Complete nonsense, even men who lost their arms wouldn't be allowed to serve on the frontlines and would be discharged. Insurgents/Partisans might allow amputees to fight on the frontlines but that's a VERY big stretch and this woman is obviously suppose to be in the British Army.
Also if there was "deep seated misogynistic bullshit" why weren't the BF1 trailers that featured women downvoted to hell?

No idea. Although, the trailer you linked (which was also the one I found in a quick search) only featured a woman voiceover. Unless there was something really subtle that I missed - or another trailer showing a woman in action - it isn't clear at all that a female character is involved in the action. I haven't played BF since 1942 came out, all that time ago so don't know if there were actually women fighting in this DLC. I assume so, but don't know. Ignoring that obvious female grunt when the scout stabs that Austro-Hungarian soldier?
Also you ignore the BF1 base trailer which has the playable Female Bedouin fighter thereby establishing that players can play as female characters:
As for soldiers jumping from the second story homes and not turning to soup from crashing planes, yeah that's been there since BF1942 and every other combined arms WW2 FPS game ever.
The problem would have been fixed/less pronounced if the woman was a French Maquis resistance fighter that still had her limbs or a British SOE operative that still had her limbs.
Other than that, other problems are the stupid katana on the back of the British soldier (a looted French cavalry sword or better yet a Scottish broadsword would have made more sense especially given history: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Churchill ) and the fact there are Japanese soldiers in Japanese uniforms shooting Japanese firearms in Europe.
Overall, the trailer sucked but those are the most aggravating parts.

The only thought I have in the trailer matter is check out her prosthetic arm, it -looks- historically accurate for the time, the style/model etc. I don't really care about anything else, but feel that it's awesome that it at least looks like it's from the right time period and to me that's enough. Sorry, had to voice the thought somewhere and my gaming group would ostracize me as they're on the hate rage at the moment over it, and I'm as confused about that as everything else lol. You people haven't probably seen how much (semi)disabled people are weak and can't do much help in any physical work or battle... maybe they can just as meat shield! Either it's historically accurate and it's a useless arm, or it's futuristic sci-fi and not historically accurate, thus a useful robotic/cyborg hand. Choose one!
What and who are these "you people" you are referring to? I only speak for myself, and my own thoughts and I'm obviously, as stated by my post, not so upset about a couple of historically inaccurate things so long as it still fits the theme of the game, like the arm they could have picked a more modern style, they could have made it her right arm too, but no. They have her in the trailer as a right-hand dominant using the left prosthetic arm to balance the rifle, and it's a stylised to more fit the time period. She does not need full use of a non-dominant hand, and she may even have experience living with it so wouldn't be as weak as you claim, I've seen disabled with prosthetics able to do quite a bit after time getting used to doing things differently. Not everything of course, but a whole lot more then it feels you are implying.
Would they be on front lines of a war like that? nah, of course not but the entire trailer showed just a ragtag bunch of people anyway so it wasn't out of place in-game from the short bits we saw. Though the trailer was super chaotic and oddly filmed imo... I never look for 100% accuracy in a video game, that's not the entire point of a big/popular game *shrugs* but I was impressed with the model and choices made when designing it is all. They didn't need to do that detail, but they did.
I bet the range of different characters in the trailer is mainly for cosmetics sales/unlocking or something. Nothing to get so worked up about honestly.

My problem with the "historical accuracy" argument is when your core gameplay isn't even historically accurate, yet you complain about gender in a fucking video game? Here's a tip: DON'T PLAY AS A WOMEN. What a novel concept. A game where you can choose spawn points, drop health and ammo crates, be different classes, different armies... yet people are complaining about gender? Give me a break. Here's how EA should handle this: okay you want historical accuracy? When you die after an MP session you can never play the game again. Ya dead, ya dead. The game uninstalls and you can never play the game again.

There is obviously a difference between "inaccuracies" that are made to provide fun game mechanics, and arbitrary changes to the look and feel of a setting that have nothing to do with game mechanics at all.

If it splits kids in one direction, then fine, so long as I get to play the normal game as per usual. |

Not a single video by LevelCap, he's blacklisted alright. They gave sponsored videos to really small channels (which is nice) and a big FU to some people who has been supporting their games since BF BC2. Reminds me of Creative Assembly.

Properly cut and edited, nothing too outlandish, the soldier near the end getting cut in half by a prop unlike the first trailer, Norwegian female resistance fighters, no Imperial Japanese soldiers in Europe, the female grunts having limbs (ehh I can take the German side having women but the British side, I'll put a pin in it for now), and clearly defined sides.
Now that's a much, much better trailer. Not perfect, but wayyyy better.

I wonder if we are going to have ship battles like the first game. You mean 1942? I never played that one. Ship battle could be sweet, but complicated to implement. It wasn't mentioned at all (in the spon. videos I mean, the trailer itself didn't show much), so maybe not though. |
