Do you really need to land a spaceship to use the Mako?
Really Bio? Get your shyte together.
The concept art shows only two landing struts. Just two to balance a long cigar? Also, the Tempest is poised to drop a load. Not very flattering. Maybe the landing lift should drop to the rear?
For a science fiction game with high tech a specialized planet landing shuttle is more apropos.
Oh, well, let's hope Bio has time to make minor corrections.

<<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> Do you really need to land a spaceship to use the Mako? Really Bio? Get your shyte together. Honestly, I think the ship looks super frigging cool on the ground, so I'm perfectly happy that she'll be landing fairly often--means we'll have a base to work from on every planet, too, and opens up the possibility of writing in scenes like this: Besides, the fact that the ship can - and will - land doesn't necessarily preclude the possibility of a Mako drop, should the situation call for it...

Given that I don't see the Mako I don't think that's fair to say especially since there's crates around which means a fair likelier reason is that they were unloading or loading cargo.

Funny, in that pic it looks smaller for some reason. I guess the ship is pretty far away.

It's not very elegant is it?? It's nowhere near as sleek as the Normandy.

That is why we have landing shuttles. The Tempest is not a bloody cargo ship. Next thing you'll see the ARKs landing.
It's a pet peeve of mine that spaceships stay in space and specialized attack shuttles or cargo shuttle for planetary landings.
I really doubt, though, that we will see this in the game. It's just concept art.

Funny, in that pic it looks smaller for some reason. I guess the ship is pretty far away. Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's some major forced perspective going on in the picture. That said, I suppose we won't really know for sure how big the ship is until we get a look at the inside, or at least a shot of someone standing next to it. (Without any weird perspective stuff going on.)

It's just concept art. Why would it have to be a cargo ship to land? It's a pretty small spaceship, all things considered, and it's not like spaceships - on that scale and substantially larger - operating within atmosphere hasn't pretty much always been a thing in the Mass Effect universe. The designers - in-universe and at BioWare - apparently decided that having a ship that could land on a planet, and then act as a base, made sense for what we'd be doing in Andromeda. And it's definitely not just concept art. Hell, it's not even the only shot we have of Tempest on the ground:

But we probably will as it doesn't seem to have any vertical thrusters to jump back to the ship. There are 4 struts. 2 on the main body of the ship and 2 on the back "wings".

The size thing looks like it's probably just a composition/perspective issue. Personally, I don't mind that it's capable of landing on planets, even if space-ships are meant to like... stay in space. I like the idea of an adaptive, light, multipurpose ship that we can use as a mobile base of operations. Additionally, I really like the design. I'm excited to get a closer look.

(Also super into the black/white/red paint.) Certainly helps distinguish it from Normandy, at least, in spite of the similar shape.

Maybe the new Mako does not have the propulsion system to help with that air drop the M-35 Mako did on ME1. Or it's time for a little shore leave to all the Tempest's crew.
Also the Ship looks smaller than the Normandy-SR2, my guess is the size is similar to the SR1.

Thanks for the pic. The more I see our new ship, the more I like it. I remember seeing EA PLAY trailer and thinking it reminds me of a sword And I would actually like if it was 'smaller'. Yup, same! And as for the size, honestly, I'm just generally not fussed. Before we got a good look at it, I was angling for maybe something bigger than the Normandy - note the big ol' girl in my signature for my preferred starship scale - but now we've seen the ship, I've come to really like the design, and whatever size it is will work for the sort of things BioWare have decided we'll be doing aboard/with the ship over the course of the story. I've also got absolutely no problem with it landing on the regular, as it means we'll essentially have a home/research base on every uncharted world we visit. I think it makes more sense for the size/design, anyway--if they'd put a shuttle aboard, with the pre-requisite shuttle facilities - big landing bay with room to do repairs and so on - they probably would've had to make the ship bigger. And the prominent aerodynamic control surfaces make much more sense on a ship designed to spend a significant amount of time operating within atmosphere.

It looks like a bigger, sleeker version of Star Citizen's Anvil Carrack, which is also an exploration ship with a rover on board. Despite being probably much bigger than the Carrack (a 123m ship with a crew of 5) it somehow manages to look smaller. Must be a perspective thing. It does look quite elegant in flight!
