There are definitely differences between legitimate straight allies and those who proclaim that they are pro-lgbt but their actions are not. The first kind are very valuable indeed. They listen to lgbt people, try to understand issues that affect lgbt people and don't talk over us. They support us getting more lgbt content and representation in media. And there are some people on BSN that belong to this kind (you know who you are, and I love you all  ).

And then there are the second kind, where they claim they support lgbt people but they don't listen to us. They are against lgbt people getting more representation in the media. Or they come into a discussion about lgbt topics only to cause disruption and make light of our issues, for example some people in this thread and the character romance thread.

It is quite easy to see which group these "straight allies" belong to.

Yeah, that was clearly what Panda meant.  It's one thing to just claim to be an ally, but if you go around spouting toxic things about gay people then you can't really back up that claim.  So it is meaningless coming from someone like that.
