We're usually in agreement, but it looks like crap to me. Other than the environmental graphics. But every game has that now. I get the feeling it'll be exploration heavy like DAI. The fact that Aaryn Flynn is gushing over No Man's Sky too makes it worse. It's like their idea of Mass Effect was hopping on one of those worlds in ME1 and running into a Prothean Orb or pyramid. Except this is a detailed way of going about it. Except it's shit, detailed or not. That was never fun to me. That's not Mass Effect to me. Mass Effect is rogue spectres, space cops, and thugs. Simple. This other stuff was just dressing. Not the center. I'm really hoping the interesting part of No Man's Sky to them was just the part about seamlessly exploring planets and space. I can't remember, did he gush over NMS before or after release? Because he might not have known how shit it would be beforehand, and just liked what was shown. I am worried that it will be another DA:I wander the empty landscape doing nothing kind of thing though. Hopefully they take more lessons from Witcher 3 than NMS. That game had a lot of exploration, but I always felt like I had an interesting quest going on while I did it, so it didn't become a drag like in DA:I. Quest-driven exploration I think works much better with the space opera genre than aimless wandering.

The holographic galaxy maps are indeed getting a bit old. Stop with the holographs 2016 What type of an improved galaxy map display do you suggest as a replacement? How would you improve it? Are there other games that do a better job without a holographic display? In the 4K Playstation vid we see the hologram of the Helios Cluster with a very nice 3D appearance, a vast improvement from the Normandy's 2D top-down map of the MW galaxy. I'm excited over the graphics from what we're seeing so far.

He sounded pretty familiar with it though. It was linked here, but not sure where now. It was on a German gaming site, I think.

I woke up today and viewed the 4K video a fifth time, and for some reason it looks even better today. Also, I never played Halo or Borderlands (and I don't want to), so thankfully, the whole vaults concept isn't old news to this gamer. <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> I watched Sony's Live Stream and Flynn's MEA video showcase. Not impressed. Then I realized it wasn't streamed in 4k. The downloadable Mass Effect: Andromeda official 4K tech Video is awesome looking.... except for the last section with Ryder. That gameplay was with a regular console.... the graphics are clearly not 4k, imo.

The moment Aaryn says if you're not watching on a 4K screen, find one and come back, I was like, yeah, sure. No. I have no reason to purchase a 4K tv even though I could buy one now.
I'm not really exited about the game. I will preorder the game, as I've posted before, but that's more due to hearing/seeing what the explanation of the how/why/when the ships leave for Andromeda

Quest-driven exploration I think works much better with the space opera genre than aimless wandering. <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> Flynn definitely said the Pathfinder needs to explore and take on quests. That Ryder needs to start the colonization process and to solve a Galactic Mystery. This begins the critical path of the story. No two ways about it. Exploration is a prime activity to discover and obtain better tech and gear. That holographic map showed us at least 32 planets with Regular Remnant Vaults that contain artifacts, materials, gear and some Keys that can unlock the entrance to Elite Remnant Vaults located somewhere in space. The latter is a much much tougher fight to survive but come with better rewards. On top of the sentry robots, the Elite Vaults also contain Khet and pirates looking for the same thing we are (info from Leak). What I hope is that the Tempest's Helius cluster map, that shows you each planet (see 1st video), also gives you the location of the Vaults. We select the planet, drop on the surface, fire up the Mako and arrive at the vault location. Further surface exploration is optional. Remember, this is a New Story with New Characters. MW galactic civilization, the Alliance, Omega, the Citadel and everything else we may love and want to see are no more.

After watching the trailer 3 times, it has killed any last hope for this game for me. The shreksari proves Bioware couldn't draw or animate aliens if their life depended on it. The really stupid looking armor designs, 9 light bulbs on the protagonist suit providing no functionality, the 2 belts hanging hanging off butt. The hold to raise bridges "gameplay". So far everything I've seen points to DA:I levels of failure. Then again, I'm a cynical grumpy oldfart, I don't expect opinions like mine to be in majority. If you can get enjoyment out of DA:I, good on you. You defending DA2 points to low standards for games, so there's strong possibility for that happening.

Well, who am I speak. I bought No Man's Sky... The guy at the game store yesterday told me about that game. He went to a friends house and played it. He told me everything that was said by the developers was wrong. He said it seems the developers were out to make a quick buck. I don't see that happening with Andromeda. But I could be wrong. I'm still preordering the game and if it does poorly, oh well. My loss.

A virtual bits of 0s and 1s? If there's one thing I absolutely hate, it's Mondays. Ugh. I'm just not excited about it coming out, that's all. What are the things Aaryn Flynn put emphasis on in his comments to the short video. Frostbite engine. 4K. HDR support. Seeing characters up close in a cutscene. Of those things, which features were not implemented in DA:I, with a Metacritic user score 5.8, that I agree with - a thoroughly mediocre game. HDR support. Yeahhhhhh.. The chest-height walls to sit behind and pew pew now have glowing lights on them. The character can jump a tiny bit higher than DA:I because of jet pack. It could be the most amazing game ever made, sure, but Bioware is going to far lengths to hide it so far then.

You could be right, but it seems to me that you're commenting more on the general look of the gameplay and this demo probably isn't the best thing to make those judgements on, since they've clearly chosen something that will make Sony's new HDR and 4K capabilities look good, and little else. This demo was nice for showing off how the game looks in low-light environments, and it threw in some characters at the end to appease fans, but it's clearly more of a technical HDR/4K thing than a 'look at how cool our game is' thing.

One thing I hope this game won't have, at least for very long, is aliens speaking in an alien language to me. Shi abu gabkan takla makla bandi tae.
Ugh. I can't stand that. If they make a universal translator as part of the crafting system, I'm gonna make that first. I don't care if I have weapons from four centuries ago. If I can't understand you, nuh-uh.

I don't have anything against corridors. In DAI, about the only thing I liked was the Fallow Mire. The rest is shit. It's the only thing that plays like a game. Which I'm afraid they've slowly lost sight of. I'm afraid for it here, with all the gushing about exploration. Yeah, Fallow Mire was good but I also thought Crestwood was good and showed Bioware could do a reasonable job of storytelling in an open environment. Unfortunately the other several areas were just empty areas lacking in much of interest and you just grind and grind and grind in combat. And I too am super worried at all the exploration talk. I think Bioware should stick to a balance of combat and storytelling and can do a good job if they don't subscribe to more is better...because it's only better if the story elements are paced well with the combat. Exploration should really be nothing more than an optional side venture separate from the main storyline. The way to make exploration fun is to have each environment have it's own little story in the way Crestwood had. Ι do not get the hate towards DaI as with trespasser the ga me is simpy epic but anyway: you areright about crestwood, if only all the zones were like crestwood. i hope ME:A tries to "crestwood" if it will be open spaces

Maybe it just came too little, too late for me. Although I have to acknowledge it's better than the other DLC's and base game. It used to be that when Bioware released a major piece of DLC for a game I'd start a new playthrough to experience the content with a fresh character, but the base game is simply too big and too lackluster to do that. Part of me believes with all the complaints about DAI that MEA's open areas and side content has to be considerably improved, but the past 3 years they've focused on talking up the Mako and how great exploration is going to be, and that makes me anxious because I do not think you can achieve good story balance while wandering around various environments...regardless of how pretty they may be.

Count me among the very nervous regarding the open world exploration focus. DAI had a grindy open world devoid of the story content to support it. I'll probably end up purchasing the game but nothing so far has wowed me, whilst from the stupid Asari to the exploration have worried me.

Too far away to get excited yet, especially considering we hardly know what type of game it's going to be at all.
I'll wait until they drop dets on N7 Day before I get excited.

<<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> Hm... To be fair, the studio has every right to design their own game and tell stories their own way. Take your Shrek Asari, for example. I envision the writers coming up with a new Asari personality. Not jaded, not experienced but that of a teenager trying to find out who she is. The Ninja mask could be part of her rebellious streak, maybe also a playful one. The 4K tech Video version of her is improved. She may not look like what you want to see, but is Bio obligated to cater to your wishes?
