Patch 1.08 notes and discussion (June 8, 8AM PDT)

yes. It shows people don't need role playing in RPGs and just want cool moments and power fantasies. They don't want to make cool unique characters they just to play gruff bad ass with no personality for 2 games.

Meh, I made that avatar months ago when MEA first came out. Are you saying I should take the time to create/find a new avatar? Why? Is it that important? Will a change in my avatar better express my like/dislike of the game? MEA is garbage compared to other BW games at this point for me in terms of a quality. I've never had so many bugged saves, infinite loading times, and glitches in a BW game. BW couldn't even get patch 1.06 right. They had to create a patch for the patch. That's quite a bit of oversight. Perhaps "garbage" is a too strong of a word. Disappointment may be the most appropriate. Usually I do multiple playthroughs of BW games. I played MEA once (romanced Vetra).

PC. He's supposed to be in the cultural center right?

I feel like making Jaal bi should have been really low on the priority list. I'm happy for people who are excited to experience that romance for their playthroughs, but with so many other bugs still present that should have been their main focus. Can we all agree that we should get a patch that shuts SAM up? I don't mean to sound like some ungrateful entitled twit. I appreciate the improvements to the CC, I feel like I can actually make a custom character that I'm happy with. But for reals, SAM needs to STFU. I know I'm not alone in this.

I'm curious to get a better idea of how many people actually hear SAM less since the last patch. He basically says nothing on the Tempest as of 1.08. He will still call out hazards but at least the home base is quiet now. 

I am still hearing him all the time, still getting random comments about emails and AVP and Lexi calling me to the Medbay and having nothing to say.

Exactly. My male Ryder's skin tone is currently very close to mine and I'm a mutt made of English, French and Scottish. I'm about as white and pale as you can get without being a redhead or albino.

Anybody else unable to zoom out in the map? I scroll back with the mouse and it zooms in a bit. Nothing major, just never happened before.

Glad I'm not alone.  This has been the only real bug I've run into with the new patch.  Everything else is as it should have been at release (other than some questionable writing). 

Installed the patch and had to restart my PC twice to run it because it froze on startup and wouldn't open up again after I closed it. Wouldn't even open at all with the mods. However, considering that I'm running my game on an actual potato, I'm not going to blame that on the patch for now - I had that problem before, just never two times in a row.

Really liked the preset 10 and the option to change complexion. Didn't like that eyebrows were tied to the complexion and I really don't care about the additional male haircuts. The game as a whole seems kinda... brighter, I think? Not a fan of that, but I assume it can be fixed with the brightness settings. Didn't have too much time to play after I updated so I was mostly focused on Jaal. There were some differences in animations in some scenes, but nothing huge. Default Sara still looks real high in the bedroom scene, but now smiles more, which... I don't think helps the situation much. It looks nice visually, but the that giggling schoolgirl thing is a bit too much now, for my tastes. Aside from some extra smiling at the end of the romance version, the expressions seem exactly the same. The waterfall scene has that bug that some people have talked about already, where Sara doesn't move her lips when talking prior to getting in the water that alone makes me regret touching the patch at all. Also, there was that weird thing when the lighting of the scene suddenly changed, don't remember if it got brighter or darker, and it was in the middle of a cutscene, not while transitioning to other scene or anything. This and the Sara bug make the scene look much less polished. Jaal and Sara to emote more in their dialogues, especially Jaal, whose "eyebrows" got more... mobile. Not sure if it's necessarily a good thing because the smiles look kinda goofy sometimes, and not in the cutesy romance way, and Jaal's eyebrows seem to move up an down like all the time. It's a nice change for those who wanted them to emote more, but I'm not a fan of all that for personal reasons - my potato PC can't keep up with all the changing expressions so the lip synching is worse than it was. Laughing still looks weird as hell. Overall animations seem to look smoother, at least in the Aya landing scene, on the default Sara, though I haven't played that part in so long that I don't remember if it was always like that or if they were updated. And Jaal and Evfra seem to do that eyeball clipping thing more often, though again, I'm not sure how much they did that before. I'll see if any of the bugs I had were fixed and check out the Heskaarl quest when I get home from work.

There is actually no lore that says he's straight. Sexuality is actually fluid. Many people think they are straight and find out that they aren't. Much of his scenes don't even change with Sara vs Scott except some dialogue. They have a close friendship regardless. Also all of the coding has been pretty clear he was always meant to be bi, but for whatever reason didn't get all the content implemented. All they did was add the dialogue and finished it. This isn't like them changing much if anything. The only people who can get their panties in a bunch over this is a bunch of biphobic cry babies or lore cry babies who decided that Jaal had to be straight. I think we'll all live without either of those groups.

He was not written as a straight character. All coding had him as bi which was taken out later. He was written as bi and changed before final release. Let's stop with this "written as" bullshit.  If that was true they would have never been ANY mention of bi coding for him. Honestly we'll never know 100% what went on behind the scenes. Seriously, biphobic people are the worst.
