Yeah, again, more of your usual nonsense...not unexpected Well, Ryder remains a socially awkward loser for the entire 10-hour demo, and that's not going make anyone want to play any more. Bioware could have potentially mitigated this problem if female Ryder actually looked like her attractive model counterpart (instead of a buggy-eyed oddity). "Nobody fucks down, they fuck up, or across" - and when we're dealing with a fantasy world where banging aliens is one of the developer's main selling points... Why is it that Scott looked like the model he was based on but Sara wasnt? Almost as if Bioware went out of their way to "tone down" Sara's beauty but didnt with Scott.

Honestly I feel like it's going to have to be Ryder or race-selection for the next game.
Ryder and Shepard are such polar opposites in their experience & background at the start of their respective games; any new human protagonist would have to exist somewhere on a spectrum between the two and probably just feel like a weaker version of either. Experienced soldier and freshfaced newcomer are both decent archetypes to follow the adventures of - 'kinda experienced but not that much' doesn't have that hook.
However, if the character's race was up to player choice, that creates a different gimmick to make the experience interesting. Lots has been made of how the Inquisitor doesn't feel as solid a character as Hawke, but on the other hand, Hawke can't be a qunari...
As for the plot of the game itself, I feel like BioWare's definitely got themselves in a bit of a corner - risk continuing Andromeda, or try to squirm out of it only to fall right into the issue of how do you do a non-Andromeda non-ME3-ending-retconning game that isn't a prequel?
Honestly my two main preferences for the future of Mass Effect are these...
1) Andromeda sequel, Ryder as protagonist, continue the story and learn from the MEA feedback
2) New Milky Way set game, protagonist race selection, set ~50 years after ME3 and handwave the endings (Shepard defeated the Reapers, no one knows exactly what happened, Synthesis ignored as factoring it in would be infinitely complicated)

You have no legitimate points to make until you finish the game...sorry, just the way it is. Your empty screeds will remain just that until you correct this... Nah that's bullshit. If you make a 100 hour game, make sure the first 10 aren't complete garbage. "Maybe the next 90 won't be shit?" And "But it gets better!" Isn't what you should be going for as devs when you're making a game. I have watched a complete 5 hour play-through that skips as much of the awful bits as possible - so essentially, the meatiest parts of the game, story-wise. And it's incredibly boring and bland. The villain is awful. The writing remains immature throughout. The ending blows. This is my opinion. And you might disagree, but honestly, why should you care? It's a 4. And I saved myself $70 (or rather, $19.99).

I'm not saying Shepard is a two bit hero. Nor am i saying he isn't popular. He clearly is. Hell i enjoyed playing Shepard immensely. Just saying i prefer Ryder from a character and role playing sense. I think in general, video games represent an escape from reality for players, and along those lines, they prefer to play the archetype heroes that they'll never be in real life. That's why people love Shepard - whereas Ryder is more of a common man/woman, who also happens to be a complete, socially awkward loser that nobody respects. It's no surprise that people dislike the character. Then when the shit do I get a planet named after me?

For the record, my first play through was 60ish hrs give or take a few for being idle. So, they didn't even come close to a 100 hr game. There's this whole thing called pacing. You shouldn't throw all your eggs in one basket in the first 10 hrs.

Staying on topic, the only way I could deal with Ryder in a hypothetical MEA2 is if it takes place 10 years later. That way Ryder is older, hardened by experience, and less....teenager like in his/her dialog and personality.
Also Bioware would need tp write in new companions that are more akin to the ME2 squad.

The game printed money for CDPR and won many GOTY awards as well as high review scores. its first ten hours or so is boring as piss (imo) White Orchard is somehow worse then the Hinterlands and as far as i can tell the game does not get really good until Novigrad. And gaaawwwd dreading going back to skellige.

I think a five year break wouldn't be a bad time to give Ryder and the initiative time to grow...but i kinda want the kett to strike back in the Dlc.

Y'know, when I first read the thread name, I started to think... ...then suddenly, my AK had the magazine removed, and I was being smacked over the head with it. ...something about the presence of "if" if the holes in the walls are to be trusted. Nah that's bullshit. If you make a 100 hour game, make sure the first 10 aren't complete garbage. "Maybe the next 90 won't be shit?" And "But it gets better!" Do awards really matter? I remember people decrying DAI getting awards, saying it is an example of corrupt games media. Then the same must be true of the Witcher, right? ...I'll be waiting here. For the hypocrisy.
