Out of curiosity, in what way was it "super cringey" and "out of a Disney movie"? I actually like how they had flirt options like that rather than just very suave and overtly sexual ones.

Still not as cringey (to me) as, say, Liara's mom's death scene, Shep's lame-o wheedling of Jeong (particularly Paragon choices) while trying to save the Feros colony, Ash/Kaidan pissy speech on Horizon in ME2, their attitude throughout most of ME3, or Miranda's bitchy attitude (hey, I just worked for two years to resurrect you now I'm going to treat you like shit) at the beginning of ME2 - just to name a few things off the top of my head. My point? Mass Effect and cringe have always been friends. My...LITTLE WING!!!! I had trouble looking at the screen after that "boss fight" on Noveria. It was bad.

Inquisition is Bioware's best game when it comes to LGBT+ representation, but Andromeda is definitely better than the Shepard Trilogy. Heck I almost romanced Dorian once.

Inquisition is Bioware's best game when it comes to LGBT+ representation, but Andromeda is definitely better than the Shepard Trilogy. If you like Jaal. Though I love Reyes, his romance is inferior to every romance other than the one with Gil. No, Kaidan Alenko was better, even knowing that it was done better with FemShep.

I thought DA:I handled LBGTQ issues better, I found them more meaningful, but ME:A certainly followed that framework. I fucking hated that they explained Krem, and did it in one of the most hamfisted ways possible. Would have been much better to just not bring it up and let players put two and two together from meeting a male character voiced by Jennifer Hale.

In any real social situation I don't see asking anyone about their personal life unless/until we became friends or unless/until it became important in some story/plot situation.

I don't remember any character really getting into it in a meaningful way unless the Inquisitor outright asks about it.

Some dialog choices make it a really good scene, particularly with Iron Bull's input.

With Jaal now being bi, ME:A is definitely an improvement from ME:T in term of lgb romance. Though ME:A could still use some improvement such as Gil's romance (e.g. lack of content, duty to procreate etc.). I'd say lgb romance in ME:A has slight edge over DA:I due to the amount of lgb romance options.
Now with respect to lgbt representation, DA:I is still the best, hands down. More effort and care were apparent in DA:I, while some aspects of lgbt representation are a bit problematic in ME:A.

They can remove romances from their games altogether and it won't bother me at all. There are plenty of RPG games out there without romances. Go play one of them. BioWare is known for this stuff and has been for the entirety of its existence.

Jaal's relationship with Scott is rather amazing, I'll give them that! It's my favorite BioWare romance hands down.

Reyes was so creepy and to the point of sexually harassing me. Even when I clearly avoided any type of flirting he would still come on to me, pretty much shoving it in my face.

Would have been much better to just not bring it up and let players put two and two together from meeting a male character voiced by Jennifer Hale. You're right. It got me thinking when I first met Krem. The voice and the looks actually. But I didn't feel the explanation to be hamfisted. It seemed to fit the situation. As for gay characters, and since I'm playing DAI again, I never played a gay character, so I never got to see the romances, but Dorian is still my favorite when it comes to gay characters. I think he's much better developed than Gil.

Many of Bioware's gay characters are stereotypes and it's really not interesting. Gil is hands down the worst though and literally triggers me with how offensive his writing is, whoever wrote him must be a homophobic troll or clueless.

In Inquisition, Dorian being so central to the story, joining late in the game, being hyper-attractive compared to every other male in the entourage and leading the female PC on was a bad way to handle the matter as it forced a re-roll after many hours invested in the game. God forbid LGBT players get a gay character that's central to the story and is attractive, right? The only problem with Dorian is that he didn't say "No." the first time a female IQ flirted with him. After getting two story relevant gay squadmates, and an even distribution of romances, without needing to remind BW, MEA was a huge step down from Inquisition. Giving the gay character a plot line that revolves 90% of the time around his duty to procreate was such a stupid choice. And the author's insistence that characters, whose sexuality plays a huge role in their story are better and more realistic than characters, who just happen to be gay, is just insulting.

"Do you think BioWare writes good gay characters?"
"AS A HETERO, I HAVE SOME VERY IMPORTANT INSIGHT INTO THIS ISSUE, AND IT IS THAT GAY CHARACTERS SHOULD BE REVEALED EARLY SO I DON'T GET TRICKED INTO LIKING THEM"
I guess it's nice for the author of the article that he enjoyed Dorian and Gil, but speaking for my own gay self, they are both poorly written, do nothing to break new ground, and are offensive as shit.
