Actually I am older and the sheer darkness of ME3 bothered me more than the joking in Andromeda. ME3 is so serious and dark starting with Earth being basically devastated right away, not mid or end of game. I myself have no problem in roleplaying a younger self and Ryder is competent enough. Wish you had more options to punch a few people though. No one has mentioned Guardians of the Galaxy which is also pretty absurd and Ryder could be like Star Lord. I never had the feeling of ME3 being dark let alone too dark. It told a dire story, but there was a lot of lighter moments, such as the crew really roaming the ship and engaging in activities together. Playing cards, entering into a contest of telling outrageous stories. Drunk Ashley or Tali. Javvik starting to give a speech on the Citadel of everyone being doomed, before being interrupted by Shepard. Javvik destroying Liaras enthusiasm over protheans by stating he was amazed that Asari had finally mastered the art of writing. A few little side missions, such as Kasumi showing up to hunt the Hanna saboteur. (of course you needed her DLC for that to happen) I see a red tube and I want it painted black No colours anymore, I want them to turn black I see the Starchild walk by dressed in his sparkly clothes I have to turn my head until my darkness goes I see a line of synthetics and they're all painted black With DNA and my love, both never to come back I see people turn their heads and quickly look away Like a Synthesis, it just happens everyday No more will my control rods turn a deeper blue I could not foresee this thing happening to you With apologies to the Rolling Stones

So I never got to see the Starchild in the first place.

You ever watch Firefly? That was the aim. Joss Whedon-style banter writing. But when they had to be serious in Firefly they were serious. When Mal and the crew came and found Shepard and all the people dead ME:A would have had Ryder or someone cracking a joke. Everything became serious after that, and other times when it needed to. The crew also had a range of personalities. You had Zoe/Simon all the way to Jayne. Pretty much everyone in ME:A was on Jayne's side of the line. What was asked is what the aim was. I never said they hit it. Hell, Firefly is overrated as a show anyway because most of its characters were really one-note (River ugh I hate her) anyway, so it was probably a bad idea to double down on it a bit.

In all seriousness though, this game is 18+ so no one under that should be playing it That is the point. A very large proportion of the people BioWare seem to be aiming this game at can't even buy the game. Financial suicide!

Hehe, it's the sad fact of getting older, realizing the vast majority of entertainment and pop culture is not made for you. Most is aimed at the coveted 18-25 group. Still, the average gamer age is supposed to be around mid 30s nowadays, and DAI had an older cast. I'm sure they do have to think about attracting new and younger audiences though. I'm curious as to your source on the average gamer age being mid 30s, if you have a link. I'm guessing it's much older, just based on Baldur's Gate (1998) which I see a lot of users here list as having played. If mid 30s is the case, then I was playing a video game (Pong) on a console (Telstar) before any of those were born (1978) - must be on my 3rd born again kid cycle.

A very large proportion of the people BioWare seem to be aiming this game at can't even buy the game. Financial suicide! Nah... BW even got permission to up the rating before the game launched. They know their buyers are the older crowd who grew up with the trilogy and the younger ones are in their 20's. Perfectly acceptable. Anyone younger who sees the rating knows they will be getting into something not considered appropriate for their age, but even a 16 year old has seen worse these days, so they'll buy it anyways. 13 and below is not the crowd to cater too and luckily they were not aiming for that, nor should any game company who makes games like that.

That's from the annual Entertainment Software Association (ESA) report, which seems to be one of the more commonly cited sources: link. The average age does differ slightly depending on the country though, according to some other surveys I've seen. But I'm sure that number will only continue to trend upwards, as current gamers age, and I'm sure mobile gamers are also probably included in these figures as well. Mid 30s sounds about right for people that started as kids with the popularity of console systems like the original NES. There were games long before that, of course, but it was a big deal in terms of popularity.

So I'm guessing it's my early interest in computers (mid 80s) and reading sci-fi and fantasy books that made computer games an easy access. Plus in the 80s, my 2 brothers and I played strategy games either networked or over a modem, games like Empire Deluxe (still play it) or Perfect General.

I'm 54 and I grew up at a time when computers still filled rooms and hunting some pixels at some mall arkade was state of the art. Computers when they became available fascinated me. My brother, who's your age, also uses a lot of electronic stuff, but he's not into gaming.

Whedon's proven to be able to deliver big commercial successes even if some of his projects are only critical successes.

I'm 28 and still enjoy silly slapstick humor, and like Pixar/Disney movies. I don't see why ones source of entertainment always needs to be correlated to age and maturity.
I was introduced to gaming at a young age; my dad was into computer racing games (like Need for Speed) and would play them with me.

It was aimed at all those whom complained about the crap ending given to ME3, and the copy and paste locations of DA2. This is payback.
You want a warm and fluffy ending? You got one. You want more locations than you can shake a donkeys dongle at? You got them.
You want a deep and absorbing game? f**k off.

I had no idea! I saw the movie first, and loved it so much I went looking for the series afterwards. I thought the Operative was better than Vader.
