- You can vote twice in the poll as some people will probably have preferences that overlap.
"It just feels like everyone’s fucking around and don’t really understand the stakes of what’s happening" Totally agree with this - anyone else? If you liked the dialogue, did this bother you at all?

IMO it's the best thing about the dialogue. But that's just me. Hmm - it does seem like a love/hate sort of dichotomy for fans. I think if i liked the overall plot more - or the villain at least, it wouldn't have bothered me as much.

Man, I laughed more about the sitcom laughter chiming in in this video than the 'jokes' in MEA. And I agree with everything the guy in the video says. The premise of MEA is too much of clash with how the characters behave. There's a time and place for jokes, but MEA overdid it. Someone commented that they must've made MEA this way after seeing how well received Citadel DLC was, and it sure feels that way. The thing is, Citadel works for many people because we spent so much time with our characters, but in MEA it just feels wrong. I'm glad people like MEA, but for me, it is the one BW game I never got invested in due to the dialogue and how everyone behaves.

That guy from yt is absolutely right. Sometimes i got the feeling that dialogue lines in MEA been written by some immature adults for much more inmature adults. I know that this is just a game, but after comparing previous BW games I see A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

You played for ten hours and don't even own the game. Why are you so obsessed? The fuck? Really?! OP, you never played beyond first 10 hours of ME:A and yet discuss for months in 100's of posts about this game?! Jesus Christ, actually complete the game if you'll put so much effort with your nonsensical arguments.

Has noone here ever bothered to watch a single video of military on deployment? You'd think they don't ever joke with what you people are saying. Meanwhile, "Mind your head, low flying RPGs" is about the tamest joke I've heard from them. Military folks are fucking funny to the point of you being unable to draw breath from how hard you're laughing. You'll be hard pressed to find a better community than a bunch of guys who like the military, have served, and/or like guns. Oh, wait. Cora has served. Ryder twins have served. Liam's crisis response was along similar lines in terms of people. Drack has a millenia of combat experience. Jaal is in active service. On top of the video author being a known anti-BioWare troll, y'all need to work on your sense of humor. You played for ten hours and don't even own the game. Why are you so obsessed? Did he actually admit that?

The writing got a tad inconsitent at times, and certainly the tone was sometimes to blame for that. In general, though, I liked it, but I can see why people may not, it's a big change from the Trilogy after all.

Did he actually admit that? I don't think the people in charge of the military are like this. Did the trilogy's more serious tone get it wrong then? Would it have been better if you could put a laugh track into most of its dialogue? i know Citadel was like that - YY addresses that in the video.

IMO it's the best thing about the dialogue. But that's just me. Seconded. The protagonist can't fail, the teammates can't die, there's a jetpack and the Nomad (which somehow reminds the horses from Skyrim, but also unbreakable). "Serious" (pathos level like in ME3, when I cringed every time characters were giving The Motivational Speech "It's now or never" or "Everyone's counting on us" or similar) dialogues wouldn't fit. Alec Ryder's speech at the beginning was the only one I detested deeply (unlike director Tann's, who was more self-aware).

That kind of speech is what happens in this scene - except they squeeze in as many one-liners and jokes as they can. I don't know - I just really didn't like that. Every wise-crack takes me out of a scene like this: I'll add a poll to this thread out of curiosity.

Don't like jokes...don't choose the casual dialogue options. It's not like the jokes disappear if you don't choose casual - and oftentimes your companions will joke regardless (and then there's the constant banter jokes...) Just a thought (an unrealistic one), but it would be amazing if we could alter the personalities of our companions based on how we talk to them - like if I just talk seriously with Liam, he turns into a serious hardass instead of... whatever he is now.

Could you add "Depends on gameplay"? Skyrim had some epic glitches, which were ruining the serious mood from the start. Some FPS and strategy games, when you can (and will) fail, work better with less jokes and more informative dialogues.

Actually, yes. The trilogy was very gloomy and tight-packed. They rarely had any time to just have fun and the age of the cast helped that somewhat.
That said, they can still have some fun - Garrus and shooting bottles, Joker/EDI going to Purgatory, Shepard drinking with the grunts, that kind of thing. You can also dance in ME1, even with your LI. Unfortunately, after Lazarus, Shepard lost the ability to dance properly. I chalk it up to the nasty limp they have in ME2. Who knows how well the leg actually healed.

You know what's weird though? I watched this great video on tone last night. It talked about bathos. Ie the art of making light of seious situations. Ie what people complain about in MEA.
Just the MET also had bathos up to the hilt...every time you had a renegade option.

I know that this is just a game, but after comparing previous BW games I see A HUGE DIFFERENCE. I think it's professionaly written. Just not on the lines of what I find funny, as we already established in previous threads. People were comparing it to Buffy and other lighthearted series, as if this was a good thing. Well, for me it ain't. And that's the problem with humor in general. It's entirely in the eye of the beholder and this game forced me into always avoiding the emotional responses. Which gets old very fast, since there aren't that many reply options to begin with. Yes, the writing is on a professional level, but they obviously assumed everyone would react the same to them constantly cracking jokes.

If you could, the renegade option should have been just as divisive and reviled by a chunk of the fan-base. The renegade option more than not was just Shepard being a bad-ass, which sometimes happened to be hilarious, but not all the time.

Reminder that the person who made the video in the OP tried to claim the game's visuals had been downgraded from the teaser trailers by comparing them to footage from the PC version at the absolute lowest graphics settings.
Who would think one person with an obsessive, delusional hatred of BioWare would mindlessly parrot another person with an obsessive, delusional hatred of BioWare?

Rabid, delusional anti-BioWare crybabies parroting each other. What a twist. The game's visuals were downgraded from teaser trailers... almost all games do this to sell/hype the product. You need to work on your anger.
