Hey everyone, I'm genuinely curious if you think this small but meaningful change would have helped the game in expectations and standards. I thought the game was good and would have given it a 7/10 but a lot of my dislikes involved expecting a game worthy of the trilogy. Do you all think this would have helped by changing the title to something akin of Rogue One with star wars, as well as marketing it differently? Or would you still have felt the same way? I want to get some other's opinions on this as well. Cheers!

We used to see this argument about DA2. Supposedly, if it had been called "Dragon Age: Rise to Power" or some such it would have gone over better.
I dunno. I'm usually willing to give the benefit of the doubt to any theory which has "gamers are idiots" as a premise, but the mechanism here seems highly speculative.

The game would still suck, so no - it wouldn’t make a difference. It’s like how Civilization:Call to Power was trashed... because it sucks - not just in comparison to the other Civ games, but on its own.

For me personally it wouldn't have changed anything. I thought the game was mediocre and shifting the words in the title around wouldn't have changed that.
Even if they had dropped the name Mass Effect from it entirely it would have still been compared to the trilogy.

Mass Effect shouldn't have been anywhere in the title or the promotional media. Call it "Andromeda: New Beginnings" or something similar. Shared universes aren't something new. MEA needed its own identity - but then, would people have purchased it?
"Rise to Power" was actually the title of one of the DA2 trailers btw.

Yeah I have seen a lot of people say that about DA 2 Surprisingly, I only played the game once a long time ago, but it seems like everyone also felt like that game should have been a side story or spin off

Yeah those are both good points, a shared universe would have alleviated some expectations right out of the gate, but then people might not have been as quick to pre-order or purchase it. I guess the only way to know would have been it if was marketed differently and etc.

Wouldn't have changed a thing. I bought it because of the Bioware brand, not the Mass Effect one. And it failed to convince me on the Bioware level. Story, companions, lead character. All felt rather bland and empty. Not bad, but on the level of any given action game for which I wouldn't have even considered paying full price.

No rename would change what happened. What they needed was at least two months more to release the game complete. This would've helped a little.

well yesh some people are still a bit harsh to ME:A. But on topic, OP ME:A was an average game nothing would have helped peoples ridiculous expectations. The only fix for ME:A I could have seen was an extra 6 months of development time.

What would have helped is if Montreal had just stuck with supporting the other studios and ME:A was given to Edmonton to build when they had the time. I'm thinking that would have made a bigger difference then "lets give the thing a different title"

BioWare themselves were the ones trying to play up comaprisons to the original trilogy within the game itself... so

"If you liked [x] in ME1/2/3, you'll love what we did with it in Andromeda!" and that sort of stuff. Even though Bioware didn't directly compare features (that I remember anyway, correct me if I'm wrong), they set themselves up for those comparisons with the language used in interviews and tweets. Combined with planting the idea that those features would be improved on, intentionally or no, and the criticisms become less surprising.

...nothing would have helped peoples ridiculous expectations. The only fix for ME:A I could have seen was an extra 6 months of development time. And what ridiculous expectations were those? A coherent story, companions I didn't want to put in an airlock, a viable protagonist etc, etc? It failed as a game and failed catastrophically as a continuation of the Mass Effect franchise. The only way this would have been well received is if it had been a first effort by a new studio, which I suppose it was considering the devs' experience. They had a much loved trilogy to use as a road map and apparently only took inspiration from the Citadel dlc.
