I'm going to try out a sniping Jugg on Gold, I'm curious, the others haven't kicked me out yet. Edit: it worked surprisingly well, apart from the constant auto-aim disturbances and when the Javelin haven't made full damage (why is that, by the way? I headshot a Brute who is severely damaged and it survived, or it only takes a bit of a Ravager's health.)

I think it's due to the hipfire penalty randomly not being un-applied when you scope, at least, the damage seems consistent with a hipfire shot, despite being scoped.

Black Widow is the best sniper and perhaps the best wepon in the game.No doubts here. For deeps maybe. Well-played Arc Pistol can give it a good run, especially when compared to rarity. <obligatory> Best sniper is the Claymore w/Marksman or Hunter Mode. Doesn't need phasic to deal with shieldgate. </obligatory>

My mention of the Claymore was strictly out of reverence for the High Lord. But I remember well timed and charged Arc Pistol headshots can arguably have more deeps than the Black Widow on certain kits.

Arc pistool, Wraith and Talon are all better than the Black Widow.
Sniper rifles suck on vanguards and other CQC kits. This alone eliminates the BW as the best weapon of the game.

And I'm still with the doctor in this one, Black Widow works on everything if you can quickscope. Shoots faster than any of the other two and has a decently sized mag. You'll probably have to change playstyle a bit for vanguards, but I can see it being better timewise than the other two in solos, even more so than in PUGs, as you play more careful and with better spawn control and awareness. OTOH I'm not sure I could pull it off, but on paper I think it's possible.

As a pure sniping weapon, the Valiant is without equal.
If you can aim.
I have and always will prefer it to the BW, mostly because when I destroy with it it is a demonstration of "skill". Or, "skull". Because that's all I shoot at.
Yes, BW scores more points. Meh.

Lol you guys are just nuts. BW isn't even the best sniper, let alone the best gun in the game Can't agree. At least i can use it on every damn single characataer. Now I want to see a kroguard / Black Widow platinum solo. Oh, and it must be sub-20 too. OK, maybe sub-30. Well... You might pledge Lord Fortack to show you his mighty Javelin Kroguard. I created a poll. Vote for the best, not the favourite, I plan to ask that, too. I'll let you veterans decide which one is the best since I generally don't have a clue about dps, hipfire penalties etc. From my own experience it seems I'm dealing the most damage with the BW.
I would be interested in seeing if a favourite sniper poll ends with the same result; For starters I'll just say that the BW is not my favourite...

I like sniping, in game and irl. PS3's halpful Aim Ass (shortened for obvious reasons that all PS3 players will know) is a pain in the ..ass, yes. Looking forward to testing PC sniping that is rumoured to be gloriously unassisted. I do like sniping, but that doesn't mean I'm good at it. I'm a bit restricted due to one eye's vision being like a kaleidoscope, so sometimes accurate aiming gets a bit interesting - but still fun for me. My favourites range from the more common QFI + Black Widow, to the perhaps more unorthodox Jugger + Javelin. The latter being my odd way of relaxation, especially on Ghost. I'm sure I'm not totally alone with that setup.

Jugger + Javelin...on Ghost. I'm sure I'm not totally alone with that setup. I have a suspicion you weren't, in fact, alone, and that a Javelin carrying Geth Infiltrator accompanied you in such operations.

Two weeks has passed, I closed the poll. Based on the 30 votes, the results are: 1. Black Widow 13 votes (43.33%) 2. Javelin 10 votes (33.33%) 3. Mantis 2 votes (6.67%) Widow 2 votes 5. Valiant 1 vote (3.33%) Indra 1 vote Collector Sniper Rifle 1 vote
The new poll is open, which, as I have mentioned before, asks your favourite sniper rifle. This should be interesting. Also, my next SR solo will be the Kishock, which I am really bad with. Is there something I am missing about it? Charge and shoot, no hipfire penalty, doesn't penetrate cover. Should be simple, but sometimes it even misses point-blank. Is this a console problem? It shoots under-over-left-right where I aim? What's its secret?

Should be simple, but sometimes it even misses point-blank. Is this a console problem? It shoots under-over-left-right where I aim? What's its secret? The Kishock is a projectile weapon, when aiming, think more Bow+Arrow rather than Rifle. Another thing to remember: Cloak AFTER you start charging, the charged shot wont break cloak, letting you get a second tapped (not charged) shot with cloak bonus. The Kishock may not penetrate cover, but it does have a large projectile length, allowing it to EFFECTIVELY pierce Guardian Shields despite not having penetration capabilities (even with mods). Additionally, the gun has a 3x Headshot Multiplier, and ignores shield gate entirely (AND applies a DoT), so Phasic rounds are not needed, take a class that can detonate and elemental ammo for explodey goodness. Mods are variable, Barrel+Enhanced Scope will help vs Cerberus, Barrel+ThermalClip will mean less boxhumping, and even Barrel+ULM works if you take a non-Infiltrator. The gun has a LOT of "thereotical" benefits, such as higher damage on a charged shot than the Javelin (even on the GI), however, it also suffers Projectile issues. Can't really offer much more in terms of Whaling Advice, perhaps there's a resident Scumbag Expert who could shine more light on it for you.

IMHO:↓
Black Widow: Probably the best all 'round, but I don't find it much fun anymore.
M-13 Raptor: Garbage.
M-97 Viper: Garbage that makes me pine for ME2 version of it. (Exactly like lolcust)
N7 Valiant: Diamond in the rough. Not too over the top; rewards consistent accurate fire-rate and reload/animation cancel. Beastmode when you have the perfect amount of lag to the point that the reload time vanishes. Still doesn't hit hard enough to feel ridiculous though.
M-92 Mantis: Garbage but it's your starting sniper so that's understandable.
Javelin: Bit too over the top, but punishes misses severely. Also hits that Perfect Dark XR-20 nostalgia.
M-90 Indra: Love it; has it's niche, but hipfire penalty makes me cry.
M-29 Incisor: Garbage. If I want my trigger-finger to fall off I'd rather take the Mattock or even the Hornet.
M-98 Widow: Tried and true, but there are better options now. Still worth using.
Kishock Harpoon Gun: Not garbage. But also not for me.
Krysae Sniper Rifle: I've tried different builds to make this thing shine like the GE w/3 Jump Overload and Incin ammo. Still don't like it. Had a bit too hard of a fall through that ol' nerf tree I guess. (Didn't try it when it was OP to be fair though so it's conjecture on my part.)
Collector Sniper Rifle: Love it in it's niche. And the niche I love it in is priming firesplosions with my Vorcha Soldier. Between flamer taps to prime groups, quick taps of the CSR to prime individuals, and Carnage to ignite it all, I love it.
***
For favourite, I guess I'd have to say Valiant. I don't think it's the best sniper rifle in terms of realistic output but I enjoy it better than the BW or Jav.
Also, Talon from Hard Cover. You can manage headshots from the area around LZ of FB:Giant to the window in the Control Room where Marauders love to snipe from.

^Good with the QMI too (no cooldown with Arc grenades = 1 fire explosion / tech burst after each shot). Shines mostly versus Cerberus and Geth though.
