As with ME, ME2 and DAI, personal or loyalty missions are not essential to the story and in MEA will not affect the games outcome but do add layers of character, relationship building and depth. The crew members will not have that. They are said to have their own mission but that they will be as deep as Squad missions is very doubtful. Some of you may be fine with having your options limited to the secondary crew members. Understand that many of us are not. All that said I could be completely wrong. Gil could be amazing and have even more content and story relevance that the advisers in DAI. This situation would STILL be problematic and a huge step backwards for the series. In DAI the advisors had personal quests that were just as deep as the squadmate ones and added layers and depth to the characters and built relationships with the protagonist. Just saying. If Gil had equal content to squadmates, in general and in romance, how would that be a huge step back for the series? I get not liking it, but not liking it doesn't make it a huge step back since it would still be more content than Kaidan and Steve got in ME3 combined. This is not DAI and we already know that there is a distinction between Squad loyalty missions and crew member missions. Three guesses as to which will have more content. It is a step back because it would still not be up to par with the other romance options. Kaiden in ME3 as a Squad mate had as much content as the other Squaddies. Gil will likely not have as much content as the Squaddies in MEA. It is a step back because, should the leaks prove true, there would be less meaningful m/m content than in ME3 and DAI. It is a step back because after saying that they could do better there was, leaks holding, a very deliberate decision to do worse than ME3 and exclude gay men from Squad mate status and restrict m/m options to characters that are not as important.

People keep trying to sell us on the NPC romances being just as good, but if we don't get at least one m/m option on the squad-I'm going to be very disappointed. Their opinion on the matter is not mine. This. I really wish everyone would stop telling us what we should be okay with and that it will be alright. IT'S NOT ALRIGHT! Crew members can speak with on the field? GREAT! Stop shipping this and other unsubstantiated promises from Bioware about crew member involvement to try to make this situation seem less fucked than it is. Gil is so important yeah? I could really tell my the overwhelming number of people who bothered to remember his name, Gil ' some guy in the hold' Brodie. We already know that crew members are not going to have the same amount of content. They won't have loyalty missions like Squad members will, which if Bioware is to be believed will be extensive. I hope that those of you hoping for an asexual romance with Kallo find it. I also wanted to point any looking for asexual inclusion to the show 'Shadowhunters' who recently revealed one major character to be asexual in it's second season. The show boasts a diverse cast and characters and they may be adding an asexual romance to the mix.

I genuinely can't see the devs (particularly this dev team) thinking, "Let's make sure that gay Scott has enough options so that a player can unlock this achievement without having to RP a different type of PC......" I'm highly suspecting that they don't give a flip about what sexuality you are playing to unlock the achievement. Their argument would likely be: Achievements are optional and there's nothing stopping you from RPing a different character type if you want to unlock this one. Conveniently though, guess how many squadmate LIs straight guys are very likely going to get... 25.media.tumblr.com/955714548d0765adf957b537151391c6/tumblr_mj5xk0x3jP1qe55cno1_500.gif

If that's true doesn't it also mean that the biased balance of love interests was an intentional decision from the beginning? That is completely unacceptable and I will not forgive them for this. It's not even about not being able to romance who I wanted, the exclusion of m/m romances in the Squad and complete absence of Gil, who's supposedly SOOO important and looking to be the only m/m option of significance, despite the fact the he is voiced by a well known actor while EVERY other member of the Squad and crew were advertised to some extent is just homophobic on it's face. What happened to you Bioware? I'm seriously considering not buying the game on principle. I'll not be treated this way. It's really reaching to suggest actual homophobic intentions behind some game design/marketing decisions, I don't believe anyone really working at Bioware or EA in general is homophobic or hateful. However, are the LGBT romances and gay male romances in particular the lowest priority/importance and often an afterthought for some working at BW/EA? Obviously. The bias of the writers extended well past romances. By the end of Trilogy, Paragon approach was so clearly preferred they basically phoned-in most of the Renegade options giving zero benefits of such playstyle and only punishing the Renegade players. It's really not. The leak provided, if it is at all true which seems likely, stated that leaving out gay male romances from the Squad was an intentional decision. Marketing has featured in some capacity every Squad and crew member with the exception of the one important m/m romance option who is supposedly very important. One does not need to be an astrophysicist to solve this equation.

I know it's a long wait, but once the truth is out, the embargo lifts and the devs can share, then people can ask them about this, but even then, they are not the marketing. Obiwancomeblowme he is tired of it because he can't answer anything even if he wanted to. I'd say that after the game is out and it turns out Jaal isn't bi, then people will show their outrage at the lack of m/m squadmates to the writers, not marketing. Marketing is still responsible for showing off every Squad and crew member with the exception of the one gay man, Gil, voiced by a famous actor. The bias is palpable and should be criticized on both fronts.

I'm really worried to see people transferring their hopes and affections from Liam to Jaal So far the leak from gaycaravaggio has been 100% accurate. Guard your hearts, everyone. Just... be careful. Expect the worst, be excited if that doesn't happen. I'm still hoping my friend's source is wrong on the m/m but.... More and more of the leak is proven right. Corypheus is a major figure in the world. Not buying story DLC was your choice. You could also just watch the DLC on youtube if you don't want to buy it. Seeing that I've bought the game 5 years after release, I don't see why it is not included into the game. DLC are optional, and cannot be played as Stand-alone games, while their price is the same as the base game. I do take issues with that policy, and I think it's unethical to base the plot of the sequel on a DLC. ME3 has Liara simply mention that she did something on her own, referring to Shadow Broker. Anders in DA2 is perfectly lucid without Awakening. But bringing back Hawke, with whom I played for 30 hours, and making that playtime completely irrelevant, because the story revolves around a DLC, I am unfamiliar with, in fact spoiling its events, sucks. I think that many points in your criticism of Inquisition are fair. Blaming the game for working with MAJOR characters in MAJOR story DLC that you chose to avoid is not fair criticism.

Well, I'm a straight black person, so it's already a struggle for me to see how Bioware have already treated the black characters in their game(Vivienne-side chick, Jacob cheats and gets another woman pregnant), but that doesn't mean that I think they should have a full cast of other human races and treat the only white character poorly. I'm not about and never will be about trying to get back at a whole sexual preference or race. I'm not saying that the straight people won't have option, I'm just saying that the crew should be diverse. From Straight to Gay, Sexual to non-sexual people, Right hand - Left hand, Human - Turian, etc. Yes but if Cora were, say, Asian, that means there'd be no white people on the squad... literally. That would actually be kind of cool. It's not like white people struggle to see themselves represented fairly in media. But black and Asian people do. So it's somewhat similar with straight versus LGBT. If everyone on the squad were bi, I don't think any straight person would sit back at the news and wonder "Why does this keep happening? Why is my sexuality not considered valid or worthwhile? Why can I never see myself in the characters I love to play?" I think it's an unfortunate misconception that the basis for diversity must start and stem from straight, white people, as if everyone else just orbits around them in a void waiting to be let in. A group can be diverse and not have white or straight people at all. Not to argue for anyone's exclusion.

I am still playing the Inquisition for the first time, and my opinion does change as the game progress. Currently I am sitting at: 1. I love the Companions/Advisors and their stories so far. They are quite a bit more alive than a lot of the fantasy-games constructs. On the flip-side they do not belong in the medieval setting. But… is it? 2. The setting no longer has anything to do with Origins and Kirkwall Saga. It made a swift move from paying a lip service to the very romanticized Middle Ages (as is a normal approach in every gosh darn fantasy saga) to the nineteenth century pretending it is the sixteenth. I do not mind it being that way, but where are my rapiers and early firearms? 3. The game is schizophrenic. There are snippets of BioWARE story-telling with narrated quests. Then there are a bunch of battle-free (or almost battle-free) talky-talky quests that have infuriatingly huge amount of load screens (War table insanity - do you seriously want me to swing by Orlais, War Table and Josephine each THREE times to resolve her tiny talky-talky quest?). And then there are the mob-grind areas that look like they were sourced out to Koreans or Chinese game-makers. Completely devoid of stories, dialogues and memorable characters. But copious amounts of hard to get around areas (that's where the road to Redcliffe is? SERIOUSLY?) with the ad nausea re-spawning mobs. 4. The character design is schizophrenic as well. No assignment of attributes, downsized class choices ("DA" druids, priests and ranger classes are basically completely gone from Inquisition), and combat that is not visual at all. You don’t see the party, you don’t see the opponents, and it’s the worst of the Origins and Kirkwall Saga rather than the best of. 5. Art is schizophrenic. Area art/outfits is oriental MMO style, an attempt at as pretty as engine-possible. Character/avatar art is terrible. And as much as I am overjoyed that the film grain/stained teeth are no longer a thing, and that we are not dressed in what we were dressed in in Origins/Kirkwall, BioWARE got to decide if we are doing an Oriental MMO style now and commit to it. That applies to avatars, including their hair, eyes and skin. And the height of the darn elves. And the forward protruding heads of the Qunari. I can’t comment on the story of the game yet. So far it was very standard (pick mages or Templars… again), but I was not happy that they borrowed the main villain from a DLC in the second game. I don’t even have that DLCs… Why? To confuse the player? Because the many, many areas of complete irrelevance to the main plot is not sufficient? For Hawke’s cameo? Corypheus is a major figure in the world. Not buying story DLC was your choice. You could also just watch the DLC on youtube if you don't want to buy it.

Well in other news, Rictor, a gay member of the X-Men, had a visible role in 'Logan'. One mutant that resembled Anole, another gay X-Men member, made a cameo as well but he was referred to as 'lizard boy'. I personally hated the movie but Laura(X-23) was amazing in it.

I'm holding out hope that we'll be seeing Gil when we see Suvi. It would be insanity if they introduced every single major character except for the one LGBT guy on the crew. No one can be that tone deaf. So the fact that they confirmed that Suvi will make an appearance pre-release is good new for me, I think. Truly. If it is true that he is the only m/m romance of substance and is conveniently the only crew member absent from marketing then the only conclusion I can come to is bias. Gethin Anthony played a beloved character in a massively successful TV phenomenon. What other reason could there be for he and his character not being advertised like Dormer's and Nanjiani's? Again, nothing is 100% yet but excluding this single character that may be a gay man is just ugly. Currently flexing my twitter muscles should the worst case scenario come to pass. That will be an epic dragging. media.tenor.co/images/22edf71ae304fef43c656b14ff5d8188/tenor.gif

Vetra can't be controversial enough to be honest. I think Suvi is mostly going to be controversial in the religion department. Is she really going to be religious? Ugh, not Ash 2.0! 'Religion' can mean many things in ME. She could be part of an new alien religion we haven't heard about or even converted to whatever the Purple Squid Cobra Cat People Angara faith is, if they have one.

Funny how it's Always the same sex side of the bi romance that is cut....actually that's really sad. Yep and when asked why Solas wasn't made gay instead of straight the response was, We couldn't possibly have two gay romances in one game. And what at utter travesty that would be. media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lhna86IpJy1qdlkgg.gif

Well I guess we could count Dragon Age 2, unless you see the LIs as playersexual. Isabella was used in the trailer. Anders wasn't in Dragon Age Inquisition, but his action caused the game's plot lol. Without Josephine, the Inquisition probably would have had to be in countless battles. I'm hoping Maevaris will be a companion I'm DA4. She may not have been in the games, but she has the comics. I'm a big Dragon Age fan, so I read all of the stuff more than I do for Mass Effect, so I'm counting every Dragon Age piece of literature. Nevertheless, Empress Celene rules all of Orlais, which is makes her important whether she's on screen or not. My issue is that they haven't since gone back to how DA2 has two very plot important bi love interests (Anders, Isabela). It seems like they moved away from that, which worries me. As for Josephine, she's essentially important in theory, but she's barely an entity in relation to the plot. They should have given her character more to work with is all I'm saying. And I agree about Mae. I hope Maevaris is a future companion or at least an important NPC. I would argue that Dorian is plot important. Unlike some romancable companions like Blackwall and Sera, Dorian is impossible to avoid and is integral to a major story point in the game. Trespasser also strongly hints that his story importance will continue and even grow in DA4. Who knows, he may be a sqaudie again. Every subsequent DA game has had Companions or characters that link to the previous. Anders, Isabella and Merrill where all in Origins while Varric and Cassandra were from DA2.

She was the established ruler throughout 2 games and the majority of a third. And depending on player choice she will be again in the 4th. Not to mention all of the comics, novels and extended DA content.

I was in the same boat, I saw a couple os promos and videos for Dragon Age and was really exited for that because you could play as a Murderess City Elf! Although I love sci-fi Mass Effect really never connect for me and I almost skip the series too, till someone told me there was a FemShep. Was marketing for ME1 that bad that you didn't know you could play as a female Shepard? OH YES! LOL! I remember that after playing Mass Effect for the first time after release and joining the forums, the ancient ones before BSN, there were huge debates about it. Me and a few other posters were of the opinion that the lack of that information was detrimental to the games success but others massively disagreed. I recall being yelled at for suggesting that the information AT LEAST be found in the ME website, which it wasn't. You'd think basic information on PC customization in the game's site would be a no brainer. Well, look at how far we have come since then.

Not even that, DAI datamine said that Cullen and Solas were bi, imagine the sadness, I'm just glad I didn't live that :smh: Well by then we had already been told by the devs themselves that they were straight, so people assumed it was a cut romance... which actually was even more infuriating. Funny how it's Always the same sex side of the bi romance that is cut....actually that's really sad.

Hmmm. I saw some stills. Default Scott looks good but something is off for me. Dunno what it is. He's been contaminated by the orange haze.
