I miss a "I'll buy it on 50% off sale if it has reasonable reviews and appeals to me personally" option in the poll, so I didn't vote.
I'll certainly never preorder anything again in my life, should've learned the lesson before with SWTOR's Shadow of Revan expansion prelaunch desaster - but I've absolutely learned it now.
Generally speaking, it will depend strongly on the game itself, not on whoever developed or published it. I don't see anything about Anthem that would even remotely interest me even from an aesthetic or design point of view, so I'll definitely skip that one.

OK now it's time for someone else to save this post and throw it back in my face. I will be SHOCKED if Anthem is anything more than a mediocre Destiny clone. I think it will have all the same problems of the other Bioware MP games, plus the problems of Destiny. In other words I think it will be a dud. Measured however you want to measure... we'll know the truth in our hearts. (P.S. yes MEA is also a dud.) I will CHANGE MY SIGNATURE to read about how I was wrong and am an idiot, etc. if it turns out I'm wrong. Someone save this post, check back with me in a year or whatever. It's absolutely going to be a Destivision clone. EA wants in on that sweet sweet Game As A Service action, and EVERY hint at the game's structure so far has pointed dead ass in that direction. There's one idiot ass stalwart defender in the Anthem forum here, not sure if I saved their name, who pops up every single time someone uses the D word to just scream NUH UH over and over again with absolutely no argument. I so want to throw it right back in their fucking face when the game launches. The wishful bunch are hoping to see Borderlands. I keep telling them "shared world" means Destivision. It's the lock of the year. But... but.., but it'll be social and last 10 years...

Man. They fucked up worse than I thought. I didn't want a middle ground "easy" answer. Of course I expected a good bit of people to feel like I do, but results like that on a site that is specifically designed for Bioware? Get rekt.

I know I'm not buying Anthem (unless it's something completely different from a "Destiny" like game, and we all know that wont be the case), and I'll probably not buy the next Dragon Age either, simply because I already regret 2 buys in a row and I lost my faith in Bioware. I still want them to come back from mediocrity and be a great company again, and if they do, I'll be happy to buy more games from them, but for now I'll just say I'm not buying anything more unless various reviews across various sites praise the crap out of whichever new game they release.

It's absolutely going to be a Destivision clone. I know, right? I feel like the first half of my .signature bet is safe -- when a company deliberately markets their new product to look like another popular product -- they did that on purpose! Now this doesn't preclude Anthem from actually being successful... the second half of my bet is that it won't be, though. Two analogies: Android phones are deliberately like iPhones (in that sense that every smartphone is a copy of the iPhone). And... they're actually more successful as measured by market share. Dauntless (the new game that Billy Buskell is working) is deliberately like Monster Hunter. This is clear from the marketing and trailers. Remains to be seen if it will be successful.

Nah... the Mass Effect series was the only thing I was interested in. I don't like Fantasy so I never bothered with Dragon Age and I also think Star Wars is dull and boring so those games don't catch my attention either. Not sure what Anthem is gonna be like, but given the recent history of Bioware since ME2 I doubt I will play it. Bought MEA for the MP only (still haven't played the SP past the part where you get your ship so I can open these strike team loot crates) and was disappointed. There are companies that do a much better job fixing bugs and balancing their games properly. So unless Anthem will be superduper polished and balanced and possibly the GOTY I won't spend money on it.

which in turn is a Halo rip-off (understandably), which in turn is a generic space marine game that can trace its roots back every shooter ever made + the designers read Starship Troopers that one time (and maybe The Forever War too) Having played the Marathon trilogy many times, I thought it was the biggest influence on Halo.

Yes that's the biggest immediate influence of course. I was deliberately being dismissive of Halo as a generic shooter. It did innovate in a few ways: the 2-gun limit, the regenerating shields (this is actually a HUGE gameplay innovation), the '30 seconds of fun' design. It's a good game but it's also old and its design is old, now.
