Name one that doesn't include negative history, and I'll show you one that has been romanticized. And yes, I include less/unorganized religion. EDIT: This isn't 'religion' exclusive though. It is, however, arguably more connected to religion than many other concepts. I'm not sure what that has to do with either of our points. My only point is that one can have spiritual beliefs, practices, etc. - including a belief in a creator god (as Suvi expresses) - without ascribing to any historical religion, or really anything else that anyone else might believe. That's not religion. I never said Suvi was religious. I disagree with those who say she's religious. She's deist, perhaps, in calling creation force 'God', but that's all I detect. If she starts believing 'like others do' or vice versa, about this, then gets religious. Like if say, Ryder and Suvi start not just agreeing, but agreeing on what is the truth they should be organizing to agree on. But this also never happens in MEA. She's technically creationist but with only the barest connection to the majority of contemporary creationists who presume (or outright insist) on a theological creator (that being that she calls it 'God' like they do). It is pseudoscientific at best, but I'm grateful she acknowledges that it is but her personal inspiration to pursue science, not the influence she must make on it. Its her life, not her control over others.

^^ That's been my position all along.
She has some sort of faith/beliefs in a creator god, but I see no indication that she ascribes to any particular religion (as we tend to think of it).

No particular. I never said she did. 'God' taken seriously is an explicitly religious concept though. Not that I care - we carry religious concepts with us all the time, even majority of the non-religious people. My earlier point was just about religion itself. It is organized or un/disorganized. Still religion either way, and still open to similar scrutiny, as 'organized' and 'unorganized' is a qualifier by vague degrees. It has organization in it by definition, even in the private/family/cult/town/weekly brunch/mix of chat groups/etc sense. By any indications, Suvi is minimally religious, if practically at all. So I was more responding to your opinion than about MEA ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/KGsHESiZGZU0pPuHuhQr.png)

I've known people who were 'religious' about their day-to-day rituals, despite being atheists. If one uses this particular definition of religion: a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons, one could conceivably call a group of scientists pursuing a similar goal 'religious'. I don't think that one individual's personal beliefs or experiences meet any definition of religion - though a set of practices might. In any case, I don't see much value to this conversation.

Yeah that's a uselessly vague definition to me, except in casual slang, we already have many words for that. Farewell.

Sigh. Take a breath. I know it is Andromeda related still...however: The old debate of Science and Religion is not as one sided as many would hope. There are many views: Those who believe in creation/creator and don't accept science. Those who believe in science and don't accept creation/creator. Those who believe neither science or a creator/creation. Those who believe in both science and a creation/creator.
Unless all are equally and unbiased expressed then there is mute point of continuing. Equally and unbiased is something that when it comes to topics such as these no one is usually willing to show. -Without it getting usually very heated.
...Still isn't this better suited to the Off-topic forum?
