OK...I'm pretty sure this scene came from those Wheel of Time books...two of the 'heros managed to drag some theif/assassin off the streets (or whatever) to get information from him...the guy was being difficult about it so as a coercive ploy one hero turns to the other and says something like, 'bring me a basket, some rats, reeds and some salt..?' and the theif guy starts screaming, 'Not the salt, not the salt!' and then he spills his guts. I think they release him and then one hero turns to the other and asks what he was gonna do with all that, and the other guy says, 'I don't know, I just let his imagination fill in the details.' I t went something like that, and I THINK it was from those books...does anyone know? and just to keep with topic- I would quite happily spend the rest of my life wearing sweat pants and t-shirts, I hate fashion and I see no need for anyfoot wear that isn't runners/sneakers. That....doesn't sound familiar, although it's been a very long time since I have read the earlier books. It also doesn't sound much like any of the main characters (who could be termed hero, however loosely). Can't recall that one, sorry. And yes. Fashion is the worst.

I was hoping it was those books...I just remember laughing my ass off at that scene, I can't remember where I read it though...One of the female mages in WoT had a habit of grabbing her braid behind her back though...right? I remember the dumbest of details sometimes...lol

That one is definitely right. Nynaeve was her name. Ha! Got one! And Rand was stabbed/sliced by a tainted blade and the wound was slowly killing him/causing him to become tainted in the first book?...man it's been so long...maybe 18-19 years.. I've read a few fantasy series and they kinda get jumbled when I try to remember them....old age creepin' up I guess....

There are a bazillion characters in WoT is one thing.
I always kind of liked Galad for some reason.... and Elayne.

Mat picked up a cursed dagger from a cursed city, that was slowly killing until the Aes Sedai healed him, while Rand had received an unhealable wound from Ishmael/Moridin during their fight at the end of The Great Hunt.

I think he had brown hair... He was the "master of the sword dance." He basically was an extreme sword master super specialist warrior, whenever they would fight he would "never get touched." And like, there was one time they were outnumbered RJ was like "Even though he wasn't hurt, even Galad seemed to be strained slightly and was tired of all the perfect fighting" So basically so bad*** he was never not the most bad*** person in the room. I thought the villains also clobbered those in GoT, Moghedien, Asmodeus, Ishmael, they were like biblical satanic terrors not merely kind of jerkish medievalists. They also sported a kind of gender diversity I found sort of interesting (and was mirrored with heroes like Birgitte) Actually Birgitte was probably my favorite protagonist, archer supreme.

Damn! I thought I had that one...*sigh* Ah, I guess I was kinda close... The only other character that keeps popping into mind isn't from WoT, he's from The Darksword Trilogy... Simkin...an odd skinny guy with powerful magic. Damn.

I'm kind of partial to Terry Goodkind and his Sword of Truth series...mainly because SoT had Gratch and I loved that big ugly hairy gar...I really did. Cara was pretty good too.

I agree about woody allen, i agree about the hobbit but i thought they did a great job with lotr to be honest, only major flaw for me was leaving tom bombadil out. Oh, fuck Tom Bombadil. I hope that was ironic. He was the most annoying prat in the history of annoying prats.

Every popular kiddie thing since MY popular kiddie thing (TRANSFORMERS G1) has sucked big time. -Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ( To paraphrase George Carlin: "He's not going to attack TMNT, is he? YES, HE'S GOING TO ATTACK TMNT!!) -Cartoons that tried to be Ren & Stimpy and failed -Power Rangers -Harry Potter -Tamagotchis -Pokemans -Digimon (never got that popular but it annoyed me just the same) -DBZ -Spongebawb Annoyingpants -All anime made since about 1998 or so. And Evangelion too just because -Young Adult Teenage Dystopian Angst With Optional Vampires -Bayformers (except the first one, kinda) -Pokemans Round II: The Mobile App Take it away, Angry Bill (IMPENDING PROFANITY):

Leonardo DiCrapio is overrated and a shitty actor. I'd rather watch Keanu Reeves.
Technically whichever post gets the most likes loses?

I dislike most high fantasy and I feel like it's just a writer masturbating mostly to his/her own purple prose. Give me the magic, give me me the hero story arc, please don't make me age an entire decade to get to the end. Come at me.

I think George R R Martin and the other 'gritty, edgy' fantasy writers write unrealistic twaddle. Their characters have no basis in reality and represent a depressing version of wish fulfillment on their part. So there.

My excuse is that I don't consider Cowboy Bebop anime because there is character development, the humor is understandable by Americans, and the plot makes sense. (Seriously, I do like a lot of anime, though most of it is pretty frickin' old.)Well, we had better end the Transformers G1 discussion before any more hardcore fans notice. Or we could have a massive f iretrucking flamewar about Transformers G1, Hot Rod, Prodimus Rime, TRUKK NOT MUNKY, and Unicron's underwear, turn this entire thread into a giant soul-sucking black hole disaster of a miserable failure, drive hundreds of posters away, both get banned, then drink two cases of Miller Lite.

That's a good point. My excuse is that I don't consider Cowboy Bebop anime because there is character development, the humor is understandable by Americans, and the plot makes sense. While I get your point, if something is animated and made in Japan, it is anime, just as something animated and made in America (and certain other English speaking countries) is a cartoon. The country of origin is literally the only thing that decides the name. /weeb
