Yes and no. Yes because the game rightly needed to be criticized for it's shortcomings. No because the overall outcry by people was atrocious and what I hate most about gaming culture sometimes. Yup that was pretty much my conclusion in the video, it was good that this sent a message to developers but still sad this happened to a mass effect game.

I never treated it harshly, other people did, and many jumped on the bandwagon because they love to be involved with what they perceive to be the popular view.
It deserved better, and those moaners are probably why we won't get DLC.

I still intend to create a thread making a full review on Andromeda and showing how it is weak in absolutely every aspect: exploration, graphics, animations, dialogue, characters, story, menus, performance, and so on. Only combat is the only thing that can be fun in this game, but it still has a lot of problems. Can't wait; I am sure it will be fascinating reading.

Well, I personally don't feel I was too harsh on it - I stand by my original view that I'd give it a high 7/low 8, making it the weakest ME game in my opinion but even a weak ME game is better than most other franchise's good ones. However - the last game I saw get this reception was Aliens: Colonial Marines. Compare that to what we got in MEA and ask yourself the question of whether that's fair. That will be your answer. Yeah this got as much if not more hate then aliens colonial marines and no mans sky, but ME:Andormeda is leagues better then both of those games combined.

To answer the question, does the people were too harsh with MEA? no but mostly yes people were too harsh. While the facial animation and the bugs were too numerous and the game should have been delayed for a few months and deserves some of the criticsm, the reaction to it was overblown. I see games releasing with worse animation or at least, more buggy state and people do criticize them but not to the point of the reaction MEA had at its release where you would swear they were reacting like the sky was falling. And the thing is, everyone is entitle to their own opinion about the game, the problem is MEA was facing criticism from people who did not even play the game basing their judgments solely on the pew die pie videos or some of them are paranoid about the SJW conspiracy that for some reasons ruined the game...

DA2 had a similar reception and got three DLCs because the company expected revenue based on their own data.

I think that most people who criticized the game tended to have valid points, which may or may not have been exaggerated(as they are for any game) That said a combination of the memes being largely about animation issues in the game as well as BioWare being viewed as the "SJW developer" these days invited a lot of hate from third parties who never played the game but either saw one bad animation or that Cora had "tumblr hair" and went on a rant about how bad the game was. Of course I still stand by my opinion that the game is the worst in the Mass Effect series, even considering the pre-EC ending to ME3. Yeah letting their political views shine too strongly in this game did not help their case much at all. I don't know if this game made me as mad though as the original ME3 endings. That still stings. Well with the ME3 ending it shit all over our choices throughout the trilogy. While ignoring our choices wasn't exactly new territory for the franchise at that point, the end of ME3 was the last point for them to acknowledge anything we did and instead the opted to make everything we did up to that point irrelevant all in one single moment. It got such a strong emotional response from the fanbase because we were all so invested in our Shep's stories since in a game franchise that had been marketed as though our choices mattered a great deal for the last 5 years. I do however think that ME3 up until those last 5 minutes is a good game as a whole though, and that once you get past the emotional response as a result of investment in the series the game as a whole is still good with the caveat that it has a shit ending(even post-EC raises that at best to mediocre, imo). Though I intend to give ME:A another go. I wasn't feeling it the first time through but with patches maybe things have gotten better.

Actually, it's ridiculous to think that the media's reception wouldn't have an impact, and the media jumped on the bandwagon like everyone else. The difference between ME:A and DA2 is that although a lot of players moaned about DA2, the media received the game in a very positive light. That's why it ended up with so many DLC's. If it had controversy like ME:A had, I bet it would've had fewer DLC's than it had.

On the topic of DA2 one thing I do hope BioWare doesn't do when they decide to pick Mass Effect up again is practically ignore any potential good things that ME:A actually did.
As much as DA2 wasn't a good game, it feels like because of the overwhelming negative response it got from the fanbase that BioWare was a bit scared to implement things that actually did work in Inquisition.

When you have so many opinions on the game out there moving in both sides of the spectrum (loved it, hated it) I'd say that in some cases it was harsh. However, taking aside pure hate, the heavy criticism this game received was valid imo. A triple A tittle that on the technical department performed worse than any other previous title even when they claimed a million times that they would polish/fix before launch, it's no wonder people went mad at the game. A major consensus for a relatively lackluster storyline and inconsistent writing, the first good thing that comes to mind to pretty much everyone about this games is graphics. And that is just sad, but it's the truth.

Either way, it's all a bit too late for people to start reevaluating their views on Andromeda and start to sing the game's praises - the damage has well and truly been done. ^^This.

No and yes on my part.
At launch, it was a f***ing embarrassment of glitches and just plain broken on the PS4. All of my patreon recipients were justified in saying it was going to suck. They predicted it because they were hearing about the mess in Montreal.
1.05 pretty much allowed me to play it through and give me real time to appreciate what I had, but I saw the diamond (not the turd... say otherwise and I'll mentally rip your still beating heart from your chest) that was there.
Played the original trilogy on Unreal rig and guess what? I missed Andromeda. Tried Fallout 4 for another run... nope. Far Cry 4... nope.
Then 1.09. The diamond has a few flaws but it's still a diamond.
I already apologized for running my mouth. I stopped being Uncle Cyan and was this freakazoid who was out of his favorite drug of choice. BioWare is not a game studio. Not to me. It's the only studio where I see passion and soul going into a canvas that is filled with art, music and interactivity that makes me live out a fantasy for a while. I just wish EA markets them properly instead of recycling other companies bad ideas. BioWare deserves and needs better.

Considering we know MEA made a profit (even labelled as a 'driving force' for Q1 2017) and, as EA themselves pointed out, recieved over 100 reviews giving it 80% or higher, I can't believe the internet backlash didn't have something - or, more likely, a lot - to do with what's now become of the dev team and the game in general.
If the game had sold the exact same numbers but hadn't been used as a memeable punching bag to 'punish SJWare', I'm certain DLC would definitely be on the way. The infuriating thing right now is that every time the official BioWare or Mass Effect Twitter accounts post anything (with the exception of the recent tragic news about Corey Gaspur), pretty much every reply is people begging for DLC and using #SaveTheQuarians, rather than GIFs of pre-patch Sara or whatever - but I feel like that pivot has been too little too late.
Maybe I just have too much faith in people, but I still deep down believe that if BioWare released a trailer for a DLC - quarians, geth, new gear, a super well animated one-liner from Ryder about thinking we'd seen the last of her/him - people would lose their minds and be breaking down the doors to get their hands on it.
People love a good redemption story - but even with all the articles and videos popping up about how MEA was perhaps judged too harshly, I just feel like that time has passed.

Oh ok well I wait anxiously to read your in-depth opinions! But if I may ask what bothered you about the combat? Mostly the autocover system (the entire cover system is weird, but the autocover is annoying), the fact I can no longer command when my companions should use their powers (nor customize their weapons), and the mini-map was replaced by that "north-west-south-east" thing on the top of the map, which was a horrible choice and makes things VERY confusing IMO. I still miss the "pause wheel" too, but I understand they wanted to change to a more "action pace", but I really feel like now combat lacks strategical thought. I miss all those handicaps. I miss my situational awareness. I can't tactically do much but just solo it and hope my companions are doing something.
