Concerning Our Forums

Just a really bad decision on their part. A really good source of viable feedback goes down the drain, some kind of bizarre thought that everyone uses facebook and twitter. The loss of a legit avenue to actually keep people sticking around and engaged in their games in the two yeas between games.

I joined back before they branded it as the BSN (can't even remember what we called it back then, just the Bioware forums I suppose?).

My best memories were in the days before Mass Effect 1 came out, devs were so active on the forums then and I felt like we were talking to them about the way the game was shaping up all the time. It's weird, but it felt like we were really contributing to the way the game took shape. ME1 went through so many changes from when we first saw in game footage to what we eventually got. The forumites were a huge part of that process in my opinion.

We don't have anything like as many members now, but in some ways the community felt smaller and more tight knit back then that it does to me today. Perhaps thats something that was lost when the EA buyout happened and BW games started to go a bit more main stream.

BSN was an inclusive and informed community with an impartial moderation team. I was very sad to see it go!

Sucked to hear and at first I thought it was a joke but April Fool's had gone by. When I saw the announcement on the forum I was very disappointed in BioWare. Just another mistake in what was looking like a hard fall from grace. For a while, I posted regularly like always and when the countdown to shutdown was imminent, I sought out a new forum with familiar faces. First, there was Fextralife. YUGE forum and was pretty sophisticated and their userbase was pretty large. It almost reminded me of Tekken Zaibatsu in its layout but something about it felt so impersonal. Then I heard CS was making his own forum, "LOL, next." Then I browsed the MP forum again, and saw Cyonan, our Great Leader was making a forum with the most familiar faces from MP and SP forums. I registered here as well and after about a week, it was clear that BSNUf was the place to be. On the last few weeks, I decided to go out in a blaze of glory, posting Bruce Blitz rants in a string of threads and some naughties in others. Mods were being assholes anyways, so I thought I might as well give them something to do.

Glad this place has grown so much and it feels cool to have been here from the start. There are still some users from old school BSN I miss, and I wish more redditors came here as this forum feels like a much better organized and stable place to communicate. I just hope we can open that direct line of interaction with Bioware employees again.

Generally what happens is a troll creates a thread, with the purpose of baiting others into inappropriate topics. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. I think the last time I saw a thread that was teetering on the precipice was when a troll claimed Liam is the least liked companion because he's black. That thread blew up and went on for a while. Folks should really learn to ignore troll threads, but some just can't help themselves.

Honestly? After everything I see in the old forums and quite possibly here, I believe BioWare's better off without BSN, and good riddance.

They say time is a healer. I'm much more open to the logic of the decision (even if I would rather it hadn't) than I felt at the time.
