What should the Mass Effect movie be about?

Other: it should remain a game.

+1  Figure it would be a great start into the ME Universe, since this is humanity's first encounter with alien life forms; rife with politics, war, and space-magic.  Also, wasn't Jack Harper involved prior to him becoming TIM?

Reaper War aftermath could be a way to reset the Milky Way for future game projects without the risk and expense of making a game to bridge that gap. The problem would be engaging an audience without assuming familiarity with the original trilogy.

I think a movie would have to start at the beginning (as Julie Andrews would endorse) in order to lay the setting and story down for a big enough audience to make it worth shooting. That movie should be steered as far as possible from the game fanbase. It could be called: "Mass Effect--This Isn't Your Shepard".

I didn't want to piss on a new thread in the first post, so I waited on this for a bit. The poll needs the "There shouldn't be a movie" option. People were primed and ready to hate whatever was released post-ME3. Creating a movie cannot go well.

I think it should be a Blasto movie.

I'm with you on this, they'll never be able to make a movie that the fans are happy with no matter what they chose to go with.  Even casting a Shepard and choosing between male and female will cause a shitstorm.

If they did do it I'd agree with akrabra and go with the first contact war.  As he said it'd only be two races, you wouldn't have the Shepard problem and it'd be a manageable endeavour.  Also a good primer for those new to the series.

But for me, no movie at all.  Video game movies are usually utter tosh.

I don't know; even without all the division it would cause once they cast a bunch of annoying dipsh*ts nobody likes as characters we love, has there ever been a decent game movie? I'd rather they leave this series alone. They'll never get it right.

Anything but the main story with our central characters, if I had to choose at all. But my preference is that any movie remain some fool's rough draft that's being used to prop up a coffee table.

More often than not video game movies are rather shite, it's an ongoing discussion I have with a buddy (we both agree that the 95 MK movie is the best example), so for an ME move to do ok, I'd have to say bring it right back to the beginning, incorporating the First Contact war, as well as before & after would be the best in my opinion, but portrayed from the eyes of some other soldiers, not the big names we know from the franchise.

Ah, yes, "the Mass Effect movie."

I ticked ME1 first and then changed my mind (First Contact War now) because I realised I don't want my sense of who Cdr Shepard is disrupted by some drawling bland bloke running around in an action caper.

I don't know why anyone's bothered or paranoid of Shepard ever being used.

100% of every expanded media in the ME universe don't involve Shepard at all. (Discounting Mass Effect Redemption which only deals with the corpse of Shepard).
