Unpopular Opinion: peaches, jelly and pineapples do NOT belong in salty food. EW. But what about pineapple and pizza? It's a must! I looove blue cheese but most people don't share the sentiment.

Nah, I don't like mixing sour / salty with blisteringly sweet taste, whenever I mix opposing tastes my jaw locks and I feel sick. And I think I know why - I always put ham on my Pizza, if I put pineapples on it its a bad combination because when meat has a sweet taste / smell its a sign its severely spoiled and should not be eaten at any cost. Thats why it makes me sick.

Pepperoni, pineapple, jalapeño makes for the ultimate pizza pie. Also blue cheese is delicious on buffalo wings but not salad! I'll stick with Ceasar, thanks. Unpopular opinion: High heeled shoes are not sexy. All they do is fuck up women's feet and make them walk funny. Which can be amusing but not attractive.

Unpopular opinion: High heeled shoes are not sexy. All they do is fuck up women's feet and make them walk funny. Which can be amusing but not attractive. I agree 100%. I don't like high heels at all, all I see is deformed feet, squished toes, arthritis and stupid impracticality. Bonus points for not being able to walk with flat soled shoes or barefoot anymore because of Achilles tendon shrinkage. None of those things trigger a good feeling in my brain. Healthy non-tortured non-malformed womanly feet are sexy, aesthetically pleasing and attractive. High heels is none of that. The attraction of high heels is as alien to me as that tradition in Japan where those Geishas folded their feet in half to make them sexy small. Ew.

Pepperoni, pineapple, jalapeño makes for the ultimate pizza pie. This man knows what's up. Best combination (although sometimes I trade out pepperoni for bacon). Unpopular opinion: High heeled shoes are not sexy. All they do is fuck up women's feet and make them walk funny. Which can be amusing but not attractive. Also agree. Stilettos especially. Although I think shoes in general are a woman-to-woman thing. I've never seen a man spontaneously compliment a woman on her choice of footwear, only other women.

-Rape culture in the US is alive and well in many various ways. Sometimes I'm tempted to say you would have to be raped and go through the court system to see this clearly- but you know- I'll give all the lucky folks out there who haven't been raped and through the court system the benefit of a doubt mmkay? - Salt and sweet is a primo combo, FITE ME. - The rate of new labels and slapping a label upon a whole group or person just to dismiss them is Too Damn High. It makes me SMH all of the time nowadays. IMO there are reasonable people and unreasonable people. That is all. There are unreasonable people in all groups. - I think criticizing someone about their looks is extremely distasteful. If someone's opinion about someone else starts with "X is ugly therefore" which is usually filled with excuses and rationales about why that person isn't entitled to breathe air etc, I lose all respect for people who think like that. It's not like I'm above knowing or seeing that not everyone is a 10 but rather that isn't my final bottom line for enjoying another person or not despite that I enjoy and see beauty in people. - Shallow people are extremely boring and they suck and there are far more shallow people than not shallow people.

Oh yes they are Counter argument: I know a woman who wore that kind of shoes frequently for a couple years. Now she needs a rather complex surgery for both big toe joints because they're completely ground down. She also has to do Achilles tendon exercises because they're too short. She can barely walk a hundred meters without severe pain now. Doing stuff that ruins your body is insane and has absolutely zero to do with sexy. Knowing that is already enough to make heels look stupid.

I don't like family photos and never hang them up in my house. Whoa buddy! (It's supposedly a rule for interior designers that personal photos shouldn't dominate the decor, but personally, I LOVE photographs of my family and as someone who has always lived a continent away or multiple states away from my kin, it means a lot to me)

I got one of my younger sister and me in Iceland back during a family holiday in 96

-Rape culture in the US is alive and well in many various ways. Sometimes I'm tempted to say you would have to be raped and go through the court system to see this clearly- but you know- I'll give all the lucky folks out there who haven't been raped and through the court system the benefit of a doubt mmkay? What do you consider to be a part of rape culture? I think that's where a lot of the disconnect is with the detractors of the concept. When some people hear the term, they think of the controversy over "Blurred Lines" or this supposed rape joke at E3, both of which I think are pretty contrived as far as controversies go.
But I don't think reasonable people look at the Brock Turner trial and think "Yeah, this is fine. This is how a civilized society should handle this kind of atrocious disregard for a fellow human being." And then there are those horror stories you hear about regarding the things that are said to victims when they report their assault or during the trial. People--decent people (which I would venture to say most are)--recognize that there's something wrong there.
It's just that some are hesitant to call that "rape culture" because they feel that the blame should be placed on the individuals rather than the collective "culture" of which they are a part. Which I do get. A lot of the cases we're talking about are due to the wrong people being in positions of power. All it takes is one judge, one lawyer, one police officer to make what is already a horrific ordeal even worse. But why should an asshole judge who cares more about rapist's career prospects than a victim's well-being cast blame on anyone but himself? The vast majority of people recognize him for the backwards dickweed that he is. So why make it into a societal issue?
The thing is, though, these aren't just a handful of isolated incidents. The volume and frequency of these reports serve as a steady stream of mounting evidence that there is indeed an intrinsic, systemic flaw in the way our infrastructure handles these cases. We should go after the individuals, sure, but there are larger-scale interventions we should take as well. Specialized training. More restrictive cross examination protocol. Appropriate mandatory sentencing. Raising awareness of the kind of suffering that survivors go through, both from the crime itself and the attitudes of others. Whether or not we want to call that a response to "rape culture" is beside the point. There is a problem here. We all see it. Let's lose the semantics and talk about how to resolve it.

Heels have their appeal aesthetically. And can have their place at a nice dinner or other event where you're seen but don't have to do much.
What's facepalming to me is chicks who wear stuff like that to clubs and then either fuck up their feet or go barefoot (in order to avoid fucking up their feet). Congratulations, you've defeated the purpose of footwear.

Rape is a crime, and your last post discusses the way in which the legal system handles rape. That would seem to be a political issue from where I'm standing.

Fair enough, but the bulk of the post was about the social tepidness towards the term. So if theoretically, a social issues thread were to be made, would it be fine for such discussion to go there, despite the occasional overlap with policy discussion?

I love how often this thread trends back to Pineapple + Pizza. Pineapple + pizza is but an incomplete combination, it requires the addition of black olives, mushroom and onions to be whole.
