I wanted to point this out for all those people who say that this is the first time a major AAA game based in WW2 had a female playable character on the cover art:
Yeah she's French Resistance and later an OSS agent which gives a perfect reason for including missions in North Africa.
Also she's based on a real person:

Also DICE's directors helped fan the storm with their comments.

All the more reason why this whole dust-up online is so ridiculous. Yes....if it wasn't a disabled British woman in the British Army and was instead a female Maquis who still had her limbs. Still an irrelevant aspect of this entire outrage. Play Verdun or Invasion 1944 for that not Battlefield or Call of Duty at this point.

The presence of women is not the problem of the Battlefield V trailer. Jeez.
The problem is that the trailer is a chaotic mess that has no WW2 vibes. After the devs repeatedly claimed that players would be immersed in WW2 like never before, a trailer that doesn't look and feel like WW2 at all is just a giant hype-killer. It looks like the frigging Saint's Row IV of Battlefield.

It seems the second gamers criticize this stuff it gets labeled as misogyny. If they want to make the franchise more goofy and less realistic, then explain that is your approach to the fanbase. That said, I'm assuming SP will receive its own trailer and will strive for a more authentic vibe.

The sexist part is folks using that as an excuse to bash women on the cover, for example. Two different things. That point we can all agree on is bullshit behavior by people.

Play Verdun or Invasion 1944 for that not Battlefield or Call of Duty at this point. Uh yeah it is, judging by the negative responses plus frequent citation of the English disabled woman as a front line fighter in the British Army in 1944. Plus DICE likes to cite Battlefield for it's authenticity which yes requires some suspension of disbelief, but that's mostly limited to weapons or gameplay elements.
And as shown with CoD: HALO edition, negative fan backlash does cost sales.
I could easily fix this problem and still maintain internal consistency quite easily, assuming this game has a Soviet Campaign (PLEASE!!!) and assuming it has a mission during the battle of Kursk (PLEASE!!!!!!!), here's how I would do it:
Have the female playable MC be inspired by a a real life Amazon:
(Guards Captain Aleksandra Grigoryvena Samusenko who killed THREE Tiger Is at the Battle of Kursk)
Have the environment be the Battle of Prokhorovka (in the Battle of Kursk)which at one point had hundreds of Soviet and German tanks ramming each other and crews of disabled tanks fighting hand to hand with other tankers and infantry:
This is a painting (rather biased one at that) but you can see how insane this battle was, it would help with the complaints that the trailer was too chaotic.
Oh and give her an eye patch if you want to shove a disability in there, it wouldn't be that inconceivable nor would it necessarily stop an Officer from serving as a tanker especially if they are a war hero.

You can’t tell by the outrage of a woman being in Battlefield on the internet. Yeah, that reaction was completely overblown, but that's the interwebs. And no one should have been overly surprised after the ridiculous (mis)representation BF1 was released with: black dudes on both sides of the conflict, but not a single French soldier to be seen in France. I wonder what's next - maybe female black nazis vs Americans in Poland during BFV's "Fall of Europe"?

Yeah, I think the lack of cheese-eating, surrender monkeys (Still love you guys ) in their own COUNTRY during the Great War was a common critique among war buffs reviewing this game.
As for Afro-Germans in the Imperial German Army during the battle of Verdun (and WW1 in general), well...they did exist and in integrated units oddly enough:

You don't seem to understand though. Battlefield has never been a historically accurate game series since 1942. Everything you said above regarding 'fixing' it has no bearing on the game or enjoyment of it via mechanics. It's the cosmetics you object to because they 'don't fit.' Demanding it to be one now, and being angry about the overt use of what is their marketing of player choice of cosmetics (so they can sell the combined arms mode and let's face it, offer microtransactions) is kind of silly. Especially since the claims of accuracy are going to be upon the burden of the War Stories I suspect, although if Battlefield 1 is any indication that's super fictionized so I doubt it. What I did notice is that a lot of the cosmetics were period accurate from the 1940s and late-war tech, along with taking elements of historical documentation and twisting it to how they see fit for the sake of multiplayer. That is expected and nd you know they did their research since this is the first time I've heard a company say they will showcase Norway and Rotterdam. We can use historical anecdotes all day to 'fix' a problem that doesn't exist. It's why I said play Verdun or Invasion 1944, there its the harrowing slog you expect it to be, played straight right down to the guns and ammo. I'm not looking for historical accuracy in a series that always took liberties in it, especially a series that has gone bonkers before with stuff like Bad Company and Heroes.

Guns and gear can only be acquired with in game money. It remains to be seen if it's going to be true.

The interesting bit is that, in the interview AJ did to one of the devs, he said you can actually buy all cosmetic looks using in game money also. The only difference is that when it comes to cosmetics, you can 100% buy them with IRL money. This means that after buying the game, you can essentially earn 100% of the content cosmetic or otherwise just by playing. Assuming this is true, it's pretty awesome imo.

You don't seem to understand though. I'd argue that's you. There's a difference between a franchise having a modicum of grounding and realism and jumping the shark. It jumped the shark.

So you ever play Battlefield Bad Company then? Talk about jumping a Shark, they cleared a great white when that came out a decade ago. Your outrage is misplaced if you care this much about a non-factor to the game. Never mind the fact that you are factually incorrect about it always having a "modicum of grounding and realism." Or do I need to remind folks of Battlefield Heroes too?

There's a point where suspension of disbelief gets stretched too far and tears with people going WTF?
Battlefield is not like Metal Gear where you can have SEAL Team Six fighting a Bisexual Romanian Vampire and people will be going that makes sense in the context of the Universe.
Battlefield has built itself over its authenticity as well as devotion to realism and when that authenticity plus realism gets casually thrown away and the DICE developers piss off their fans even more; you get a score of 276,000 likes vs. 318,000 dislikes on your trailer.

Do you not understand that the Bad Company series in addition to being a spin off was a homage to war action comedy films like Kelly's Heroes or Stripes (at least the first one, second one got a little too serious)? The first was a happy go lucky game that didn't take itself too seriously nor was it some kind of honor to vets nor devoted to authenticity or realism. Hell, we were expecting to see Truckasaurus Rex in the game.
Battlefield V's trailer tells us it will be played straight-faced and that's where everything falls apart.
