Weird. I realize it's about balancing but I wonder what piece of (convoluted) logic they come up with for that. Some sort of IFF that can only be adapted to the Ranger? I know, I know...just roll with it. Javelins are all handcrafted. From what I gathered the people don't fully understand the tech. Add some guild thinking and superstition and you have a foundation for why only Rangers can be fitted with grenades. 😎 So in other words

I've no interest in micromanaging my party at each encounter. That's exactly what I do want. And I want the combat to go slowly enough that I can see everything that's happening, even in large battles. Maybe we could have a combat speed slider or something. Well, I guess your largely stuck with Origins. You'll not be seeing that in AAA gaming anytime soon. With budgets being what they are they have no choice but to market to the broader player preference.

No real preference as long as they're interesting to interact with. I think Calpernia is a given. Harding or Charter possibly...I'd pick Charter just because I feel I already know everything I need to know about Harding. Any returning companions would probably be as cameos or quest-givers...those I could see: Dorian, Iron Bull, Sera, and maybe Cole. Though if none return I'm good with that too.

DAO was about the worst combat I've ever seen...and I've no interest in micromanaging my party at each encounter...though I do appreciate the ability to setup tactics for companion AI. DAI arguably had the best system...it's fun stems from the sheer variety of playstyles and builds. Oddly, I think I find DA2 combat the most satisfying. Sure it was over-the-top, but it was that ridiculousness that was crazy fun...particularly playing rogues and mages. A well timed backstab as an enemy lunged at you was wholly satisfying...and a fully upgraded walking bomb made quick work of those endless mobs.
So I guess a marriage between DA2 and DAI.

I notice the hype train is 5 pages and the anti hype is 25 Welp...sigh, this is BSN. That would probably hold true even if this was a "traditional" Bioware game. Just wait 'til we're closing in on DA4 and you'll see the discussions will lean toward what it doesn't have rather than focusing on what it does. Even with minimal information the mob will proclaim the end is nigh.

Well it would be a first in the series, but, yes my preference is to continue with the Inquisitor. However, I do not think it happens. Mainly I do not see them doubling up on voice actors again for the game. My guess is (maybe) a cameo with us mainly working through intermediaries...perhaps even a companion such as Harding or Charter. Regardless I will play.

I'd actually lay good money on it being fewer. Six if someone held my feet to the fire to put a number on it. It would be nice if the other companions did things if you did not take them with you. Like gathering stuff for you to use in crafting. It bugged that they did nothing in DAI. Inquisitor says to Vivienne: "I need you to stop standing around politicking and go to the Hinterlands. We're short on blood lotus and elf root. Otherwise, you can report to Sera for community service."

Story = 40% (including companion and RPG elements that allow me a consistent voice). Gameplay = 40% (specifically a deep combat system with varied enemies to keep things fresh). Graphic = 15% (nice graphics are...well, nice...but I can concede a bit if my first priorities are top notch). Other mix issues (bug & other) = 5% (As long as these are not game-breaking I can put up with the occasional bug).
EDIT: Replay value is another big one...whether following different permutations of story elements or different combat mechanics (ideally both). This usually comes with the first two priorities on my list.
Also 3rd person combat mechanics is pretty much a must for me as 1st person just messes with me.
I would probably rename this thread to something like "what core elements do you value that increases your likelihood of an enjoyable experience" (I know, a mouthful). It doesn't necessarily follow that a game lacking my preferences qualifies as bad...or is good because it meets my requirements. Beauty, after all, is in the eye of the beholder.

I have a fairly similar setup running on a 32" monitor at 2560x1440...same results in MEA on ultra settings. I doubt the recommended specs will exceed what you're rolling with so you should be good to go. I'm gonna preorder the LoD edition too but probably only a week or two before launch...there's no real reason to rush since all the goodies are digital and there's no real incentive for EA/Bio to restrict the number of special edition downloads. It could be different where I am, but EA won't take the money from my credit card until February and if I pre-order early enough I will get benefit of the VIP access. Well how early is early? I wouldn't mind VIP access (I'm assuming that means a week early).

Is this the thing where they hinted on when they said they were going to release more story? Let's just hope not so much they ruin it. I hated DAI's carpet bombing approach...much of the story was spoiled as were some of the companions. I'd just like some basic stuff on how we navigate our personal hub and how it segues into story bits...and a look at how dialogue works (simple as it may be). Also a demonstration on how we customize our Javelins...maybe a bit about how we setup for public/private matches.

To put it bluntly, there's a vocal crowd that believes Anthem has strayed so far from old-school Bioware, or that it emulates other games so much, that it deserves to fail. A vocal minority to be sure...too much credence is given to those few simply because they cry the loudest. And to answer this thread, no. Anthem with succeed or fail for what it is..."traditional" Bioware fans will have a negligible impact.

Confirmation that there is no cover system in the game and that the emphasis is on the various movement modes. Reddit comment by Ben Irving (one of the Lead Producers) Which is an appealing part of the game to me...which make their decision to litter the field with pickup orbs for health/ammo/rares a bit perplexing. That stuff just slows down progression on a mission...and is potentially an annoyance for team mates wanting to push forward while that one person wants to comb the battlefield making sure they didn't miss that "all-important" orb or some obscure glyph. I'd rather see an auto collect function implemented at each stage of progression...or even just awarding stuff at the end of the mission. This is probably the one thing I've seen thus far I'm not too thrilled with.

I would assume that either you pick the mission difficulty in the way ME3/A MP's did, or you set the desired difficulty and it match-makes you accordingly with randoms. If you role with gamer friends that shouldn't be too much an issue since you're usually rolling with like-minded people. I'm competitive with myself...so it doesn't matter to me whether I play with other competitive people (but not the angry, screamer types) or casuals or newbs.
