The batarian's story is being explained in a blog, apparently. So probably not.

For their sake I hope so because putting batarians in the initiative without proper story context just to throw a couple of extra MP character would be a nail on the coffin.

tbh I think it's really annoying of them to introduce races into the MP if they aren't in the SP game world at all and won't ever be introduced in DLC. Yes, great, I love Batarians too, but how does this make sense? They are different playing modes, but they are set in the same galaxy, where Batarians don't exist and have not yet arrived on any ark. But would they be allowed on any ark? Not likely. I'm confused. Maybe I'm overthinking it. Time for the first coffee of the day.

I guess it makes more sense if it's "The Batarian," but this feels forced. A blog post? Whatever, I don't play MP (as noted in my status message).

A single batarian for MP still doesn't make any sense. So when you happen to enter in a match and find other two or three batarians...how you're going to explain this?
I hope they are just reserving the SP reveal for later because otherwise this would be idiocy to the master level.

LOL, yeah it doesn't really make more sense. It makes more sense in the SP story (since the presence of many Batarians makes no sense there unless they hijacked an ark or something?) but not at all in the MP. So I very much hope that this means there is some DLC in the works with Batarians.

That still doesn't make them less stupid.

That's not happening at this point -- but it would be nice if they could at least do it later in SP DLC (which I have very little hope for, but maybe still a tiny bit).  Not just so it makes more sense for those who play both modes, but because single-player gamers paid for a game too -- a game billed as a single-player RPG w/ an optional MP mode -- so it is a little frustrating if all new narrative content is only reserved for multiplayer gamers. And explained in blog posts.
