That's because most of the jokes aren't funny - that's part of the problem... humour is really hard to pull off to the point where everyone agrees it's funny or not - they should have realized how divisive attempting to shoehorn it in everywhere would be. Seen all of the humor available in the game in the first ten hours, did we? Sorry, but I burst out laughing when I had casual Ryder's talk about first contact with the Angara on Aya before he departed the ship. If that shit ain't funny to you... there's no help in the world for that. "If this goes badly, if I get eaten alive - even if it's hilarious - please destroy the vids." And his little jaunty handwave. Man. Find some fucking joy in your sad life, that's all I can tell you. Subjective - to me that is crrriiinngggeee. And a perfect example of why humour shouldn't have been layered so densely throughout the plot. Also, less personal attacks please.

It's like you didn't even read what I wrote. I'm saying the humour is subjective, and for that reason it is very difficult to pull off effectively - so it was probably a piss-poor idea to add comedic elements to almost every event in the game due to how this will fall flat for a lot of players. So because humor is subjective, and different people take it differently they shouldn't use it?! Now that's funny. They shouldn't have used it so heavily, yes. If you'll look at the poll, most people prefer a more serious tone with humour added here and there for levity, not in the majority of conversations.

Who is making all these jokes everyone is so angry about? Ryder CAN be jokey but s/he can also be more serious. PeeBee makes jokes. I guess Gil does too. Everyone else is serious to me. Cora is serious. Drack is serious. Vetra is serious. Jaal is serious. Liam is too serious. Lexi is serious. Suvi is serious. Kallo is serious. So where are all the jokes coming from?

hyperbole?? not as many jokes. i was certainly was not laughing as much as you imply That's because most of the jokes aren't funny - that's part of the problem... humour is really hard to pull off to the point where everyone agrees it's funny or not - they should have realized how divisive attempting to shoehorn it in everywhere would be. ^^^ this. I can't recall if I ever laughed but then again I'm not a humorous person to start out with, very little makes me laugh. regardless, the game was nothing but trying to be funny as much as it could and most of it was just stupid to me. "Scan them back" 😒 Wait, I found one thing that made me laugh. "Think I pissed that one off, maybe it's cause I shot him in the face" 😣 Bioware just needs to drop the humor, there's so many games lately that it's just repetitive and unnecessary. Didn't like it in DAII, inquisition had unnecessary moments, and now there's this taking the cake. Better not be any in Anthem either.

You don't know the difference between anger and disdain, do you? No wonder you hate the lightness in MEA, you can't tell different tones, so everything comes across as way more ebullient than it's actually intended.

Well tbh that's how I'd describe the game so.... They need like a baseline focus group filled with a range of people that have everywhere from no sense of humour to a sense of humour about everything and target the middle i guess. I saw the trilogy more like you see Andromeda then - there was humour, but it was relegated to moments where I get it didn't distract from the plot.

How can you possibly know there is nothing in there that you would find funny? Well they were 0/10 hours for me. 600 minutes of straight cringe - I guess I just assumed that would continue. For example, you don't need to watch more than 5 minutes of Big Bang Theory to know whether or not it makes you want to kill yourself.

To be honest, I feel the same way about Citadel as you. Even back then the entire idea of it's set up was ridiculous to me. But...I needed it. I don't know if it even makes sense, but I needed it. I was so emotionally devastated after the ending crap, that I just needed, one last happy memory. Like I said, I would have absolutely loathed and despised that DLC in any other situation, but back then? I just....needed it. I don't know, I think that, in a round about way, the Citadel DLC might have done more damage to the franchise in the long run than the endings to ME 3 did. Sure the endings were terrible, and narratively/coherently divorced from what came prior but at least BioWare got the unequivocal and almost universal response that, by and large, the endings sucked. With the Citadel, they looked at it and the overwhelming "popularity" surrounding it and walked away with the mindset that everything else should try and emulate it. The idea that forced campiness trumps a nuanced story, that constant quips and one-liners spilling out of 2 dimensional cardboard cutouts beats having characters with depth or a story with a consistent sense of urgency; given the main plot hook. Etc. Even more than that, it seems that the biggest 'lesson' they took away from the Citadel DLC (IMO) was that no one actually wants to see a nuanced science fiction story, or a narrative with a focus on discovering the unknown, of finding those things that are inherently different from us. No, they think that we would all rather have the vague overtones of a sci-fi story, namely space ships and laser guns, as a subdued backdrop to a story about cutting it up with your goofy friends. It was cringe inducing how much more emphasis, and in-game time was devoted to gathering those ingredients for Movie Night over stopping the Archon, or trying to study the Remnant. Unfortunately, I fear you are correct about that. Bioware did what they always do, totally misunderstand fan reception. It's truly a tragedy in my opinion that something that was sort of therapeutic for many fans, has ended up basically taking over the entire series in ways many of us never wanted. As far as all these people who insist you aren't allowed to have an opinion if you haven't finished the game? Just stop. That is the most ridiculous strawman, that is only ever pulled out when you have no other valid rebuttal. I'm sorry, but that first 10 hours is very much indicative of the experience MEA provides. I should know, I finished it. To say otherwise is total delusion, and if you counter with the strong character development moments that happen later in the game, like Drack? To that I say, why did they wait until 35 hours in to finally get to interesting companion development. I love the development several characters get later on, but it does not change the fact they took like 35 hours to stop firing off dumb jokes long enough to actually flesh the characters out.

For example, you don't need to watch more than 5 minutes of Big Bang Theory to know whether or not it makes you want to kill yourself. In my case, being sentenced to watch any sitcom would be worse than 25 to live. But to be honest, you can avoid most of the cringefest by selecting your replies carefully. It reduces your reply options, which is my problem with the so called light tone they've chosen. And in some cases, such as uninterruptable cinematics, you can't avoid it at all, short of spamming the skip button. The first ten hours didn't tell you how the final game looked, since it was released to the general public in a buggy state which has been taken care of by patches in the meantime.

Patches haven't touched the dialogue though - and ignoring a dialogue option for the entire game when it's often one of the two choices available isn't a fabulous solution. 4 options every time would've been nice - although I'd take renegade/paragon/neutral option every single time over the personalities that are all just a slightly different flavour.

I've played the entire game and I agree with most of Suikoden has said about the tone.
It's just too many ATTEMPTS at humor/levity. It's so heavy handed it made me not laugh at things I actually thought was funny.
ME2 was a bit over the top, but at least you didn't have two amateur comedians bantering back and forth for entire missions.
Hell, I actually found things funny that probably weren't intended to be funny in ME:2. For example: The scene on Omega where Shepard gets information from a batarian by threatening to blind him, one eye at a time. Or...all of the renegade interrupts... Maybe I'm an a-hole...

To give you an impression of what I like, I was on my knees laughing when I first saw A Fish called Wanda or Scrooged for the first time. But I get where you're coming from. Although I didn't find that particular scene funny, I can go with a bit of evil sarcasm. For me the most memorable humorous situation in ME2 was Fish on the Presidium.

I loved A Fish Called Wanda. Laughed till I cried. Loved Kevin Kline shouting, "AAAAAAASSSSHHHHOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLEEEE" every time he almost hit someone because he was driving on the wrong side of the street. And I also found Andromeda funny. I think the, "this is what I think is funny so it's why I don't think Andromeda is funny" experiment is a failure.
