they left the Milky Way. This implies that the golden world were golden before the Jardaan arrived.

Nothing is impossible, especially when it comes to Mass Effect. The arks and the Nexus were impossible until BioWare decided to make them possible. That's a moot point. The arks don't actually break any established lore though. Reapers being able to track ships at ftl speeds does. Feel free to theorize possible future story hooks all you want, but if they come about due to retcons then they probably should not happen. They would know that the ship was heading for the Helius cluster, so tracking it during ftl wouldn't even be necessary. That's a very specific destination. If some of the crew were indoctrinated it would also be pitifully easy to track once in Andromeda. I don't really want a reaper to appear in Andromeda, but I don't think it would break the lore in any way.

I don't think you could call it terrible. It wasn't distracting, it never detracted from a scene or prevented me from hearing something important. It never took me out of the mood. Most of the time you don't even notice it. That's not bad music, that's just subdued music. The music was there to fill it's purpose and it did. Unlike the trilogy it was never centre-stage, never the focus. In Afterlife, Virmire and throughout ME2 the music is centre stage, loud and designed to set the atmosphere. In Andromeda it's simply in the background. It's not good by any stretch, but I can't call it bad when it was never a focus and I can't even remember it. If it was terrible I'm sure I would remember it. Memorable music has such a big impact on player experience though, to the point where I think it's unacceptable for a game of ME:A's budget and development time to not have EXCEPTIONAL music. You know those pieces of music which you get chills just from listening to without thinking about anything else? Combining them with an appropriate game scene can make for an incredible moment. I really think people seriously underestimate the effect of a amazing soundtrack. Just by subconsciously affecting people's emotions. We aren't all as objective as we think, and I'm sure that some people will have had better experiences with the game if it had been accompanied by excellent music. Even if you want to compare to ME1 which is a similar style of game (exploration, RPG elements) ME1 still does it so much better. The original mass effect theme, vigil, etc. all provide so much more atmosphere. Very few games have "exceptional" soundtracks, particularly triple A games. Because they have other priorities. In fact, I've played less than 10 games, maybe even less than 5 that I'd say had "exceptional" music. Mass Effect 2 is one of them. Mass Effect 1 and 3 are not, or any Dragon Age games for that matter. The two best soundtracks I've heard in gaming came from Child of Light and Transistor. Neither were triple A, quite the opposite, but both focused on the music to an extent that made them exceptional. They put in a lot of effort into those tracks, and in the matter case even tied a game mechanic to them. I'm not saying Andromedas music is good, just that it's not terrible. It's subdued and 'meh'. And while it would obviously have been great if it had been exceptional, It's pretty clear that it was never meant to be.
