It doesn't fucking matter. WE aren't going to be playing them and if they're a NPC they're going to be completely bastardized anyway.

Well, I will still enjoy the character while experiencing his adventures during the story of Inquisition. I personally don't mind leaving him behind, and implementing a new character and perspective to interact with the world of Thedas.
I probably lucked out with my Hawke (if that is what you are referring to), since he was against the use of blood magic. For me, Hawke's aggressive personality was portrayed accurately during Inquisition. The only thing that annoyed me was that he was originally a dual wielding rogue, but the Keep had no tile for weapon type/specialization, so he was swapping to a bow on occasion. Overall pretty minor, and I simply adjusted my Hawke to swap weapon types for different missions.

I mind. They completely undid the conclusion to their story and are now leaving it that way, leaving them and their story ruined in the process for nothing we didn't already know. I am, along with Revan and Exile. That Hawke was completely against how I had my Hawke.

After running a few build maps for various games, and stepping back from the problem for a bit, I came to my decision. And the destination is in a completely different direction from what I intended. Although, it is not as if it is something I have never considered. So, despite the rather atrocious spell list available in Inquisition, I will be making my canon a male, Qunari mage. He will largely avoid the pitfall of school simplification, and avoid elements by going purely Spirit with Rift specialization (well, he may take 1 unupgraded elemental to unlock some passives, and use it until it can be replaced by Stone Fist).
I was given a little nudge to maybe splice a couple of my character concepts, and keep Blackwall as my canon romance by using a female Qunari mage instead of male canon. In such a case, I would probably still try out a male mage in the new game.
femAdaar would lose out on a couple of my bullet points, but she would break my female partner streak in Thedas. And it would be fun wandering around as a party of Qunari with their human boyfriends.

Vallhon Trevelyan Warrior. A good man, honest, brave, tireless, a good fighter, but in the end, nothing so special or brilliant. Almost mediocre, if compared with the glorious, charismatic Warden or with the smart, ambitious Hawke.
Specialization: Champion.
Companions/Advisors: Good friend with Dorian, Varric, Blackwall, Cassandra. Adores Vivienne, his guide, the true grey eminence of the inquisition. Respect with Solas, Cullen, Leliana. Indifferent towards Cole and Josephine. Sera never recruited, when the inquisitor saw her, he tought was "wtf is this idiot?" and then kicked her out.
Romance: Cassandra. Meh. A love without passion. The inquisitor might even be repressed homosexual/bisexual, great feeling with Dorian, but the leader of the inquisition cannot sleep with a tevinter male mage.
Divine: Vivienne, of course. Say goodbye to your freedom, mages.
Loyalty Quests Dorian: peace with his father. Blackwall: Free, now he's Rainer Bull: Loyal to the Qun, killed during traspasser. So sad. Cassandra: New leader of the Seekers Sera: never recruited Cole: Spirit Solas: Wisdom dead. Varric: Alive and well? Everything fine Viv: hearth given
Wrath of Haven: 'Chosen One'? Yes, if you say so... Templars: Conscripted Orlais: Celene empress, Briala executed, Florianne executed, Gaspard executed (or exiled maybe? I don't remember); Wardens: Stroud left in the Fade (no way I sacrifice Hawke), Wardens conscripted. Well of Sorrows: Allied with the Sentinels, Inquisitor drank from the well. The Descent: Done Jaws of Hakkon: revealed the true about Ameridan Trespasser: Preserved the Inquisition. Killed the bull. Stop Solas at every cost.

I make a new character every playthrough but my canon run is always the one done blind. I know I'm too prone to metagame after.
Liratha Adaar She was an absolute doormat to her companions and was bad at making the hard decisions. It's a wonder she was ever a merc. Due to this she spent all her free time researching anything she could get her hands on to avoid making hard choices (which was really just I took all the knowledge perks to see what they did).
Class: Rogue Romanced: Josie
Honestly believed she was saved by Andraste, after meeting Coryfish had doubts but Mother Giselle's pep talk gave her faith. Brought the mages on as allies as a chance to let them make a good impression on thedas. Declared her work as the Inquisitor was as an ambassador to the Qunari during her speech. Sacrificed Loghain to save Hawke (felt terrible about it), wardens were allowed help Saved Celene, ruled solo. Asked to have Gaspard spared. Allied with the Sentiniles, Let Morrigan drink from the well since she asked. Cassandra became Divine. Kept the Inquisition a Peacekeeping force (because she didn't want to go back to being nobody).
Saved the Chargers so that nobody would confuse her with those kind of Qunari. Cole made more Human. Solved Josies quest peacefully. Left Blackwall a free man. Helped everyone.

Since I still prefer romancing the Iron Bull with any race but Qunari, and due to my weird obsession with forcing variety into my world state, I am (mostly) certain that I am going to wind back the clock a bit, and reset my canon to a Dalish Elf. Since the whole process has been a bit of a mess, I am going to resubmit the character map. Female Dalish Elf, charming and flippant in words and speech (often underestimated), but ruthless in judgment and action Two-Handed Greataxe Templar (warrior tank; still wears Ardent Blossom & Keeper Robe) Romances Blackwall, then Iron Bull skilled hunter, and spy (specifically groomed for this task by the Keeper) for Clan Lavellan; does not worship Andraste, or believe in being the Herald; worships the Creators Companions: Cassandra-acquaintances, rebuilds Seekers Solas-"friends", stop at all costs Varric-friends, tracks leak to Bianca Sera-doesn't recruit Vivienne-"frenemies", helps with potion Iron Bull-"friends" and lovers, saves dreadnought Blackwall-former friends and lovers, but executed in Val Royeaux Cole-dismisses spirit/demon creature Dorian-friends, doesn't forgive father Advisors: Leliana-encourages murderous solutions. Watch out for steeled Leliana! as Divine! Cullen-ordered to continue his Lyrium ingestion Josephine-contract is destroyed (but messenger is allowed to leave) Sides with mages, and conscripts the confused and error-prone souls Celene is assassinated, with Briala as Gaspard's puppeteer Grey Wardens banished after Stroud sacrifices himself Inquisitor defeats Samson and gains more strange magical power from the Well of Sorrows Disbands Inquisition due to security threats, starts working in the shadows
Rereferencing this old post to reaffirm my canon. This is my canon for a number of reasons, both in-game and meta. Experiencing the story events and visiting many of these places as an elf is great. And then finding all these powerful elven relics that the party equips as further ties to the culture. A number of the choices work best by simply roleplaying the character, and that's how they become part of the canon. Iron Bull is one of my favorite companions, and my favorite romance for this game; I also prefer him with a female elf. Templar is one of my favorite specializations in the series, and though it can be more impactful for an Andrastian character, it still provides a lot of needed utility for the Inquisitor and what she has to deal with on her mission. I also like having races paired with less common classes (my dwarf rogue and this elf warrior). I also like having a variety of characters and races (my main DAI squad is an elf, qunari, dwarf, and human; my warden is a dwarf, Hawke is a human, the Inquisitor is an elf, and I hope for my DA4 player character to be of the Qunari).

I'm back to my old tricks again. Here I am trying to fill half the thread with my own posts, slowly chronicling my chronic indecision. Female Dalish Elf, charming and flippant in words and speech (often underestimated), but ruthless in judgment and action Sword + Shield Jill-of-all-Trades Templar (focus on offense and criticals, flanking bonuses, NON-heavy armors, and rogue abilities for Masterwork enchantments on gear) Romances Blackwall, then Iron Bull

When I played these games, in my first run I played them as myself and made choices based on my own opinions and thoughts, so the hero of ferelden, champion of Kirkwall and the inquisitor were all the same person haha, I realized that was going to be a problem when I played inquisition and had to bring my hawke back :-P. So I replayed everyone with a character I made up and I consider that my canon world state. So, my first run will probably be just me and my silly opinions but in my second one I'll play as my "cannon" inquisitor Circe Travelyan !
Her race is -pretty obviously- human and she is a rogue ! Very dedicated to the maker and her noble responsibilities, sided with the templars and is very aware and afraid of magic. Her opinions on magic are pretty much the same as Viv and she actively helped Vivienne to get the circles up and running. She chose to remake the Templar order and the seekers but banished the grey wardens.
Cullen romance ! It's actually very cute and I felt that based on her opinions it was either Cullen or Josephine but since I've already romanced Josephine on a jerk inquisitor run (lol) I decided to try Cullen's romance since I haven't seen it and they actually got along quite well !
I'm not that sure how she will approach the whole Solas situation in the future since I didn't really make an effort to have an active relationship with him on the run ( I know very stupid but you have to understand that I can't stand the hard boiled egg ) but since she's anti-magic most of their interactions didn't end well.
