As mentioned by someone in this thread(?) Bussinesses love to tout out game that went above their expectations. ME: A may not meet EA's lofty goals, but clearly they're very happy with the launch and mentioned that it carried most of the revenue. Like I said, it's just my take on EA's Prepared Comments document and, to me, EA seems to have carefully chosen their words regarding Andromeda. Take it for what you will.

Which is why now you have another round of surveys and a second free trial. They're trying to gauge the game's perception now compared to when it was released, and then they'll decide what to do. That... sounds plausible. Still, sending the same survey they sent before with questions referencing MP only? That's a bit shoddy, isn't it?

That... sounds plausible. Still, sending the same survey they sent before with questions referencing MP only? That's a bit shoddy, isn't it? I got the survey it wasn't just MP. It had one SP question, how likely are you to recommend this game to a friend or family member, and then a comment box to explain. So, and I'm just picking random numbers here, 35% of people said they would recommend it the first time they did the survey. If now 60% of the people say they would, the patches, time, whatever have changed the perception of the game. Also, if people are willing to recommend it, they'll probably buy additional content themselves. No say the number is still 35% or lower. The perception of the game has not changed, and if someone isn't willing to recommend it, they probably won't buy additional content. The MP portion I think is to come to a price point that people will pay and keep playing the MP. May even be looking forward to what kind of rates they can charge for Anthem.

The only thing about the statements is that EA said the numbers were driven by ME:A sales captured in the quarter. So that means a lot of the revenue they're counting towards ME:A for this quarter is the 53 million that they moved from last quarter. A lot of those sales would be from pre-orders or first week sales. When EA looks at how well the game is doing they're going to look at the sales post launch, whether they fell off more than expected, or stayed near their forecast. That will help tell them how much the reviews and word of mouth hurt the game, and how viable it is going forward. Which is why now you have another round of surveys and a second free trial. They're trying to gauge the game's perception now compared to when it was released, and then they'll decide what to do. Actually, Premium Edition sales were the packages that included a back pack, RC car and art book. They sold for around $200 in March. They didn't include a copy of the game, that had to be purchased separately. That's the $53 million dollars that was moved to Q1 from Q4. The prepared statement makes it clear the ME:A pushed digital sales in FY18 Q1.

But, you know, Jason said that "sources familiar with Bioware's plans" told him that the game was a financial failure and a flop and is dead and everyone who ever worked on Mass Effect was taken out back Old Yeller style. Who are you going to believe, Jason and his anonymous sources that totally aren't made up, or an EA investor's call? Checkmate, atheists. Ah, this Jason is another one of those loathly rapscallions, infecting the honest hearts of Mass Effect fans with fear solely for their own selfish gains! I cast a malison upon thee! Into the oven with this corrupt knave! *Shakes fist* He'll never be the proper chap that Lord Nigel Shepard is.

What I was getting at is that by reproducing the exact same survey they sent out months earlier, with a clear focus on multiplayer, people may get pissed and simply dismiss the game altogether in the survey. In so doing, EA will assume perception hasn't changed (or has changed very little) and give up on the title. Thus, sending out an inadequate survey ultimately undermined (distorted the results) what you were trying to accomplish in the first place.

I imagine they would be perfectly capable of going through the responses and throwing out replies from anyone who actually believes it had "a clear focus on multiplayer".

Thus, sending out an inadequate survey ultimately undermined (distorted the results) what you were trying to accomplish in the first place. I doubt it. The SP question was the only one you were allowed to leave a comment on, and it was the first question. Then it asked you do you want to answer some questions on MP. The SP question was definitely the focus. I figure if people liked the game they would comment and say they wanted DLC, and if people didn't like the game they would take the chance to say why. I'm sure they got pretty accurate results on peoples' mindsets.

They're counting it towards these numbers or they would not have said captured in this quarter. Wherever they said that, they're counting the 53 Million from last quarter. They're not counted toward digital sales because they're a physical property item. They would be counted toward overall ME:A purchases, which would include over the counter physical copy sales. ME:A pushing revenue from digital sales would be from digital platforms only since that's what's specified in the Prepared Statements, i.e. Origin, PSN and the XBox store.

I love how people dismissing evidence provide by EA, yet put a lot of trust to some drama queen Kotaku blogger with sources that aren't even from BioWare nor EA.
It is pretty much given now, ME:A had sold well. We don't know how well, but EA was quite clearly happy months ago and now stated it ME:A is the biggest contributor of their increase in sales.
Also EA states digital sales make up for 63% of their overall sales. So, let's go with VHCarts numbers that only shows physical sales. ME:A sold 1.01 million copies on PS4, 0.55 million on XBOX One and 0,10 on PC. So those sales represent 37% of ME:A overall sales, so it means ME:A had actually sold 4,48 millions of copies!
That's a great result, considering EA's expected sales numbers were 3 million copies sold.

The 63% of digital sales EA was talking about was for the entire company so that includes DLC, microtransactions, and mobile gaming. With that said they do say how much of their game sales are digital in this comment.

Lots of misinformation here presented as fact. 1) As a previous poster said, that digital component is all-encompassing. It includes everything from FIFA ultimate team to the critically acclaimed Plants vs Zombies micro transactions. 2) It's VGChartz, not VHCarts... and since when is VGChartz considered reputable? 3) Nowhere did they say Andromeda is the "biggest contributor" - it "drove" sales for full-game downloads... because it was the only new full-game download that released during the quarter. 4) EA expected 3m copies solid in ONE WEEK, not in total.

It's a shame most ME threads descend into some kind of argument. I'd rather just wait and see what the Q&A's are, rather that having to wade through arguments to get any kind of update.

Checkmate, atheists.Hahaha, that last sentence

But he never said it was a financial failure, or a flop, or a dead game - you're just venting your frustration, and that's understandable considering we've yet to hear anything about DLC, and until we do - it looks like Jason was right. Hey now, for you, it's "Jason", cause ya gotta stay mysterious!
