Well, there are numbers and there are perceptions. Right now, there are perceptions from a very vocal crowd that MEA was terrible or at least didn't live up to the standards of the OT. And, tbh, I know several people who don't do message boards or gaming reviews who have found it not as much to their liking as the prior games. They're not the sort to chant "death to BioWare" or anything equally stupid but they might reconsider how they spend their dollars. Regardless of whose "fault", it's not unusual at all for someone to point a finger and say "blame him". Then they get rid of that person and pretend the problem has been removed and they can move forward. This may not be the case here, exactly. Nothing indicates Flynn was fired but this smooth swap seems a little too coincidental for my tastes. Regardless of outcry, the OT sold immensely well. Even people who hated the last 10 minutes of ME3 still generally loved the game overall. Again, back to perception, Hudson can be the "problem solver" and likely learn from the ending of ME3. For the record, I think redoing the ending probably wasn't a cost-effective strategy for BioWare and so they dug in their heels. i think faceman can answer this far better then i can but MEA sold well. It's a critical success. And bioware/EA called it a success in the earnings call and that they are.looking towards the future of the franchise. The more i.think about it, like with the immediate aftermath of the Anthem reveal, i do not.think perception=reality. Though it still sucks loosing Flynn. 1) Saying it sold well isnt saying much as it was a vague statement. I did well on my exam. I got a C+ but at least I passed and didnt fail. So yeah, I did well on my exam. 2) Calling it a success is the same as it sold well. Notice gow EA doesnt get as deep when "praising" MEA as they did with DAI: "Dragon Age: Inquisition captivated fans and critics worldwide as it launched in November, and it quickly became the most successful launch in BioWare history. More than 113 million hours have already been spent exploring the depth and detail of the single-player experience in Dragon Age: Inquisition, and more players are joining each day. Named “Game of the Year” by 32 media outlets around the world, including IGN, Game Informer and the Associated Press, Dragon Age: Inquisition is a true masterpiece from the team at BioWare and a game that is sure to be played for a long time to come." Again, I got a C+ on my exam and thus didnt fail, so it was a success. 3) At the earnings call, EA only mentioned MEA when they were hammered by analyst regarding the failure of MEA. Unlike the DAI earnings call were EA made it a focus of the meeting and waz very proactive with it. With MEA, theg were reactionary and defensive. They said the expectations are strong for the franchise and its future but again, more vagueness. In that reply, he said the Mass Effect franchise, not MEA franchise. I still believe we will get more ME games, but more ME games is not the same as more MEA games. EA could very well still have confidence in the brand but not so much with MEA in particular. We could get a true ME4 or maybe some ME spinoff games that are less RPGish. So yeah, I agree that they have high hopes for the brand, but not the Andromeda brand. Disney may have high hopes for the Star Wars brand and its future, but not with the Prequel Trilogy in particular.

Yeah, sorry, you are right. There was a Jason Schreir 100% accurate rumor that Bioware: Austin was working on a KOTOR reboot, but somehow it turned out not to be true. Weird, with his track record of always knowing everything going on in Bioware with 100% accuracy.

I have every confidence in Casey Hudson. I think he could definitely save Mass Effect and bring it back up to par... provided EA doesn't fuck with him and his team's creative process. Notice how ME3's ending and ME:A's launch only turned out bad because EA was ignorant and forced them both to be released too soon.

This idea is almost as ridiculous as the idea that Drew Karpyshyn is somekind of a perfect messiah here to some people.
You people and your personal cults... jeez.
No one person can "save" Mass Effect, its a team effort.
Besides, im not sure Casey even cares anymore. He may have gotten tired of the entire ip, he did try to torch it after all.
If these people have no passion anymore to make great ME games, then it dies. Or becomes more mediocre than Andromeda ever did, a milking cow.

I can see another ME game being released in 2021/22. I'd personally guess 2020, but 21/22 isn't a bad guess for sure. I'm just thinking EA will want a launch title every year. '18-Anthem '19-DA4 '20-MEA2 Although there is that secret Star Wars new IP incoming. Anyone remember if that was Bioware specifically or just EA? Yeah... Anyone remember that thing when one of the devs (dont remember who) asked what we felt about a dragon age tactics game? Any new news surfaced on the subject? Would love a tactical strategy game ala xcom. Unless they plan to add this feature into the game as something like TW Gwent thingy.

The game to EA was a success. And there wasn't anything vague about those statements. And they mentioned more content for MEA specifically. As far as the other point...how do you know? I haven't seen a list of questions associated with EAs answers. But even so the representative of EA still called it a success, talked about future content for it and ME in general...and wasn't vague about either.

It definitely won't hurt, the silver lining to releasing a sorry piece of crap like MEA is that the only way to go from there is up.
