I don't know if abandoned is the right word. Bioware is after all just a business, and I try not to form emotional attachments to souless corporations. It is clear however, and had been clear prior to release, that Mass Effect had been kicked down to the C team to make way for a multiplayer shooter. For someone who isn't particularly excited to play Bioware's answer to Destiny, it is a little disappointing.

They're only abandoning anything once they go full online instead of developing RPGs. And this would be the time when me and this developer part ways for good. Some attach quite a lot of melodrama to that. But as you have said, and I have stressed multiple times, Bioware is a major company on the game market, owned by an even larger company. If they make a business decision, it's up to them, just as it's up to me and other customers not to purchase their products if they no longer provide what we are looking for in games.

I remember when we tested it. We said if they made it SP it would never die, but here we are... MP only with SP squeezed into a vast world filled with abusive idiots trying to harass other gamers, and they are still trying to keep people playing it. It's like trying to give CPR to someone already declared dead.

Especially as I'm a huge fan of both the ME and DA games and play them a lot.

I am disappointed only because the games I enjoy are games like DA and ME, The Witcher, Uncharted, even Horizon Dawn and the new Tomb Raiders - SP games with interesting characters, meaningful relationships, interesting stories, lore and dialogues. I was really hoping the new IP would be of that type of RPG or action adventure. It doesn't seem to be the case from what I know to date, but maybe more info will reveal that the nature of the SP version will be more to my liking.

Before MEA was even out, I recall many hints were given that this IP would be an MP focused game mostly, and already people were upset. Seems despite that, they are sure this game is gold and will become a legend.

Or rather I was. This last one I really can't warm up to like I did to the others. It's even more obvious since I decided on finally getting DAII after finishing Andromeda. I disliked the combat displayed in the demo, but boy this game drew me in because of it's story and companions. Can't stop playing it. Wish I could say the same about Andromeda, but it just didn't do it for me.

I suppose I feel a little abandoned, but it's less about MEA vs Anthem and more about SP vs MP. I'm firmly in the SP camp. I'm fairly introverted and for me games are an escape while MP is the opposite of that. After adding MP to all their single player games, shelving ME, and then trotting out their new shiny multiplayer game it's hard not to be worried. They're obviously trending towards MP. So my question is, will they actually deliver on that single player experience they say you can have in Anthem (the IP into which they're clearly going to be pouring the majority of their resources) or am I screwed? I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Compared to that, the MEA vs Anthem bit just stings a little. They don't owe me anything as a company. Most of the original company isn't even there anymore, how could I expect them to stay the same? But they were the only people delivering their particular type of game in AAA quality, and I can't help but be sad to see those days end. Maybe I'm wrong. I hope I am! I do have hopes for DA4. I'm going to give Anthem a chance. However they seem to be going in a direction that I can't follow and it does feel a bit like a break up. I've been playing their games for more than a decade, I don't think it's unreasonable to feel disappointed or worry that fans like me are being left behind.
Bleh. I hope we learn more soon.

Not sure I'd use the word 'abandoned', maybe something less dramatic. But I agree with the people on here saying that the annoyance around Anthem isn't 'people hating on a game that's not out yet' but people reacting to Bioware (whether forced by EA or not) clearly neglected to give me:a the support it needed in favour of this money cow.
They didn't even hide the reason they made the game, they stated themselves the inspiration for this Anthem game was games like Destiny and The Division. And looking at that gameplay trailer (which is half graphics that won't be representative of the final product and half actors pretending to be people casually chatting) there isn't any reason to believe this is going to be anything original. (Admittedly because that trailer showed us nothing but 'look at the pretty graphics, look you can fly and your friends will have to function as your squadmembers. Seriously maybe if they'd showed some story beats or actual characters there'd be more faith in this game.)
It doesn't help that it's clear that this new project has pushed da4 back as well.
But even besides Bioware's own actions, this is just another in a long line of events that make it seem like more and more games are going for the big money made in online gaming (and its microtransaction systems), and that's what annoys me most about all this. Especially coming from Bioware, we already have enough companies pumping out games like this, Bioware games had something unique and I don't want to see that lost in the chase for MMO profits. And yeah, I can't know just yet whether this will mean this will be Bioware's focus from now on, with their other IPs showing up occasionally if at all, but that's the worry. Because if this becomes as successful as Destiny, what motivation do they have to work on other games? Sure, they might want to, but they are part of a bigger company and profit rules EA's decisions. Why have your Bioware studio work on something for 4 years that will be reasonably profitable if you can have them work on something for 4 years that will be absurdly profitable.
And yeah, it doesn't help that the Anthem trailer looked like a planet I would've liked in me:a (maybe replacing one of the desert planets!?) or that the characters looked better, or that the gameplay looked like a superior version of me:a's.

Believe me, none of this is tied to Anthem, even if some people think so. MEA is still supported. It's just not the support some people liked to see. Such as DLCs. But it's a rather peculiar claim that EA or Bioware would drop a franchise they invested something like 40 million dollars and countless hours of manpower in over half a decade. If they don't publish DLCs for Andromeda it's not because of Anthem but because of how Andromeda was received. And because they expect too little in terms of revenue from developing and publishing additional content.

I don't get the abandoned thing, it's silly. Not surprising at all though because people are way too emotional now adays. I think ME:A didn't have a good chance from the beginning since the OG Bioware crew wasn't really involved. It kinda reminds me of the situation with Borderlands The Pre-Sequel.

Very true: Because I remember a LOT of people at BSN Prime and many of them are also here complaining about the title, Mass Effect: Andromeda. Then they bitched about the first shots of Peebee and made fun of her appearance and said she looked Shrek. Then they bitched about how all the female characters looked "ugly". Then griped that wasn't enough romance. Then whined that was too much romance. Then it's was typical anti-LGBT bullshit. Then they complained about the voice actors not being good. Then they complained about how the game was marketed. Then they whined when BioWare wouldn't tell them if had MP or not. Then they raged against the trailers all being making of/behind the scenes stuff. Then they whined about all the typical SJW and political correctness nonsense. Then they griped that you couldn't play as evil bastard. Then they complained about the feminists "ruining the game's women". Then they yelled about the Ryder twins being "too young". Then they created a shit storm about the whole going to another galaxy breaking the lore of the ME Universe. The knives were out for ME:A for worthless stupid reason, and all of valid constructive criticism was drowned out by bunch of fucking useless angry entitled hardcore gamer trolls that have pretty much ruined all of gaming culture. I grant thee 1 million likes for the perfection of this post. All true. All sort of sad and scary. Me thinks these folk need to go outside and get lots of fresh air. Just be grateful that I accidentally deleted a massive re-edit of that post it was a lot nastier.

THANK.YOU. Seriously, this post is pure gold. Finally someone said the ugly truth. You are welcome. Truth be told it was very cathartic for me to post that because it NEEDED to be said and one of my mottoes is that I would rather be hated for being honest with my opinions than being loved as a liar just to get along with people. By that same logic it also needs to be said that their opinion is just as valid as your contempt of their criticisms. It can be claimed that you are effectively "Bitching about the Bitchers". No doubt some of them, if not all, believe their criticisms were completely justified and I agree with several of them at least. ...and who are you to call people "fucking useless angry entitled hardcore gamer trolls"? Do you seriously believe that was appropriate?

The only place more or less free of trolling was the twitter thread there.
