Should the Mass Effect IP branch out into other genres?

Mass effect turned Starcraft would be BADASS!

Honestly I think RTS would be the next best fit for it, they've tinkered with the first person thing once and didn't like it, so they should stick with their gut on that one cause most fps games aren't unique and just copy, I can't imagine mass effect being much different than a Star Wars battlefront if they did it.

We already have a third person RPG-esq one, but if they really want an action focus they could go gears of war style with just cut scenes and kill everything else like the dialogue and choices for more explosions /s

And yea, RTS is all I could see working.

Wouldn't have to be an RTS, that is just the example I thought of (one that I would like to see).  It could be any genre.  My main point is if it would be good for the brand if it expanded into other types of genres.

Mass Effect 'Just Dance' ? 

I would say I always wanted a type of "heroes of the storm" or super smash bros type of game, but with bioware characters coming from different franchise.

With Ryder, shepard, the warden, the inquisitor, revan, etc.

Not forgeting the companion like Lelianna, Liara, peebee, sten, drack, etc.

And also the villains like malak, saren, the primus, corypheus etc.

I know this will never happen, but I just love the idea

I see no reason why they can't. Other franchises have done it and been successful, like for example Halo with the Halo Wars games. Some ancient Mass Effect wars like the Rachni Wars or Krogan Rebellions can be done with RTS, or more linear stuff like the First Contact War can be done as a linear game, etc.

An RTS would work but I could definitely see a Mass Effect themed X-Com like game. Turn based missions with a strategic part where you build up your dreadnought and do stuff on the galaxy map. That could be fun. They could bring in more named characters and character interactions within the teams to give a more mass effect-y style.

Also, the obvious genre-change would be to make a Space Sim out of it (there was even a decent fan game once, though I think it was just developed by one single guy, might have been called "ME: Alliance" but not sure).

However, in the end, for me the perfect solution would be bring more elements into the game formula that they have right now. I know they tried to add the space sim factor into ME:A and failed horribly but in principle, I don't think it's a bad idea necessarily.
Also, I could see them using more adventure and puzzle elements in future ME games. They have everything they need to do it already (the scanner, an inventory, a dialogue system, a research mechanic to craft/build/combine stuff) but they didn't really use it, despite the fact that they had quests for it (like the murder investigation on Kadara for example). I'd say, a puzle element here and there could be a nice addition. They'd probably need to make them an optional path since not everyone is going to like the down pacing this wuold cause but I'd be thrilled.

I'd take a filler game releasing 2019ish to remind people the franchise is still alive and couple that with an announcement of a new main title for the early 2020s, to head off potential outrage.

But it has to be more than a non-story mobile title.

Filler doesn't mean crap .

Tactical? Adventure? IDK.

Maybe have it actually on Frostbite too and as better training for the intentions for a next main game. Sell it a little cheaper and don't promise so much.

But personally I'd rather see DLC for MEA and a confidence 1-2 years from now that ME will be 'defrosted' and we'll see it not too long after.

Is expansion preferable to extinction? Hell yes. I'd take a Mass Effect Andromeda action shooter with a good campaign story any day of the week. If they want to develop a Mass Effect Andromeda flight sim, I'd be down with that as well... just please leave Shepard dead and done.

I imagine a spin-off open world RPG a bit like Skyrim or KoToR could be possible. Set a period, like the Krogan Rebelion, choose your race, sex, class, etc. then lots of quests that have consequences. Could be nice as a spinoff, but that shouldn't replace a saga/trilogy

In a semi-serious fashion, Action/Hack n' slash/adventure or whatever.

What? ME3 and Andromeda has swords and hammers. What's your excuse?
