Once those start getting approved (and assuming your project hasn't been canned or your staff hasn't been moved to a bigger projectile) I find it very sad that DA 4 doesn't get approved. They should have rebooted Anthem and not DA4. now we will wait forever, instead of getting it 2019/20.

DA4 is getting mighty close to Duke Nukem 2.0 territory, if it isn't there yet. First Bioware fucks around for years with Anthem, and then they blueball fans for 3 years regarding DA4 content. At this point I'd rather Weekes just writers another TME style novel, or for fucks sake a text based CYOA. I don't want to believe that they've spent 3 years with their thumbs up their asses, but the marketer in me suspects that if they had anything to show at EA Play they wouldn't preemptively disclose that DA4 won't be the focus.

That's what Bethesda did with Fallout 4. They announced the game a few months before it was released. Apparently that's the new, fashionable way to market things. Elder Scrolls fans go PFFFFFFFFFFFFT

But Bioware doing sweet fuck all with the IP for 6+ years is branding suicide. You're basically asking people to stop caring at this point.

Apparently that's the new, fashionable way to market things. Elder Scrolls fans go PFFFFFFFFFFFFT The only reason that was announced, when even Starfield is closer to release than TES6, is because they had not started developing anything about TES6, they showed TESO stuff, which is good, but not TES6, they showed another port of Skyrim to ... what was it? The fridge version or Alexa? And then there was the TES: Blades, the mobile game, which was absolutely horrible and, because Blizzard got booed the previous year about doing something similar with Diablo, they knew better than not to announce it. But DA4 was such a crazy reveal. Like, Anthem wasn't even out, nobody had even played it yet, so no verdict was out, nobody expected Bioware to show anything and if there were something, it would have been Anthem, not to mention, it was at the VGAs, not even at an EA event. There was seriously no need, at the time, to make that teaser for DA4, which wasn't even green lit by upper management, as per the Schreier article. It was a thing that Bioware did, going rogue, basically Mark and Casey and whoever could keep it secret from the Eye of Sauron, while working with Dorito Pope. Why? I don't know. Some people say that, with that announcement, should EA choose to shut Edmonton down, they'd have to also take the negative press of canceling DA4, "the sequel to the 2014 GOTY". Which is extra bad PR in addition to everything that EA had been going through, at the time.
Have I told you guys how happy I am that Patrick Solderlund is no longer working at EA? I'm super happy, in case I haven't told you.

I don't think they expected it to be rated as low, since their internal reviews rated it at a 7/10, but they still would know, going by Andromeda, what that meant.

Meh, even before DAI, nearly everyone I met only heard of Dragon Age if I mentioned it. The only time I was around people who knew anything about it was when I worked in a bookstore. All my current IRL gamer friends are straight guys who like the pew-pew, and they've all played Mass Effect and I think only one of them has even tried Dragon Age and they didn't like it and didn't finish it. I think people on this forum have always over-estimated Dragon Age's impact on the general populace.

If Anthem hadn't even flopped yet, why would they be so desperate? I mean ... did you see the game? You'd have to be nuts, to not see where it was going. I agree, I don't know why they did that. I mean, it would have made more sense, if they knew how bad Anthem would go (and how couldn't they) to save that tease for after that was all the talk, to kind of throw that bone out - it doesn't make sense to do that before, or at least, that's my thought. So, bizarre idea on their part. Ahh well, thing is going to take as long as it takes. I was thinking about Anthem last night and thinking, yeah, if it hadn't been for that game, we'd probably be looking at DA4 by now, or already playing it. Now that we know it has come to nothing and they have no intension of resurrecting it, it was a waste.

I think if they showed anything DA or ME-related soon afterwards Anthem's release, people would have just accused them of moving on instead of trying to save Anthem, which they tried at the start with the whole Anthem Next thing. And ultimately I think that, if there's a lesson to learn from Cyberpunk 2077, it's that marketing department and development team can travel at two completely different speeds (with the first usually going too fast for the second). To be brutally honest, I think Anthem should've never been produced by BW - the lore\worldbuilding aspect, sure, that could've been made by BW, but the actual game should've been left to other EA studios with more experience in that genre. And to be even more brutally honest, abandoning Anthem was the better choice for DA4's development in my opinion.

Which is why I was referring to crying. PoE 2 left off with a big sequel hook but the game didn't sell as well as expected so now we get Avowed which is more ARPG than CRPG
If there is Eder in the trailer, I didn't see it.

Yep, not to mention the mess that they are in with the teaser for the next Mass Effect games where people are already making definitive claims on elements of the game. Going by what the people who worked on Anthem said they wanted to get away from Mass Effect and Dragon Age so even if they didn't work on Anthem I bet it would have been something experimental that people wouldn't have liked because it wouldn't have been the game they were hoping it to be.
