I would agree that it would take less fuel. However, what wouldn't take less fuel is breaking the planet's atmosphere, dropping off the mako, flying back up to orbit and then just sitting there with the stealth systems engaged. It's kind'a like the frontiers. And I hate to use that word, for all but some of its simpler ramifications. We don't want anybody to know that we're here, until we've made a galactic assessment of the situation.

<<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> Do you really need to land a spaceship to use the Mako? Really Bio? Get your shyte together. The concept art shows only two landing struts. Just two to balance a long cigar? Also, the Tempest is poised to drop a load. Not very flattering. Maybe the landing lift should drop to the rear? For a science fiction game with high tech a specialized planet landing shuttle is more apropos. Oh, well, let's hope Bio has time to make minor corrections. I assume the same complaint was made in ME1, where the SR1 had to do all of the heavy lifting on Virmire, since there was no shuttle to speak of, not to mention that in any other location where we weren't dropping in a Mako, the entire ship would dock, even if it was a hostile planet, like Feros, where the geth could have easily started firing on the Normandy while it sat there in the dock.

Not true, actually, because that way you'd need 2 trips; one to drop of the Mako, and one to pick it up. So it's still more fuel than simply landing and waiting for the Mako to return before departing the planet.

Starship Kinetic Barriers are designed to stop projectiles fired from enemy warships, measuring in many kilotons worth of TNT per shot. Assault rifles or shoulder fired missile launchers wouldn't do squat.

If the tempest is "parked" on the planet while Ryder and squad are exploring for whatever, I guess that means the rest of the squad stays behind and act as security detail in case some baddies decide to show up to cause problems. Or would the tempest take flight and fire at the baddies instead? I wouldn't mind seeing something like that.
I could also see the tempest providing cover fire for the mako while it gets away from a large number of forces that have attacked it.
One thing though. Was the tempest built for going to Andromeda? Does it have technology that the ships we see in ME3 don't have? If so what would the explanation be for that?

Does it have technology that the ships we see in ME3 don't have? If so what would the explanation be for that? I'm certainly hoping we will be able to call it in for close air support occasionally. In fact, that could be a system similar to DA:I's Focus abilities. Perhaps we could even select from a few weapon systems. I'd guess yes, but I don't think anyone knows at this point. Presumably, it has the same upgraded eezo core the Ark-ships have to have (that solve the discharge problem, otherwise they couldn't go to another galaxy) and that the Reapers had. But an explanation? There can't be a satisfying one, I don't think, as to why this and other fancy tech wasn't used in the war effort.

The Tempest looks so awesome and sleek in this shot: As for the image in the OP, I'm not a fan. That underbelly just looks terrible. I'm hoping that it is much smaller in the actual game. I'd like the size of Tempest to be somewhere between the SR1 and SR2. Both had a crew of about 20 and the latter had 13 squamates on top of that. For MEA's purposes I don't see the need for a crew of that size. Probably the most that will be needed is around 10.

Indeed. I'd want at least something for defense when driving the Mako, be it a tank cannon, machine gun, or laser cannon. <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> Well, we know we don't have one. I speculate that the level designs are such that the Mako will not encounter any danger per se. If were are indeed given this "unprecedented level of freedom", perhaps it also applies taking a stroll with the Mako.... knowing no danger will manifest itself we can relax and enjoy the views.

We Don't know yet, that is a supposition based in the lack of any external gun like the M-35.

If you look at them, those ARK engines are giganticus and purpose built for Intergalactic travel.

If that's true it would be strange to say the least, not to mention annoying. <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> True. I remember that as well. Also, it was either Mac or Aaron that said the make is to get you from point A to point B quickly and made no mention of any defensive / offensive capabilities.

Having the mako without any defenses is bad. Looking at the new mako, I doudt it can have a large cannon because of the weight. I could see a small cannon like a 25mm like what the M2/3 Bradley has. Or have some kind of gatling gun something like the M134 GAU 17 "Vulcan". Very good weapon

Tempest design reminds me of another glorious flying machine.
Fitting too if ManRyder can travel the Andromeda galaxy in it going "where no man has gone before"( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Slick and a much needed shot to finish earlier posts about the landing capability of the craft. Srsly though, it looks really cool and, if i remember the inner dimensions of the original Normandy, on par, if maybe a little smaller. This makes sense since the SR-1 was an experimental craft and there might have been some design implementations that were required by the Turians during its make. Also, fits well with Ryder having "ownership" of it. With such a small, now common craft, you don't need an extra special rank to captain it.

I just hope that each member of the crew has their own quarters or proper place to rest instead of always standing around somewhere.
