The Lord of the Rings. Those movies are incredible on so many levels. I don't think any fantasy films will ever top them.
Just the sound of the horn of the Rohirrim blowing the first time sends chills through my entire body and Theoden's speech would inspire even a total coward to charge into battle with him.

Doctor Strange was neat, diving into an origin story alongside Marvel's Chain-Quest-Comic-Spree. Said origin isn't dramatically far from Iron Man in chastening a borderline vain character...though I think it's more emotionally potent for the Doctor, due to the how and why. He defines himself through his work, and even the thought of losing that hits him pretty hard. As for the rest of the film, it works well for the Spiritual-But-Not-Religious crowd with a mix of The Matrix and the average Marvel movie. Got a small problem with the villain: Think I've already seen this character motive in a popular marvel movie, and the preceding film gave more reason to feel sympathy for him. Still love the CGI though, it earned a visual design nomination for good reason. Building the unknown Frame-by-Frame, Fractal-by-Fractal is not an easy task - I haven't seen it taken to this extent, either. The movie's one of marvel's better creations, has surprisingly good humor, and a sequel would be a welcome addition. Cool. So I'm going to play the Mulholland Drive card here and say it's best watched without knowing much on the Story/Premise beforehand. Better for those who prefer realistic character-driven dramas, or just something outside of proverbial media meals. The current Metacritic score is at 99, but that's probably irrelephant.

Good plot and story, good acting in general, some good new characters (Imperial director, Baze, Jyn, Chirrut, the K robot, Saw). + Cool vader scenes, Impressive amount of casualty and sacrifice... Great visual and special effects (I watched the 1080p version. 4k version would be excellent) 8/10

I finally watched Man of Tai Chi the other night. This was a surprising good flick. Admittedly, it was the official movie poster that turned me off the film initially. Decided to give it a chance as we hadn't watched a martial arts movie in awhile. Good story, good dialogue, great choreographed fight scenes all with an undercurrent of Taoist mysticism. There was a nice balance of humour and seriousness as well. If you have epilepsy there is a fight scene where the protag is fighting two opponents in a barge nightclub that engages strobes at one point for about 2 minutes. 7/10 very good film. Recommended if you're into this stuff. Alternate poster:

Thor: Ragnarok Looking forward to this. Ok, Chris Hemsworth in leather armor is a draw factor, but it's the story...really Awesome. Planet Hulk! One of the only new comics I enjoyed.

The latest Honest Trailer features some in-jokes you might get if you had watched the last round of Oscars. And also a really amusing take on Barry Jenkins' "Moonlight".
Aside from that though, I love La La Land. Probably one of the few musicals I could actually like. Nice twist on the classic love story.
In other news... those bastards finally did it! They've adapted this magnificent anime into live action!

Same. A lot of people thought it was stupid, but I loved it as a guilty pleasure. Over-the-top and hyperbolic action like this is my favorite. So much fun.

The look of the main character. Small stature and a silly hairdo.
The stiffness of Keanu. So wooden and unintentionally robotic.
Some of the fight choreography was good but the lead didn't look good doing it.
His costumes were terrible as well. If this was supposed to be humorous it wasn't conveyed in way that i could appreciate.
I would have liked more information on Reeves character. Where he was from and how he amassed so much power. If this was provided i don't recall.
I also found the film kinda boring.
The lighting at times didn't interest me either. Felt too bright and still. Nothing stylish and energetic.
That last fight scene. Ugh.
My favorite scene was when the lead took on that hun gar master. He was amazing and I couldn't believe it when he lost.
Seeing Iko Uwais was an unexpected treat as well.
4/10 for me

I agree with some of those observations, excepting mainly the stature and cosmetic ones. The costuming seemed to convey the main's innocence, ascetic nature and detachment from those trappings. Even when he tried to adopt some of those he was still disconnected from it. Not buying a proper flashy car being another demonstration of this as well as his clothes. The references in the dialogue to taoist mysticism is what really brought this movie up for me. That line between the detective and her boss when she arrests him is hilarious and philosophically leaves it open for interpretation in the unresolved dilemma of recurrent vs. progressive reincarnation. There were quite a few references like that in the film which upped my overall enjoyment of it.
There were also those things about the film that brought my rating of the film down too. I can see from what you enjoy that you'd rate it as you did and can't argue with that.

Not that I would complain about one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time returning to the big screen, but damn, 3-D is such a cheap gimmick. It would've been more interesting if it returned to the big screen with yet another Director's Cut or something. I'm just saying, returning just for the sake of making it in 3-D feels kinda stupid.
