agreed, although I liked Ishamael quite a bit. Less so as Moridin. But in general the villains weren't a strong point of the series (fairly one-dimensional as a rule), so Taim was sort of the exception imo Ishamael had the advantage of being bat-shit insane, though, in addition to be second in power only to Rand. The rest of the male Forsaken were all protected from the Taint, but barred from the True Power of the Dark One. Padan Fain was pretty great, I thought. And Valda, in his moments. I was also totally blindsided by Sheriam, not male of course, but still. Yeah being crazy is what made him interesting, whereas Moridin was... not all that interesting as a character, outside of his role. I actually wish Padan Fain had had a larger role. And I also didn't see Sheriam coming, that was a good one. I also suspected something was up with Verin, but not what it turned out to be, so that was good too. Verin also one of my favorites.

Other than 'Moiraine sent me', I didn't really give her a second thought, so if you were suspicious then I'm impressed. Given the ability of Aes Sedai to bend the truth without breaking it, Verin being able to say something that seemed untrue ranked way down on my list of things to ponder while reading.

Which in turn made me suspicious about why he was going out of his way to tell us that the characters were suspicious of her. But I just figured it was some separate Aes Sedai scheme, like Moraine and Siuan's (or Elaida's, say), rather than what turned out to be her big reveal at the end of the series. And I imagine that was what RJ was going for, so well done I suppose.

I just watched the trailer and came here hoping to see your opinion I'm going to watch the season because I pay for Prime anyway, but it's got that cheesy fantasy look to it that I can never pinpoint the source of. Still, I'm not completely horrified yet It certainly does. But to be entirely honest, the books quite often have a little bit of a cheesy feel as well, so it kinda fits.
There are only two things I really disliked in the trailer: 1. The fact that the Aes Sedai in the show seem to be entirely color coded instead of just wearing color fringed shawls. It seems a bit much and when there are multiple Ajas together it looks like they are about to play a real live version of Trivia Pursuit or something.
2. The white Tower looks very unimpressive. At first I thought this might not be Tar Valon at all but maybe Caemlyn and the royal palace there. It can barely be called a tower at all IMO.
Apart from that, I thought it looked pretty decent.
I actually like the color coding of the Aes Sedai...and it's understandable why they're doing it given many millions more who watch will have no knowledge of the books. There's one shot in the tower with all the sitters segregated by color that I really like...and is quite telling. Anyway I loved the trailer (especially the design of the halfman) and bottom line for me is they tell a good story. I'm in no way expecting it to follow the books verbatim...I already know the first season is going to incorporate elements of New Spring and parts of The Great Hunt. That's a lot of material for 8 episodes...so needless to say a lot of cutting and rewriting is going to happen. I just hope the Trollocs end up looking terrifying and not goofy...that's going to require a lot of good design and CGI.

I got into The Sword of Truth because when I worked at CHapters, we couldn't keep it on the shelves. I was surprised how wildly popular it was....Then I saw the series on Youtube and really liked it. So I decided to buy the books. I could barely bring myself to finish the first book...It was so boring! And I just didn't like Terry Goodkind's writing style. I had already purchased all 11 books at the time of release....But for years he kept promising, book after book that "this will be the last one"....Then he'd up and write another: 'Nope, I lied. But I promise you-- THIS will be the last one...Forever." And on and on it went for several more years.....and I think, five more books. And then Goodkind finally got away from writing SoT for about 18 months....But now it looks like he's back at it again.
He just can't write anything else. But since I was so turned-off by the first book, I couldn't brig myself to read any more of the series even if I'd skipped over books. So they sat in my basement for over a decade. Till finally earlier this summer, I collected them all in a big cardboard box (along with movies I hated and didn't want, like THOR Ragnorok on BD) and put them all on the boulevard "FREE TO GOOD HOME....Please take them!" And they were gone within that day.
Good riddance.
The one author I have read since 2009 and read almost exclusively (99.98% of the time) is Brent Weeks. I have read his Night Angel Trilogy at least 5x and cry every time. I am currently reading the final installment of "The Lightbringer" called "The Burning White", but it is nearly 1000 pages.
I have heard of Robert Jordan and his "Wheel of Time" series, a classic and a trademark of the Fantasy genre, I have heard. I have known of it since it was first published in 1990...but it's so sprawling, I think I would struggle with it.
I am intrigued by the mention of this new series. I don't know anything about the books themselves, so I couldn't compare them....But I would be intersted in this series.

This is from last year but it just came up in my yt suggestions: Cool video in general but also there an interesting little tidbit at the end, in which Brandon says that he read and gave some comments on the tv show script to the showrunners. That actually makes me feel more optimistic about the show already.

I don't know anything about the books themselves, so I couldn't compare them....But I would be intersted in this series. yeah, Terry Goodkind sucks. I remembered enjoying the first few Sword of Truth books as a preteen, and so tried to read it again as an adult and... woof. Its just not any good. WoT, otoh, is awesome. And the first few books are shorter and more tight, narratively (they don't suffer from the sort of excessive proliferation of characters and sub-plots that bugs down some of the later ones), so I'd say just set yourself to read the first one, without making a commitment to read the whole series or not. See how Eye of the World and Great Hunt work for you, and if you like them, try the next one (and if you like that one, the next one, and so on). But its one of those series that I feel like any fantasy fan owes it to themselves to at least try, its just so good, and influential/foundational for the genre. And now's as good time a time as any, what with the show and everything.

My enthusiasm took a dive around 1:07. Ok, not really, but if you're adapting a book or book series, you could at least get the pronunciation of a main characters name right. Back in the days before Youtube - yes, the internet had videos before Youtube - Robert Jordan gave a series of interviews around the release of New Spring, a prequel novel to the main books, and in one, he gave examples of commonly mispronounced names. It's Lan Man- Drah-Gore-inh. Not Man-Drag-Or-In Amazon is reported.

I remember him saying something like, "Mazrim Taim is not tame " when correcting that mispronunciation Yeah, you can forgive someone who's new to the series getting it wrong. But after reading a few pages of the guy, it is clear there is nothing tame about him whatsoever. And Robert Jordan took these books way too seriously to engage in wordplay like that.

It's Lan Man- Drah-Gore-inh. Not Man-Drag-Or-In Amazon is reported. To be honest, I am perfectly used to Man-Drag-Or-In from the audio books, so not a big deal for me.
That said, hmmmm, I am not super excited about the clip. Somehow, it doesn't fit with my imagination from the books at all (unlike e.g. the LotR movies, which captures my imagination perfectly in a lot of ways). Almost none of the characters we see here really fit that well with what I imagined. This especially goes for Lan. His face just doesn't fit IMO. Just not rugged and hard-lined enough. I'd have gone with a more Viggo Mortensen type guy.
Also, I think everything looks way too clean in the clip. If we were in the white tower, that would be one thing but in the country side of Emmond's Field? All their clothes look like they are freshly laundered and even Lan's boots (while wet) don't have any mud on them. IMO, LotR or Got made things look kinda real because they often looked worn or a little dirty. I am definitely missing that, at least in this scene. I mean, I get that the Al'Vere family is supposed to run a clean inn but still, it's medival country folk and people who just traveled through rainy weather on horseback, they are way too clean.
And where is Moiraine's kesiera? And why is she immediately advertising that she is Aes Sedai? Isn't she there kind of in secret? Her and Lan are making quite a spectacle of their entrance there. I get that you need to introduce these characters in a tv show but I feel this goes very much against who they are and what they do in the books.
So, well, yea, I am not hyped by this. But it's too early to judge. I'll probably get used to the look eventually.

Everything looks like it's filmed on set. Filming on a set in and of itself isn't bad, looking like it's filmed on a set instead of at location, that, is bad. The impression I get is that the Inn was built yesterday.
My current hope/prediction is that we'll get a rough inexperienced first season but because of how invested the companies are in this, we'll still get a second season. That second season is where there's a significant chance to see the show grow into some potential. But it's complete guesswork on my part. Just a hunch and a hope.

Amazon spent all their money on the Lord of the Rings TV show. WoT had to make do with what Jeff found behind his sofa. Different streamer, but first season of the Witcher also had that similar 'this isn't a real place' look to a lot of its sets, in my opinion.

Different streamer, but first season of the Witcher also had that similar 'this isn't a real place' look to a lot of its sets, in my opinion. A little bit but in the Witcher, I felt it was (or at least could have been) more of a stilistic choice. The Witcher books have a lot of reference to well established fairy and folk tales. Very often, especially when magic is involved, I don't think it's supposed to feel like a real place. And at least in the cases where they were supposed to get into the dirty and grimy side of things, they did (like in that first village in episode 1).
WoT (at least to me) was always going into a more LotR direction in the sense that it was supposed to feel like a real place, a real world. So here, the very polished look feels more inappropriate to me. And again, I actually think it would fit in, say, Tar Valon but not a country inn.
But then, now that I think about it, maybe they are going a bit of a shire route here as well. Maybe they want to make the case that Emmond's Field and the Two Rivers is a very "decent" place, so everything is very well kept and clean, so that when they have to leave, they can contrast this with the rest of the world. Maybe Berlon will have a bit of a darker, more chaotic vibe, like Bree did in Fellowship? We'll really have to wait and see.

www.gq.com/story/inside-amazons-wheel-of-time?utm_source=pocket-newtabWhitecloaks are looking good! Beware of minor spoilers on the first episode right in the beginning of the article. Not sure why they'd burn down Emmond's Field at the end of Ep1. Either they are really departing from the books or it's some sort of dream (I am seriously hoping it's the latter).

Not sure why they'd burn down Emmond's Field at the end of Ep1. Either they are really departing from the books or it's some sort of dream (I am seriously hoping it's the latter). Didn’t Rand dream exactly that? I could’ve sworn one of the ta’veren dreamed about the burning of Edmonds Field… On the Whitecloaks, I pity the fool cast as Galad. Putting this in a spoiler in case someone interested in the series hasn’t read the books; If it’s at the end of ep 1, it could also be the destruction wrought by the Trolloc attack. I doubt they went peacefully door to door looking for the Dragon Reborn.

New trailer. Looking pretty good IMO.
There is also a very interesting (maybe slightly spoilery) breakdown by one of the showrunners over at IGN.
All in all it's pretty good stuf I think. Really looking forward to Novermber 19th.

They are really dropping the videos now. Gotta say, what they all say about their characters makes me think they all have a very good grasp of them, which is encouraging.

Friday the 19th can't come soon or fast enough! Both my parents and I are excited for Wheel of Time to start....
I am vaguely familiar with Robert Jordan's sprawling Fantasy narrative. I know that is very highly regarded since its first publication in the early 1990s, though I have never read any of the books.
I cant judge on how the series compares to the books or how true this series will hold to the source material, but just from what I have seen of the trailers it looks to be very well done with an attention to detail and a solid production value.

And just for fun, lest we forget; however this thing turns out...it could've been so, so much worse.

And just for fun, lest we forget; however this thing turns out...it could've been so, so much worse. Ah, this is the thing they only made so the company wouldn't loose the rights to adapt the book or something, right?
Interesting, I hadn't seen this before, nly read about it. Thanks for sharing the link. Tbh,I imagined it even worse than it actually is.
I'm curious, if they'll do the prologue int he new series at all. It is a tricky scene to open up with, I'll grant that.
