Oh, god... GTA Online is the worst. Where are these kids parents? I was in the same room while my boyfriend was playing, and all we could hear was this kid who couldn't be more than 11 or 12 saying f this and f that, I'm going to f your mom. My boyfriend eventually just left the race because he couldn't mute the little sh!t. I either just put my TV on mute or make a party chat even if it's just me in it. GTAO sessions are always full of kids who don't shut up or some idiot who play really loud music. Like if you going to be loud and annoying at least do make a chat where it's just you and your friends or take out your mic if it's just you. Like no one is trying to hear your bs when I just want to do races or get a heist going. I do like how the single player campaign in GTAV makes fun of the online trash talkers when Michael's son Jim does it all the time, though. I tried to get into GTA Online but eventually quit after an hour when some random idiot shot me and threw a Molotov at my car after leaving one of the garages. Jokes on him, though, my car was insured

Coordination wasn't necessary with ME3's multiplayer so I decided to shut sound off for other players and the game after a while so I could listen to music or commentary. Prior to that, I was thankfully, for the most part, spared players that thought verbal abuse had a positive effect on group dynamics. I only had one experience with one such player that was thankfully brief: I logged onto a Silver match that was apparently going poorly and some guy was shouting insults to the other players. I quit right there without a second thought and went looking for a new match. I play to have fun and I don't have fun with somebody shouting obscenities and insults at me or someone else in the group.

I usually played with my guild at the time, but sometimes I'd do short missions with randoms. I was testing my new tank (which I had little experience with), and instead of giving me constructive advice on improvement, they decided to use the chat to call me a whore, cunt, dumb bitch, etc. I did report them, but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll only play online with friends now.

This is why I'm so apprehensive about the new Bioware IP and the general trend in the gaming industry to want to focus on online multiplayer gaming. That's why I only play realistic online racers. More than a decade old. An 11 year old not being familar with handling a competitive car would be out within two seconds. I stopped playing GTAV online after a barrage of racist and homophobic slurs by preteens. Same goes for Biowares tacked on multiplayers. Things like that tend to attract the worst possible audience. I'm not even remotely interested.

This is why I enjoy Destiny's multiplayer. For the most part I never hear any nonsense, except perhaps for that rare occasion some salty person has to vent because they got their asses handed to them.

I'll only play online with friends now. Uh, my sympathies. I've been blessed with positive experience in that game and really, for the most part but I've never had much patience for people that expect players new to their role to know everything about it. I was a pretty terrible player in World of Warcraft for a long time but became pretty good especially after I found out that I was a very adept healer. Plenty of people seem to expect all players to be able to learn everything from guides and videos but the truth is that a lot of people simply can't learn that way and learn through practice. A personal example: I've tried and failed repeatedly to memorize boss battles from text guides but I have little problem handling the boss battles once I see them in action and learn the instructions that way. I was a part of a guild that did some coaching for the newer members of the guild and it was based more on being patient and providing constructive criticisms after they made mistakes. We were a bit lazy when it came to orchestrating raids but we had fun and helped a good amount of players have some positive first experiences with the game. Now that I think about it, I think we ended up being a social guild more than anything else. I think it was those positive experiences with other groups that made me able to look back on the bad ones with humor. One time, I was a part of a group doing a casual run of a dungeon when the hunter in the group asked if the rest of us would mind stopping and helping her tame a bonus boss that was right next to us. One player had a tantrum about it when me and the other guy had no problem with it. It wasn't even a hard boss to tame. The guy wasted more time with his rant than the hunter took to tame the boss. The guy was so upset by this that he ragequit. It was near the final boss and a break that barely took two minutes. You may be surprised to learn that none of us cared about his loss and we went on our way after our second replacement joined us only a moment later. Shared the story of the replacement's predecessor on the way to the final boss. You know who our first replacement was? The guy who ragequit. He got thrown right back into the dungeon as his own replacement and had to ragequit the group a second time. In another game, I was in a group and on a map that was difficult to navigate because of a confusing layout. Well, one guy was a speedrunner who decided to just speed through the mobs, get the objective and then run to the extraction point. I'd been there before but the other two players on my team had gotten lost. Again, the map was confusing especially to people who'd never run it before and being under flashy fire does not make navigation easier. The speedrunner makes it to the extraction point and then proceeds to hurry the others and eventually insult them. But see, extraction in this game requires at least two players sooooo he was stuck until one of us got there. Now speedrunners like this player was nothing new to the game: they could be quite irritating as they focused on the boss and ran past everything else but seldom did they start hurling insults. As my teammates were still finding their way and I had developed this curious spite towards this player, I decided to do a leisurely 'bout of killing mooks until my teammates caught up. You may be surprised to learn that the dear speedrunner did not care for that in the slightest and proceeded to level a nice repertoire of insults at me while getting increasingly more angry judging by his choice of words. My occasional breaks from killing to do a little dance in front of him did little to quell his anger, I'm sad to say. I'm afraid he couldn't quite leave unless he wanted to recieve a penalty for doing so and losing the rewards he'd gotten for the mission. If any credit could be given him, it certainly wasn't for his patience. Eventually, my teammates managed to find their way out and join us. We departed as a team and nobody received a lesser reward because they were left behind. Note: I didn't go back for them because I had the same habit of getting lost on that map. I'd gotten lucky that time.

I do miss my old guild because they were cool people who went out of their way to help each other, but the grinding and expectations in guilds were the real reason I stopped playing. I guess the grinding is what got to me when it was more of a chore and I stopped having fun. It goes hand in hand with MMOs, though, so *shrug* The random jerks were an exception to the rule, but there are always people who feel empowered behind a screen and will say things they'd never say without that anonymity.

1. For the most part I had positive experiences in SWTOR, don't get me wrong. I do miss my old guild because they were cool people who went out of their way to help each other, but the grinding and expectations in guilds were the real reason I stopped playing. I guess the grinding is what got to me when it was more of a chore and I stopped having fun. It goes hand in hand with MMOs, though, so *shrug* 2. The random jerks were an exception to the rule, but there are always people who feel empowered behind a screen and will say things they'd never say without that anonymity. 1. The grinding can get annoying but I find it honestly gets a lot less so in the right company. I was once committed to running the Esseles flashpoint for social points all so I could afford a specific *damn jacket for Qyzen Fess that required a high social rank. It was the same thing over and over and over but I had a lot of fun groupmates where we poked fun of things and generally had a fun run. The best part of a random group is that they don't notice when you reuse jokes 2. I never failed to be amused by the amount of people that thought one or two wipe meant the group was irredeemable awful. Bonus if it happened in early dungeons where players are still learning their trade but are somehow expected to be expert. It's funny to see one player in the group bitch up a storm about other players wasting their time while the rest of the group is prepared for a second round and just waiting for that player to either leave or shut up. I do have fond moments of one such player getting kicked mid-rant and the group easily dealing with the rest of the dungeon. Seriously, one wipe says nothing about the group: they can happen for a lot of reason. I've been in experienced groups that wiped and even when it was per a player mistake, everybody were mature about it, re-checked their steps and re-tried the attempt. Sometimes a re-iteration of the tactics were needed but usually, second or third try went smoothly. It's only a problem if the wipes keeps happening. Note: it was totally worth it, by the way. Seriously, it made him look like this bulked up giant of a Trandoshan and so badass. It was the Death Claw set for anyone curious.

Yeah, we kept getting wiped out because I failed to keep all the aggro. I mean, I can understand some annoyance when equipment gets damaged which can add up in cost. Still, it wasn't worth their apparent level of annoyance when they went out of their way to personally attack me and PM me after they rage quit before I had the chance to block them. It's a game, ffs. And, everyone has to start somewhere. I was decent as a healer and DPS, but I wanted to try as a tank too. It is a different kind of skill, and it obviously wasn't my strength in the game... but it's a game!

Too many jerks and internet tough guys for me to want to bother with. I usually avoid all MP type components that allow actual communication now.

Anyone else think it's hilarious watching a bunch of "sophisticated" people in their thirties make sweeping generalizations of an entire age group to prove their maturity? Almost as much fun as watching game developers make sweeping generalizations about gamers not understanding their art.

What an irrelevant salty comment. Keep up the good work. Not every thread has to be about ME3's endings and Bioware's response to their reception Iakus, you've been complaining for 5 years.

Anyone else think it's hilarious watching a bunch of "sophisticated" people in their thirties make sweeping generalizations of an entire age group to prove their maturity? Almost as much fun as watching game developers make sweeping generalizations about gamers not understanding their art. After all these years of reading your parody versions of what Bio said, I can't remember the actual statements anymore. What did they actually say?

I cant speak for the demographic Bioware was hoping to appeal to the most, but I had a blast playing the game and my children are older than most of you on the board... I found the characters and story interesting and engaging. Despite post secondary and post graduate degrees based on the OP's remarks, my intellect must be akin to the under 13 crowd....

My worst experience was in SWTOR. Pretty much the same here. I used to play WoW but over the years as friends and guildies left the game it just wasn't fun anymore having to do the PuG thing. Too many jerks and internet tough guys for me to want to bother with. I usually avoid all MP type components that allow actual communication now. I have grown used to people bashing me and such. I usually just laugh at them and then put them on ignore if it happens which luckily is hasn't for awhile in online games. For the most part, most of the PUGS I meet in MMOs are pretty cool people, and if you want one of the friendliest MMO communities, Final Fantasy 14 is at the top of the list.
