The concept by itself as gameplay, visuals and atmosphere goes is straight down my alley. As a BIOWARE game tho? No, it's not what I'd want from them. It's a destiny clone that should have been given to another company not Buoware. And it's creation indirectly caused the failures of Andromeda. Not according to Darrah. "It's everybody else's fault we failed." -- Rallying cry of the SJW propagandist. The irony in that statement.

If Bioware follows their patern, those armors will probably have no color selection available. Sheesh I hope not...though I could see it. Grind the first few hours to unlock customization colors for your toenails.

Would you rather gaming designers charge 100-120$ for their games? That's about fair market value today when you factor in 10 years ago you were paying 50$/game with significantly less development costs. Since gamers want more and more for less companies are force to come up with alternate ways to generate profit. I like the direction. I think they should offer a super deluxe edition at launch for 100$ that makes all day one and future skins free to purchasers...with a couple unique sets as a reward. Let consumers make the choice to go that route or piecemeal their look. I cannot see them giving away all content like that. Maybe give a discount for buying the new skins, but to give everything away like that I just don't see happening for we don't know the price or the model. If they are going to charge $5 per skin per javelin, it could work out to being a massive loss for them and negate the entire system because that might be hundreds if not more dollars of free content for people. They are giving a set of cosmetics that are exclusive to the deluxe edition for $20 more with any additional bonus that might be included. Looks like a standard edition with a preorder bonus skin for Ranger at $60 and deluxe for $80 that includes preorder bonus skins for all rigs and a legendary weapon...so you're pretty close on that $5 mark. Video reviews that and other elements of the game.

Of course better looking is purely subjective. I thought there were plenty of cool outfits found throughout SWTOR...and many of the paid outfits looked ridiculous. If I buy any of those things I will do so because I end up liking the game and want to support its success. Otherwise I'll just play the portions I find enjoyable and if something cool drops, great...if not, I'm sure I'll be able to create a good (enough) look for my suits. What I really mean to say is that one awesome look isn't going to suddenly make a game enjoyable...or vice-versa.
Of course better looking is purely subjective. True. ... to some extent. However, if you look at ME3MP / ME:AMP, notice that at low char levels you got vanity items like simple "red, blue, green" colour changes, whereas with higher char levels you got better options with the skins. Since Bio said MTSx are only for cosmetics. My take is that Bio/EA will have few grinding skins for every char levels and many, many more of them via MTXs.
I thought there were plenty of cool outfits found throughout SWTOR
Never played SWTOR but I take your word for it. On the other hand, that was then. In my view today's monetization greed ensures that "quality items" are few and far between getting them via ingame mechanics.
Well I hope cosmetics are not the primary reason anyone is playing. My real point was that you like the game enough that your look doesn't end up mattering or you're willing to throw a few extra dollars at it. As for greed, EA/Bioware are a for profit enterprise...and the gaming community is just as greedy, constantly demanding more for less. Either gamers need to be willing to pay 120$ for a modern AAA game...or live with these sorts of micro-transactions. At the end of the day no one is forcing anyone to buy a game or pay for extras.

I think the best relationships in any of the Bioware games were the friendships you experience with Wrex and a nonromanced Garrus. If Anthem can create some companions that come anywhere close to those I'll be very satisfied. I would also add Drack to that list for I think he had a stronger start then any other companion, but lacks the time to develop the friendship of those two because they grew over multiple games. That is what I am looking for in the relationships, for to me the romantic relationships felt like the meme of "press x to salute" for romantic relationships. Garrus probably has some of the better dialogue of all characters in the original games for I really liked the conversation where you talk about talking convincing Mordin to not use the cure and tricking the Krogan. Yep, I agree. I would have laughed at the notion that they could create a Krogan more awesome than Wrex but they managed (imo). I also liked the friendship arcs of Cassandra and Dorian in DAI. Hell maybe they're just better at writing the friendships because the romances have become obligatory...and end up feeling contrived.

Do you mean because you don’t think the free grinding options won’t be as good, or because you don’t like people having the option to spend money instead of time grinding?
Yes.
Monetization incentives means that its stuff must be better looking and with a better selection. I will be un-surprised if grinding for vanity items is tied to level progression. Add low percentages for high quality vanity item drops and there is the incentive to "just buy the thing".

I have always found Bioware's loot systems across their games pretty awful...finding them almost entirely filled with useless junk that clutters the inventory...with the "good stuff" locked behind DLC purchases. Huh? Did you not play DAI SP campaign? Tons of great loot/gear without DLC. And I don't mean just OP stuff like the Bosun's Blade. I mean storied weapons and armor with meaty lore behind them. Like the Bane of Red Crossing, Tyrdda's Staff, Rebuke of the Sunderland, and who could forget the Wedge of Destiny? Okay, the armor of the main game wasn't so great, got better with DLCs, but still. I guess it was okay, but by the time I got around to unlocking/finding those items I'd already crafted something better...and you still ended up constantly having to sell off useless junk. And yes the armors were horrid. I thought TW3 was better (though still plenty of crap) but you seemed to constantly find progressively better gear...and it looked good too.

Awesome thread, OP. MEMP was fun. MEAMP was considerably less fun to me. Destiny seems to be about collecting these ball things. Haven't got my head around what would be good for Anthem. Ugh, I hated the randomness of the RNG store in both MEMP games...though ME3 was by far less annoying (I have 115 respec packs for MEAMP! - W. T. F.) Didn't play Destiny so I'm unfamiliar with how it worked. What I hope it is not...is mindless grinding to eventually obtain the items most useful for my play style. If I'm to be honest I'm not really sure the best way to do that given many players' desires conflict with one another.

I guess that makes sense. So maybe some unique options only available through the deluxe purchase. Can I get some optical camouflage like the Predator wears? I would buy it if it comes with those sounds.

I have always found Bioware's loot systems across their games pretty awful...finding them almost entirely filled with useless junk that clutters the inventory...with the "good stuff" locked behind DLC purchases. With micro-transactions limited to cosmetic skins will we finally find good, or at the very least useful, loot in the world? What kind of system do you anticipate seeing? What would you like to see? For that matter what are the elements that make a loot system good...and how do you balance it in a coop game? Could a system that analyzes and gives items based on your play style and existing inventory be implemented to make the rewards more satisfying to individual players rather than relying on randomness? Please discuss, I'm curious how others view such.

5$ seems a bit excessive for skins...I was thinking more like 1-2$ per. Relative to the game itself or planned expansions, how hard is it to churn out appearances for our Javelins? I suppose it depends on the quantity of skins involved. That said, we'd be dropping an extra 30$ sight unseen...assuming a 70$ price point at release. It really depends for these cosmetics are instead of lootboxes and normally a lootbox was $1 to unlock and people were claiming they were willing to pay more for cosmetics if they could pick exactly what they were getting. I am expecting them to be on the more expensive side and can always be surprised with them being lower in price then I anticipated. I guess that makes sense. So maybe some unique options only available through the deluxe purchase. Can I get some optical camouflage like the Predator wears?

Yours is a fair question for sure but would mean a little more had Bioware not squandered their - not inconsiderable - budget for ME:A. But yes - not to duck the question - I absolutely support the idea of sometimes paying a little more (and in some cases a little less) for the games that I play. I wouldn't exactly say they squandered their (adequate...at least relative to TW3) budget, but it does sound like the first couple years had some leadership and in-fighting issues. I think the bigger problem with how Bio has operated in the past comes down to "biting off more than they can chew." Being ambitious is great but good leaders understand their resources, what is realistically achievable, and allocate appropriately. I'd say they just need to prioritize better. Anthem may be following that trajectory. If it succeeds the way they hope, they can add many of those secondary elements people have grown accustom to in Bioware games.

That micro-transactions in Anthem are limited only to cosmetics is a positive development for sure but hardly reason enough to be jumping for joy. Indeed - for me - the prospect of being asked to pay for the privilege of customizing my Javelins is still mighty disappointing. Would you rather gaming designers charge 100-120$ for their games? BioWare has a long history of attracting Cosplay. Have you ever tried it? And are we going to get a spate of good to rather bad exosuits at conferences? Nope, never have. I always thought it would be fun to try but don't know anyone who does...and I'm getting a little long in the tooth. Probably not many options for a lanky graybeard such as myself anyway.

Snip I dislike any content (in the general sense of locations, enemy models, storyline, that stuff) being locked out from a soloist. Even in previous games, one can technically solo any Firebase map (even if on Bronze), Thedas map, or even dragon fight (right?). Just at lower difficulty setting.
I believe the game is designed to make money via online purchases. Take the fact that medium and above enemies are damage soakers. Crafting better gear may requires the player to stock up on a few items which your initial "storage chest" is too small.... guess what happens next? You pay real money to increase the size of your storage chest or grind/play some more at lower levels in the hope of finding a larger chest.... larger chests may only drop for higher level players.....etc.
Lower difficulty may be an unwanted game design from a monetization viewpoint... imo. It's a good question to ask, though.
That has already been answered given that they have unequivocally stated that the only micro-transactions will be cosmetic skins...which is a perfectly acceptable approach.

I don't think I've seen anyone wanting to boycott the game for that reason, do you have a source or is that hyperbole? I've seen a few disappointed people saying it kills their interest, but the follow-up news from BioWare suggests to me that the game will still contain meaningful relationships. "Deep friendships lol. More like they want to woo people who think murdering people in games is fab but characters expressing feelings is icky. The lack of romances is a pretty huge red flag for me when it comes to rpgs as it’s a fundamental human element which you’d want in rpg character building."
This is one of the first respond on this post. And it has dozens of likes. I dont know about you but term "huge red flag" is basically saying "hell no, f*ck you, i will not buy your crap" and that lol after "deep friendship" speaks volumes about mentality of "fans" like him.
I think the best relationships in any of the Bioware games were the friendships you experience with Wrex and a nonromanced Garrus. If Anthem can create some companions that come anywhere close to those I'll be very satisfied.

LOL It wouldn’t be a properly Bioware forum without this thread With that said... sure bring it on, show us some hairstyles! :Long wavy hairdos for once and I might actually buy it! D Of course, you could equally say it wouldn't be a Bioware game without terrible hair options...or 14 variations of bald. Although MEA was bit better...or should I say a hair better.

That was something that really struck me in the gameplay trailer. Not only does the world look gorgeous but feels alive. This is a radical departure from the static, mostly lifeless regions of DAI and MEA...and a major element to being able to immerse myself in the world.

All I want to know is if I can give my Javelin a Mohawk made of long metal spikes:)
Edit: Of course that means I'll have to thrown on some Sex Pistols and pay homage to our UK friends while wrecking stuff. Ooh, I wonder if I'll be able get some head-butting action.
