The unpopular opinions thread.

Blues music and Jazz music are both monumentally overrated. While 80s pop music and disco are underrated as far as concept and performance are concerned.

A good deal of jazz has zero structure and seems to be a group of musicians just wildly doing their own thing.


A good deal of blues has the exact same structure but just add in some great guitar solos, the lyrical topics are also all mostly the same.

Talent of the people playing the instruments? Excellent. Content of music and lyrics? Boring and overrated. (And I know I'll just get killed for say so. )

I've never even seen it and really I don't want to. People look at me like I'm some kind of psychopath when I tell them this 

well I liked maroon 5 back in 2004 (like before they were mainstream) and I've often found that I liked stuff before it was mainstream and disliked them once they made it mainstream, there are some exceptions of course

I used to like a lot of the mainstream stuff back in the pre y2k era, but I don't understand the  constant push to copy existing works, its one thing to parody something or take the odd naff song and completely change the way its delivered (like disturbed did with sound of silence) but having 10+ made on TV groups produce the same carbon copy tracks year after year is taking its toll, I wont even have those trashy shows on , I'd rather watch the pause screen for an hour than let them assault my ears ...

Just replace the 1st part of the line with anything you want, just use the same song structure and chords to every single song, multiply by every blues song ever written.

Make sure all the greatest artists of our time all say they were influenced by the blues and yet produce music nothing like the blues.

I don't mind blues music at all. My dad is a huge fan so I grew up around his music all the time. I think it's cool that he has a passion for it and collects all kinds of stuff from records to books. There's a small festival every year in August called Bluesfest that my dad goes to. I think he tried to get my brother and I to go one year but it's not really my cup of tea. Still, it could be cool just to hang out with mah pa!

I got to see BB King with my dad, when I first started playing guitar. That was pretty cool.. although I didn't appreciate it as much then.

True that, not to sound morbid or anything, but life's short, best to do what you can with your loved ones while you can, that way you don't have any regrets down the line. Besides, checking out a bluesfest at least once would be worth it just for the novelty of it.

I wish I could mine my property to prevent trespassers from walking their dogs across my lawn.

Though that might not be so unpopular here as it would be with the neighbors.

...Though cleaning up a bloody pit in my yard wouldn't be much fine either I suppose, but either way I have to clean up my fucking yard...

Least that way it would have some sense of permanence to it.
